I definitely don't like glitter in my polish under any circumstances... but I do like a slight amount of shimmer or iridescence. Not too much, but just enough to keep the color from being utterly flat. At the same time, the shimmer usually means it's not a high-gloss finish, which is good, as I find glossy nails a bigger distraction than glittery ones!

Well, I don't like glitter like in the picture. But, I actually prefer a shimmer to my polish. It's much more forgiving when you do a quick polish job. Matte colors seem to require a much more perfect job.

I like a little ... not a lot. Really hate the glittery ones.

Overall I prefer the look of a creme polish.

That said, I love the way that a polish with some shimmer doesn't show every single mistake or dent! Much easier for my rushed home manicures (think microglitter, not the super-chunks in the photo up top )!

I like both. I don't like the glitter picture in the top, that's just horrible, but I feel like creme polishes or shimmer polishes are much more forgiving, so depending on how much time I have I'll use whatever.

Shimmer and glitter are really two very different things. The picture on the left is more of a glitter polish than a shimmer polish. When I think shimmer I think a nice sheen not glitter.

Having glitter in my polish makes me feel like I'm in middle school again. I do like some shimmer in my polish though, like right now I'm obsessed with O.P.I.'s Cosmo-Not Tonight Honey, which is a shimmery peachy-nude.

For the holiday season last year I decided to have glitter polish used instead of pink for my pink and whites. Let's just say that almost 5 months later, there is still lingering residue from the glitter and I can't stand it. My poor nail guy has dremeled till he can't dremel anymore and I think the glitter has just embedded itself in my nail!!

it depends. red looks better in a cream texture without shimmer or glitter. the blacks and blues need some shimmer not to look so flat like chanel black satin or blue satin. so i like both equally. once i did a home manicure of gold glitter nail polish, i used like 4 different sizes of glitter polish so the end result was a very textured,blinged out gold shade, so i think in this case, glitter rocks.

I like shimmer polish, it seems to stand up better on my nails than the cremes. Glitter is for the holidays!

I can't stand shimmer in nail polish. It looks tacky and cheap on me but I've never tried it on my toes.

i think the picture you posted for "shimmer" is a bad example of what shimmer nail polish is. Matte is a flat color while shimmer has subtle sparkles in it. What you posted is big glitters.

My preference depends heavily on circumstances. Also, it depends which kind of glitter/shimmer it is. For instance, in the picture, I like neither of the polishes.

i think shimmer is different from glitter, as it appears in the picture. glitter screams a little too juvenile for me, but a well done shimmer can be elegant. glitter polishes are also difficult to remove. in general though, i like my polish to be a little shimmery and shiny.

I like a little shimmer it helps the polish adhere to your nails and is much more interesting.

I don't like glitter or matte. I like a glossy look. I use a matte color and then add a shiny topcoat that gives it a wet look.

i actually like the glossy transluscence of jelly-finish polishes best!

I don't mind some shimmer, but glitter is such a PITA to take off. I also agree that glitter looks a little on the juvenile side.

i totally agree with elephantheart, a matte nailpolish with clear on top looks the best.

Glitter nail polish can look cool sometimes. It usually comes off as tawdry.

Glitter or shimmer polish is so hard to get off your nails. I rub and rub and there is still glitter on them for a couple days.

Scratch that, GLITTER is tacky. Shimmer is fine. But I still prefer matte.

I like both; It depends on my mood or where I am going. Usually I wear a clear polish (or light pink) and use a top coat that has little pink shimmers that reflect light. It's more simple and makes it easy to go with outfits.

Although I do love to wear my Chanel Blue Satin polish with a top coat of shimmer; it looks fun.

I have a glitter top coat from OPI that I wear alone on my fingernails, it's not too much, just enough. Toes are always red, no glitter or shimmer.

Sometimes shimmer is okay... I like matte the best.... glitter is gross though and makes me feel 12 years old.
