This is big. Scientists believe they may have found a cure for acne. This hope comes from a study in which the drug SMT D002 reduced the flow of sebum in pores by 90 percent.
The drug was developed to treat a condition unrelated to acne, although its creators will not reveal it. (Nor will they disclose the active ingredients.) What's more is that as of yet, the drug has yet to produce any side effects. This is especially exciting considering that Accutane, the most similar drug on the market in terms of effectiveness, comes with some pretty serious potential side effects. It is important to note, however, that the trials so far have been small, so further testing is needed before any conclusive findings can be announced.
The drug is currently being made into a topical cream, but no word as to when it will be available. I think this sounds like an exciting development — even if it does sound a little too good to be true — so I'll keep you updated on anything else I hear.

This is awesome...of course it comes out when I am in my late 20s and not as a teen!
1If it works and without side effects, I must have some.
2Yeah, sign me up for this if it works!!
3Exciting news!
4This is awesome...of course it comes out when I am in my late 20s and not as a teen!
5i hope this works!!!! i would totally buy it!
6Why won't they disclose the ingredients or what they originally created this for?
7maybe because they don't want to give out details until they know if it works...? That would be so amazing if it did! I would definitely buy it. I have had acne for ten years now...
8I think they might be mum because they don't want to give out details, but methinks they also may want to create buzz around the product itself.
9man, I just read something about this AND they said what it was used for somewhere- argh!! I can't remember where it was, but I know they had more info.
10ok, I know I read something on a beauty blog regarding this, but I just found some research indicating that it may be Parkinson's research this company was doing:
In addition, seborrhoea is a non-motor symptom of Parkinson's disease that is estimated to affect a large proportion of patients.
What I read was that they were really researching about Parkinson's and happened to see this decrease in sebum.
11ok, my last post but this bugged me. From their website:
www.summitplc.com/pipe.htm
you see that the original trial was for Parkinson's research.
12Oh my God, I'm so excited! If this stuffs works without major side effects, then I'll finally be saved from this horrid skin!
13Man, I am IN!
14def keep us updated on this one!!
15I'm just waiting to find out what the side-effects are. They'll crop up; they always do.
16YAY! I don't have acne. But I when I break out, it's a b*tch!
17Omg please let this topical cream come out soon.
I've had acne continuously ranging from the odd spot to a face full of zits for almost half of my life.
It would be such a relief to me to take a break from all this.
18if it's safe i'll buy it
19ha. like gigill, i'm waiting for a major trial to bring out the list of side effects.
but really, this sounds so promising. if i could have a drastic improvement in my cystic acne WITHOUT antibiotics, it would be a miracle.
20i wonder -- would this affect the rate at which your skin ages? i assume it would have a similar effect as accutane, but i'm not exactly educated on how that affects your skin's rate of aging, either. i just hear less sebum, and assume drier skin.
thoughts from anyone (especially accutane users)?
21Where can I sign up to be in the trial for this one? Haha.
22(*cries*)
This would be flippin' AMAZING.
23Skeptical over here. I guess I'm just a pessimist.
24That would be amazing. I finally have the insurance to try accutane, and all the docs in my area refuse to prescribe it to women now...I wonder if that is even legal!!
I would definitely jump to try something new.
