It's no secret that inexpensive products often work as well as (or even better than) pricey ones. But using a low-priced sunscreen may actually be better for your skin.
To understand why, imagine that you're hungry, and you have two jars of jam in front of you. One's your regular old Smuckers variety that you picked up for $2.39. The other is a $12 organic jam made with raspberries, peaches, and champagne. If you're like me, you're likely to smear the Smuckers on your bread with abandon — since, after all, buying another jar isn't expensive — but you might try to make the fancy jam last longer, since it's more costly to replace.
The same psychology works for skin care products. If you buy a pricey sunblock, you may use less of the lotion in an attempt to get your money's worth. But because sunblock needs to be applied generously (and reapplied during the day), you may get less coverage than you need. By buying an inexpensive drugstore sunblock instead of a more expensive one, you're more likely to use enough of it — and therefore, you're also more likely to be adequately protected.

Oddly true.
I would never buy an expensive one anyways, I mean sunscreen is sunscreen no reason to get fancy about it.
1good point...and I think it's true too...!
2I bought Target's house brand sunscreen once (their Coppertone ripoff? I can't remember). After rubbing it on my stomach, I could taste it in my mouth. Never again.
3That's a very good point.
4That's true, but I wish cheap sunscreens had a certain ingredient that is actually the best protection against UVA rays.
5I buy the Neutrogena SPF 45 Dry Touch one...it's really nice, non-greasy and absorbs right away. And it's definitely not pricey!
6I get the Cetaphil sunscreen for my face and I love it - I use it daily and it's not greasy at all. Plus, it's a good deal. I use anouther stronger SPF when I am going to be out in the sun for longer, just because the Cetaphil is only SPF 15.
I'm really working on embracing the pale!
7I just use plain old Neutrogena. It works really well. Since I'm so fair I use SPF 45 or higher and I don't have any problems with it. I was outside all day yesterday and didn't get any freckles or redness.
8Last year we used Coppertone Oil Free and we loved it. It worked well, and wasn't greasy at all.
9Lubriderm spf 15.
10So true!! I received JLo's body cream one year for Christmas and I was so nervous to use all of it so quickly that I completely forgot about it!! Who knows if it's even good anymore!!
Now, if I got it...I use it! Plus, I'm too frugle! LoL!
11Does anyone have a suggestion for a sunscreen for the face that doesn't smell like sunscreen or isn't overly oily/greasy? I use Clinique's SPF 30 on my face, but I'd like to find one that's a little less expensive and I can find at Target.
12So true!! But if I don't like it, I end up not using it at all! I had the hardest time finding a non-sunblocky feeling everyday sunscreen until I started using Estee Lauder Daywear Plus. It sinks right in, so I use it every day. But because it's so expensive, I end up not using that much of it! Oh dilemma...
Clinique for Men M Lotion with SPF 21 is my second favorite. It's like Dramatically Different but with SPF, but I also feel the SPF-ness in that one too.
13Kim, the Neutrogena line is a good one. I use that every now and again. My favorite by far is Clarins UV Plus.
14That is so true, Bella! And with so many good drugstore brands, I don't know why you'd buy the expensive stuff.
15kimdangirl--neutrogena has one thats daily defense, and its SPF 30. I just switched over from Cetaphil (because it is only SPF 15). And you can get the neutrogena one tinted or not, but i really like it
16I smear my $45 sunscreen with abandon. I'm allergic to chemical sunscreens, and the physical ones with the sheerest finishes cost more. Since I have no choice but to buy the higher priced ones, I use them correctly and make sure I'm able to pay for them.
17do darker people need to use sunscreen
18I think it's worth the money to find a sunscreen that has a sheer texture and feels good on the face. For some it will be Coppertone, for others, Shiseido!
Does anyone have any tips on reapplying sunscreen to the face? I hate perfecting my makeup in the morning and then having to put something on over it in the early afternoon, but I'm starting to use a home peel and I really need to watch the sun exposure!
(And yes, I do wear a hat outdoors!)
19NEUTROGENA FTW!
20So I'm confused...I have a moisturizer with SPF 25 that I apply every morning...should I be applying a sunblock too??
21spliffster, darker people do need to use sunscreen..because sun exposure leads to wrinkles and sun spots, and no one wants those no matter what color you are.
22Well my favorite drug store cheapy treats are Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30. I use that on my face which is combination skin.
Second favorite is the new Palmers Coco Butter with SPF 15.
OG Palmers Cocoa Butter was my favorite, but now that it has the SPF I'm in love! The product has great texture and none of the tacky/sticky feeling I usually get whenever I use an spf product on my body.
23Good point. One of the best sunscreens I ever bought is the Shoppers Drugmart store brand baby sunscreen. It's like $3, really high SPF (i'm very pale), PABA-free, fragrance-free, and really gentle.
24i'm a fan of neutragena's. $9-10 i get it in spf55. i get one for my face, neck, hands & feet (where age shows fast) & a spray version of the same thing b/c i'm more likely to use it when it's fast.
25READ THIS GIRLS
btw, for those of you trying to prevent wrinkles, 25 and 30 WILL NOT CUT IT. there was a really great aricle about antiaging in allure recently. stick to 50 and up.
