I possess way too many beauty products to count, so in an attempt to organize everything, about six months ago, I took a trip to Home Depot and bought a bunch of clear plastic containers. I now have eight of them vertically stacked in two columns in my bathroom labeled by category and about ten more full of hair and nail care products in my closet. I swear they’ve changed my life.
I know how a handful of celebrities stay organized, but I want to know more about how you keep track of your cosmetics. Do you store everything in drawers sorted into color or type, or do not have any special kind of system at all?
I also bought some of those containers for my belts and shoes and have found them to be really helpful (FYI, I organize these by season). If fashion is more of your passion than beauty, you’ll drool over FabSugar’s new closet — it's awesome!

I'm gonna start organizing my stuff this weekend. I have so much make-up/belts/accessories everywhere! This post came at a great time for me. Thanks Bella!
1I worked as a mu artist and for a fashion mag, so I tend to collect a lot! My system is similar to yours.
I have a vanity (my great grandmother's old one) and skin care goes in the drawers. On top, I have a makeup mirror, frequently used items out on the vanity. My most often used brushes are in a container. I also have a plastic three drawer thingy where a lot goes (liners on top, shadows next, mascaras, blushes and eyelash comb, tweezers, etc next, then more brushes.
At the back of the vanity I have more plastic containers, sewing notions kits, actually. Those are loaded with stuff I don't use as often - weird color or cream shadows, more blush, bronzers, etc.
2Oh and lip stick!
I bought these metal boxes from IKEA
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/46686200
I've got four of em. One is for brown/neutral lip colors, then reds, then pinks. The fourth is for the ones I use the most.
3Bella I am so impressed with this system!!!! It really impresses the crazy organized girl in me! I want it now!!
4I have five different little decorative trunks (with vintage pinup girls collaged on them for cuteness) that hold different things. One for foundations and powders, one for blushes and bronzer, one for eyeshadow and one for lip stuff. The fifth one is brushes only (keeps them cleaner and prevents bacteria from transferring everywheres.
5I have this big three drawer plastic thing (I know, incredibly descriptive). I try to keep it organized, but that usually doesn't work. I have skin care and body stuff on the top bin. Makeup and nail polish in the middle. Then I have my hair dryer, flat iron, curling iron that kind of thing in the bottom. Despite this, things tend to move around anyways. I have a full drawer in my bathroom that I've just started shoving stuff in when I want to clean up, so I have a variety of products in there. Oh well, I'll resort it out again, eventually
6I have the fishing tackle type box and I try to keep that organized. Other products, like skin care, are organized by how often I use them, their height, etc.
7I have a multi drawer case that I organize by the type of cosmetic, eye shadows together, pigments, foundation/moisturizer/concealer and such.
I also have a separate cosmetic bag that has my simple every day face items so I can go right for them.
8Dont own enough to have an organizational system and dont plan to own more than the basics. Good skin can look great with make up or w/o.
9My hubby and I are moving next weekend! This will be a perfect idea for me to get organized in the new house! Thanks Bella!
10I love this system! I should really try to implement it at home ... I used to have a Caboodle (haha - early 90s anyone?!?!) and that was useful, but I definitely think drawers would be a bit more aesthetically pleasing, not to mention more organized.
11I use a multi-livel make-up kit but I am starting to get TOO much make-up for it!
12That idea up above is GREAT! I may have to steal it...
i have a multi-level kit, but i pulled out all of the levels and leave them spread out around my mirror. the box (where the "shelves" used to sit), i use to hold my hair dryer and irons now.
i just hate having all of my makeup away where i can't see it. i forget to use all of it.
13Craftsman toolbox. Best decision ever. I watched the ads and there was a special where you got the top chest free if you bought the bottom cart thing. It's awesome! There's not a lot of wasted space either since the drawers are so shallow.
I'm lucky that I have room for it. Here's an annotated picture from when I first got it:

I have a train case that's difficult to close.
15I need to start getting more organized, but as of right now, i don't think i own enough beauty products to resort to this type of system! Hopefully with time i will...great idea though! I do have lots of belts and accessories and try to keep them as organized as possible...
16Everything is stuffed into my cabinet! I literally have at least two makeup container spills (no product, thank god) a week.
17train case!
18I also got my makeup organizer at Home Depot! Here it is: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeI...
19I use the bigger drawers for palettes, blushes, foundations, etc. And the smaller ones are good for things like individual eyeshadows and lipglosses.
At school, I have a train case; at home, I've got my vanity (with... uhm... 9 drawers) utterly packed with beauty products: there's a drawer each for eyes, face/cheeks, lips, nails, hair, perfumes, lotions, skincare, and one sort of "miscellaneous" drawer...
I've thought about the tackle box strategy - I think I first read about it in a Bobbi Brown book a few years ago - but I have WAY too much makeup for that to be a plausible solution. I'd never be able to lift it!
Indygirl's Craftsman toolbox idea looks absolutely brilliant, though... I wonder how my dad would feel if I got rid of all his screwdrivers and wrenches and other useless items and replaced them with makeup?? Hmm....
20my highly coveted makeup stays in either my makeup bag or the top (smallish) 6 drawers of my dresser. I have a whole bookcase in my livingroom/office area that's filled with brand new goodies i've been sent and am willing to purge.
all my extra (mostly old) makeup junk goes in a couple huge ugly giant plastic tubs with lids. things used to be organized by type, but now i think it's just a huge mess. i put them under my bed so my makeup stays cool.
21I have like five or six products total at any given time, so a little makeup bag holds them all with room to spare.
Heck, I could probably stuff them all in my pockets if I needed to!
22i've been meaning to organise my products...
23I have a make-up bag and a bin that I keep extra make up in .But I really need a container like that.
24I have my everyday makeup in one bag and my assorted makeup in another small makeup bag. I had been hoarding a large box of makeup, but after I read an article about the shelf life of products, I quickly threw most of it out.
25I have a little basket on top of my dresser with eyeshawdows/blushes/mascara, then a little pouch in my top drawer with lip stuff, and then another bag with eyeliners/brushes in it.
26I use a multi-level makeup kit and it doesn't just look like a fishing tackle box - it WAS a fishing tackle box!
Now it's my make-up box
27I have my make up separate according to day and night , light and dark make up. Pretty much in my to-go makeup bag I have the essential plus the other makeup I wear almost everyday. It's usually the lighter colors. Then in this other bag I keep my smoky eyes, heavy liners, red lipstick and so on, for when I really go out of my way to look glamorous. As for my skin products, I only have a few, Retin- A, Aveno Anti-Blemish moisturizer (Great product for young combination skins!), make up removers and other products. As for these, I keep them in a white box on top of my bathroom counter. I hope my system helps someone!!
28My system is almost exactly like Bella's
29I have a couple of large train cases that I use to store my cosmetics. I also have a vanity in my bedroom...I store some products in the drawer.
I have a makeup case that I keep in my bathroom too, that one contains all my daily essentials.
30Love my train case!
31Nothing unique for me, I just have everything by category in cabinets and drawers in my bathroom. I also had a floor to ceiling utility cabinet built in one corner with 4 doors and 5 shelves. I like everything out of site because of kids and visitors who are always in my bathroom!
32I have two hard-sided banana leaf baskets. They both have one large compartment and then three little side compartments. One basket contains everything skin (bronzer, base, concealer, rice papers, blush, etc.), and the other contains everything Eye and Lip related. I should take a pic- they are cute.
Skin care-wise, I have drawer organizer with a handle in the middle. My drawers stay organized and the handle is perfect for when I want to pop out the tray and have facials in the tub.
33i have this little multiple compartment mary kay bag thingy that folds up when you going out...its pretty cool but very unorganized..despite all the compartments and whatnot.
34I don't have a lot of makeup so I don't need an organization system. I'm pretty simple when it comes to makeup. Just lip gloss and mascara kinda girl (love love love Estee Lauder pure lip gloss and Almay mascara). Skin care products are Pro-activ, Oil of Olay and Estee Lauder. Fills up one shelf on my bathroom vanity.
35i wear a lot of bare essentuals, but they put the names on the bottm. so silly for a loose powder product. so i've made labels for the top of each.
36I use baskets on the bathroom counters. I think its looks pretty and makes products accesible.
37I use a drawer organizer from Office Depot (but not in a drawer); it lets me see everything at once and I never have to dig!
38All I have is one foundation, one mascara, and one lip gloss, so I pretty much just line them up nicely on a shelf in my bathroom. I also have a couple of perfumes on my nightstand.
39I have a whole room that is my 'dressing' room, or boudoir as I call it! So I've got lots of space and I love it! I have an antique armoire that I keep all my makeup in, and inside the armoire it's pretty well organized with plastic bins that hold makeup, lotion, etc., etc. But it gets pretty dirty in there pretty fast, but I just shut the door so I don't have to look at it.
But the funny thing is, I tend to forget about half of the cool stuff I have and I just use a few products, day after day. Kind of a waste!
40Just wondering Bella, do those bins have drawers that pull out? Or do you have to take each box out individually to get to it? Cause that would seem kind of like a pain.
41I have 2 of almost everything- 1 for my purse, 1 for my makeup bag.
42My everyday stuff is in my little makeup bag, and the less used stuff in a little basket on my desk nest to my lotions & such.
43Oh... I made a photo essay on how I organize. I can't stand tons of bins... I need it more readily accessible and more easily hidden!
44Great idea Bella. I'm going to try something like that this weekend. Although god love me I don't have enough to fill a case, I'm going to get there eventually!
45I have two Sephora Midnight Train Cases. Love them!
46I keep each "look" in a seperate make-up bag and then all the make-up bags are arranged on a shelf in my linen closet.
47I have a MAC train case. I figured that since all MAC products I may as well have the case to match. I also use a separate make-up bag everyday for my compact, lipstick, and whatever else I might need to make a quick touch up.
I have a serious make-up addiction.
48Jam everything into a draw.......for now.
49I have a case with 3 layers..it is like a toolbox.. it is big, but already overflowing.
