Since I know you wouldn't dare bask in the sun and all of its harmful rays, vote below to let me know your personal self-tanning preference. It looks like Paris Hilton is a big fan of the fake bake. Nowadays there are all sorts of options to obtain a healthy sun-kissed (and hopefully not too orange) glow. I love a little color, but I'm always self conscious of spotting after a spray tan session — what about you?

I stick with being incredibly pale.
I use a bit of tanning creme to give me some colour...and MAYBE I might do a tanning bed once a month...but this year I made a promise to look after my skin!
I'm naturally tan.
I'm naturally pale!
I'm naturally pale, but I tan a little outside when it warms up with SPF, of course and then add a little self-tanner to even it out because I streak without any real tan because of my ivory skin.
I'm pale and proud of it. My Nordic skin was not meant to be scorched by the sun.
jergens has a really good tanning lotion that isn't harmful but still gives you colour
Get a little sun so I wont look dead and no more.
if you need to be tan, go with an artificial one- SKIN CANCER is a serious thing and it can happen to you. I spent my teenage years out in the sun and now I have a huge ugly scar on my neck from a mole I had to have removed. It's not worth it. Fake tans and yearly derm appointments (from a derm to be)
I'm exceptionally pale, and I like it that way. No need for a tan here, thanks!
I usually have a New York tan - pale and proud of it.
I love it when I have a tan, it makes me look healthier.
I do it naturally, using a high SPF. I don't stay out in the sun long and make very very sure not to burn.
I'm really pale but do like a little color in the summer. I used to lay out and go to tanning beds but after having stage 2 Melanoma I stick to the self tanning lotions/sprays that look more natural.
if i'm gonna get skin cancer, i'm gonna get it from having fun in the sun, not in a tanning bed.
disclaimer: i use sunscreen, i don't sit out and sunbathe all day, i just love outdoor activities and i tan really easily.
I used to go to tanning beds but I've made a commitment not to this year!
Dang it! I read the "I do not tan" option wrong, so I chose other. Oops.
I used to tan in high school, but I haven't since prior to graduation in 2005. I have incredibly white skin when I don't tan, but, when I was tanning, either by the sun or in a bed, I would not burn. I looked like I was a different race though. It was interesting.
I've embraced my porcelain skin as of late.
I embrace my alabaster skin tone.
I don't... I will get some color eventually throughout the summer. I am doing the beds right now but ONLY so I don't burn on my trip. Once my 200mins are up, I will never look back.
I burn too easily. So I'll stick to the pale skin
I am never going to go to a tanning salon or lay out in the sun again (at the beach I use 30- 50 spf) I dont fake bake because I dont want to promote an unhealthy aesthetic. You don't have to be tan to be beautiful or to look good in clothes.
I like my pale skin and don't need to a tan to look "healthy". It wouldn't be healthy to tan my skin in the sun or a tanning bed and I rather not look like leather later in life. I also have to say I hate fake tanners. Tans looks the nicest when it's the person's actual colouring. But I do agree that if someone must be tan, fake is best as long as it's well applied and you avoid looking orange.
I'm olive-y/tan naturally, and even when I do avoid the sun (as much as humanly possible, that is, without having to wear long sleeves and pants 24/7 in the summertime) and apply a crapload of sunscreen, I still get dark. Oh well...
none. I would prefer not to get skin cancer!
I'm so glad to see that 46% so far, have answered "do not tan at all." Embrace your color. Save your skin from wrinkles. Tan does not equal healthy.
I feel like i'm up on a podium saying these things.
I stay pale. I've had horrible fake bake results and I know sunbathing isn't healthy; although I swim alot in the summer and tend to get a little tan/glow (I wear spf 77.)
Id prefer to not look 10 years older than I am. Tanning is so tacky. People who say they only tan a little. Theres no such thing..hello cancer.
oops i picked the wrong one.. i didnt see the "not" in i choose not to tan naturally or artifically.. ohwell. i like tanning.
I tan from being outdoors... any day off/couple of hours I have out of my office are spent running/rock climbing/swimming/diving... i don't sunbathe, but I'm not about to dress uncomfortably either.
I'm naturally tan so... I do nothing.
I'm naturally tan as well, but I wish I could be super pale. Tan skin always makes me think of vapid, bleached blonde Pamela Anderson types. No thanks.
good old-fashioned sunlight, which is actually goo for you as long as you don't overdo it and pick early morning or later afternoon. Can't stand chemicals on my skin, yuck.
I'm pale and ok with it. I get a little more color in the summer from being outside (even with regular spf use). I hate the way sunless tanners smell (all of them have that sickly sweet chemical scent) so I don't bother.
I have a natural caramel skin tone, so luckily I don't need to tan and if I wasn't I hope that I would choose to be pale instead of running the risk of getting skin cancer or aging faster from using a tanning bed.
Well I have a natural tan. I try not to stay out too long in the sun. Plus orange skin looks awful on everyone
Pale is the new tan! Skin cancer and premature aging are two things that I'm not interested in at all, so I apply SPF 30 daily, wear a big brimmed hat at all times outdoors, and stay in during the hours of 11 and 3. But that's why I'm mistaken for being at least 10 years younger than I am, and I'm only 32!
My derm told me that people don't come in a lighter shade than me. I really didn't think I was that fair! I mix some Philosophy tinted lotion with a moisturizer often. It's a stain though not a self-tan.
I don't want skin cancer :/
Im not sure why it is but I just feel ten times prettier with a little color. I have dark features (brunette with dark eyes) and even just a little bronzer goes a long way. I prefer to use Loreal Sublime towelettes. They work really well and are the best Ive found on the market right now. In the winter I only use them once a week for a little oomph. I dont use beds and in the summer I use 30 SPF but still get a nice tan.
Everyone should read the part of the Wiki article on UV rays (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet) on "Human health-related effects of UV radiation."
For years I didn't wear sunscreen because it always gave me an awful rash. It turns out I'm allergic to octinoxate. Now, I am trying to remember to wear sunscreen every day and I am much paler than I used to be, but I refuse to walk around with a sun-brella like some other Asian girls.
My boyfriend's mom recently introduced me to this site, Skin Deep (http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/) and they have a HUGE database of comprehensive reviews of sunscreens. I think their reviews are probably a little over-the-top and I'd take them with a grain of salt, (because while yes, I'm sure in large quantities aloe vera and glycerin can be toxic... I don't think you need to worry about it so much in applying your sunscreen) but with so many different sunscreens out there and no FDA guidelines for UVA protection, it's a great start.
I think all skin colors are beautiful. Well, not Paris Hilton's. But the great thing about my extremely pale skin is that I look equally well/healthy in the winter time as I do during the summer months. In Junior High I tried so hard to tan and now I cringe to think of the damage I might have caused. Luckily I've always found sunbathing SO boring, so I never did do it as much as others. Now I try to stay out of the sun unless it is a social activity, or athletic ones. I'm having a hard time getting my boyfriend to wear sunscreen(consistently) though. They don't care about wrinkles, and don't worry about skin cancer!
I use cosmeticsdatbase.com too!!! It is so great! I use Arcona's tinted moisturizer with spf, and it is wonderful.
I can't tan no matter what I do so I choose not to. Self tanners don't really work on me either. I embrace my paleness, at least until I find something that works for me.
i don't go anywhere without at least spf 30.
i have embraced my fair skin
i dun do any tanning at all.
I don't have the time or enough desire to be tan to sunbathe. When I'm in the mood I do outdoor activities with minimal clothing.
tanning bed.
If I'm out and I get tan, I get tan, but I don't actually seek tanning.
No tanning for me! I like my fair skin, thankyouverymuch.
