When you think of awards ceremonies, you think of decadent, extravagant dresses. Lately even Hollywood A-listers are showing up in cocktail frocks. Last night on the Grammys red carpet legs were an accessory but how do you feel about this? Do you think that length is out and legs are in?

Its the Grammys its suppose to be looser and fun. A ball gown would look ridiculous
1I have seen cocktail dresses that are more stunning and elegant than ball gowns.

all depends on the dress and accessories.
2Some of the short dresses this year were okay. I really liked Scarlett's-- very classy with just a bit of the very trendy/gold metallic detail.
However, Vanessa Minnillo, Fergie, Hilary Duff, and Petra Nemcova look like they're going to a club, not an awards show. Their dresses are cute, but not classy enough for the Grammy's, even if they are the more fun/laid back awards show!
3It depends on the awards show. A short, sparkly cocktail dress is fine for the Grammys. For the Oscars, maybe not so much.
4Short, non-trashy dresses are fine.

This is the Grammys not the Golden Globes...as long as u don't looka-a-lika h0e!!!
6Yeah - the Grammys aren't exactly formal. I always expect to see a little bit of rock n' roll, and for me that excludes long glam gowns.

9I agree, for the Grammys cocktail dresses are not at all an issue but if this was a different awards show my opinion would be different.

12It really does depend on the event, and whether the dress is appropriately formal. Rachel McAdams just looked wrong at the Globes (SAGs?), but these girls all look great.

15i especially love scarlett, she can pull off anything. but what is up with duff? she looks like she was on drugs when she got that dress, and on drugs in the picture!

18I think if you can wear a nice cocktail dress it can be an elegant look. conversely, floor-length ball gowns can look clownish if done poorly.
19Alyssa's was the best. Vanessa's and Petra's were okay.
20If they read the actual invite from the Recording Academy, it states that this is a black tie event. Cute hip cocktail dresses aren't really black tie.
