Herbal Essences has officially managed to address every single hair issue I can possibly imagine having, and even some I can't. Its latest creation is the Long Term Relationship collection, and it falls into the latter category for me. I've had a lot of shampoos in my life, but a line directed solely at long hair has never crossed my path.
The line includes the basics: a shampoo, conditioner, and split-end preventing leave-in treatment. Each product is scented (rather heavily) with raspberry, which is great if you dig the sweet fruity smell. The products also use silk fiber to strengthen and protect your hair.
The shampoo lathers so richly that it takes a while to get it fully rinsed out. The conditioner is even richer (and bright pink!), and gives my hair that slick, swingy, silky feeling while rinsing. It also takes quite a while to rinse out, so I am not sure if these products are actually helping or just heavily coating my hair. Afterwards, the leave-in seemed like a bit much, so I skipped it. But my hair smelled great and was extremely soft and shiny, so I will definitely rotate at least the shampoo and conditioner into my routine.

Aussie also does a line aimed at long hair, but I'm not sure if it's available in the US of A. I'll definitely check out the Herbal Essences stuff, though - the fruit smell sounds kind of nice.
1I was always told that Herba Essence was one of the worst shampoos for your hair.
bailaoragaditana, I love Aussie. I've never tried the long hair stuff (since I don't have long hair), so I can't really say much for it.
2I've never really like the Herbal Essences line. I like fragrant hair care products, but these are a little overwhelming for me. :-\
3Sounds pretty fab!
4I liked the smell of this, it's not really fruity to me. It smells like an ambery fruity floral. I've been using it for some weeks now, and my hair is thick so I don't know how it will work for thinner or medium hair. Good stuff for the price..
5I bet this smells really great. I'm trying to stay away from drugstore shampoos because the products they use to make it aren't always high quality products, a lot of it is wax which is a great and cheap filler. Still before I knew this I loved Herbal Essences especially the breaks over line. They smell so good and my hair feels soft right after I used it.
6Herbal Essences "Color Me Happy" line smells soooo good and works pretty well. I have very long hair, so I might have to try this one out, too.
7I'm with JaimeLeah526...I used to love Herbal Essences before I started to avoid all the sulfates and not-so-great ingredients in most drugstore shampoos.
I always thought their shampoos smelled soooo good!
8I use this and love it
9a stylist once told me that drug store/ grocery store shampoo was horrible on your hair, even if it says it's a brand name product. i bought some paul mitchell stuff at a salon and on the back it reads: "guarenteed only when sold by a professional hairstylist, otherwise it may be old, counterfeit, or tampered with" i honestly did notice a difference in my hair when i started using salon products. they were much gentler and I didn't feel so fried/ dried out... though it would be cool to just use shampoo and have your hair grow ten times faster lol
10Hm--I'm going to have to try this.
I've never had a problem with drugstore shampoos and conditioners. Actually, it's salon brands that typically don't work as well for me. Good for my wallet that I have such thrifty hair
11My stylist always says: the worst brands for your hair are herbal essences and pantene. Both coat your hair with crapola and don't make it healthy, they just crap it up...just sayin'...
12I just bought this stuff last week. I like it. I even like the conditioner and I'm incredibly picky about conditioner. Plus, I love the smell.
13I use Herbal Essences quite frequently because I love the scents, people always ask me what I use and why my hair is so shiny... so I'm not sure I'll buy any hairdressers stories of how it's bad for hair because I have pretty freakin healthy hair. I also heard a funny rumor about 10 years ago before HE had any of the new better scented stuff, that there was bat crap in the shampoo, haha. My only con about the products is the conditioner, it does take awhile to rinse out, if you don't rinse it out well enough your hair will feel kinda slimey
14i use the conditioner... smells wonderful. i havent noticed it being too heavy or anything.
15Sounds wonderful. I might have to go pick up some...
16great. i have horrible split ends and i think i make them worse by breaking them off when im bored in class, which is a lot!
17Agreed, Aussie Luscious Long is the best! Frizz Ease Serum on to dry rather than wet hair is also good for my long, over-dyed hair! Shame this particular Herbal Essences one isn't available in the UK.
18Hmmm haven't tried this one, though I am intrigued every time I see the commercial.
19I agree that Pantene is HORRID for hair, it coats my hair so bad that I have to use a clarifying shampoo for a full week to get all the sticky crap out.
NOTE to other ladies: The new Head and Shoulders does this as well! Worst I have EVER used! I bought the Smooth and Sleek one. Good lord. I could barely blow dry my hair, it was like someone had put a body lotion all through my scalp. Holy ICK. This came about after a few days of regular use.
I figure now head and shoulders is trying to over compensate, since their original is known to be drying and harsh. They went top far in the other direction, and put so much wax and s*it in there that its gross.
My boyfriend loves Herbal Essences (I don't get it, since super fragrant shampoos make me sneeze my head off)... we're both growing out our hair for Locks of Love, so he got a bottle of this to try and he seems to like it enough. Of course, his hair is gorgeous anyway, he just washes it and lets it air dry, no heat, no chemicals... so it'd have to be really crappy shampoo to make it look bad.
I like smelling the scent in his hair, but I'm partial to fruity
scents... I just can't do it on my own head. Having scent by my face all the time messes me up.
20I've been using Garnier's Long and Strong shampoos, which do essentially the same thing. I love it! I get so many compliments on my hair now.
21I love how in my shower right now are only Pantene and Herbal Essences products.. and everyone's saying they're the worst!
22Now I'll admit, I don't find HE all that great, but I'm so in love with the scent that I keep going back to it.
About a year ago Pantene started making my hair REALLY sticky at the roots.. it felt like I slathered on some nasty hair product and never washed it out. I couldn't figure out why it was doing that, but the minute I used a different shampoo the residue was gone.
So Pantene was to blame. Recently tho, I switched back to it and it's fine.. and I find that it's the best quality as far as drug store brands are concerned.
As for salon brands.. I've used just about everything out there, and I'm not that impressed. And I always feel like hairdressers say that drug store brands are the worst, just so that they can get me to buy the overpriced products they have sitting on their shelves. They always act so horrified when I tell them what I use... I just see it as a sales technique.
If I find a salon brand that really has a noticeable effect on my hair I have no problem spending the extra money, it's totally worth it to have great looking hair as far I'm concerned.
But until I do I'm sticking to my usual products.
You're totally right, star54. Complete sales technique they use. You can see right through it
23I just started using these 3 products. I LOVE them! My hair is so much softer! I love it!
24I am in LOVE with the HE for long hair! It conditions just enough without weighing my hair down. I love the fruity smell, but it isn't overpowering. My hair is quite long and it's wavy, this shampoo keeps it shiny, and soft, and not weighed down. Every time I use Pantene it gives me horrible dandruff, I will never put that stuff in my hair again.
25My good friend is also my hairdresser. She's the one that told me that HE and Pantene are the worst and I have never ever bought products from her or her salon (and she knows I won't). She also told me that Suave is pure crap too, but I kinda already knew that.
26so then which drugstore brands ARE ok?
