Hot oil treatments are a fast and easy way to help restore elasticity, shine and moisture in dry, over-processed hair. They should instantly make your hair look and feel healthier, and they can be done anywhere from once to twice a week depending on the condition of your hair. I found this at-home hot oil treatment recipe from the Long Locks Hair Care Cookbook and have been eager to test it out.
Although I haven't tried this exact combo of ingredients yet, I have created a wonderful DIY treatment from a blend of jojoba oil, avocado, geranium oil and soybean oil. I loved the results, but found it to be fairly messy — and I didn't love the feeling of mashed-up avocado in my hair. That being said, feel free to add in fresh avocado, or a little jojoba oil if you desire. This recipe is simple, neat (you can bring it right into the shower with you) and it doesn't require a ton of ingredients. You'll need:

For three step-by-step directions, read more.
- STEP 1: Pour all of the ingredients into an empty measuring cup and mix well.
- STEP 2: Warm the contents in the microwave for about 20-25 seconds, making sure it doesn't get too hot. Then, evenly apply the mixture to damp hair (paying special attention to the ends), comb through with a wide-tooth comb and wrap hair in a hot towel for 20 minutes.
- STEP 3: When you're finished, shampoo hair, rinse well and skip using a conditioner.

2love DIY!!
3Oh. This is just what I need. Thanks for posting it. I will let you know how it works once I give it a go.
4hmmm calls for alot of different oils.........
5This is great, I already due this with olive oil and sometimes an avocado (too messy when it's used). Thanks!
6I will try it even though i have to buy all four kinds of oil...! Thanks!
7Where do you get these oils?
8i think this would work great, but alas, i have naturally, excessively oily hair. i don't think adding oil is the answer!
9Whole Foods would probably be a good place to look for the ingredients. The Eden food and Aura Cacia websites might have coupons too, the oils can get pricey for such little bottles.
10Thank You Bella!
11My hair tends to be dry so this is great!!
12The Indian Sandalwood tree has become endangered in the past couple years. That was the good stuff. Sandalwood oil is being sustainable produced in Australia, but its just not the same quality oil, and its expensive if it is real and pure. I don't know how old this recipe is, but its not eco-aware!
13The Best DIY Oil Treatment is Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. If it's in its solid state, you'll want to warm it up a bit first to melt. Work it into your hair (focusing on scalp and ends), wrap in towel and leave in for at least 45 minutes or overnight. Shampoo, rinse, shampoo again (It usually takes me at least three rinses, but I have long hair). I started doing this about a year ago and my hair has never looked healthier! It's not the quickest oil treatment though - so I only do this about once every other week.
14Thanks Bella!
And to ExpressionEleven too..
I am going to try these!
15Another great oil treatment for your hair is just plain olive oil warmed the same way. Also try organic virgin coconut oil. No warming is needed. Coconut oil is great for your skin and hair and its not too hard to wash out either. Coconut oil has COMPLETELY changed my life. I have awful dry skin and in the 2 weeks ive been using it Ive noticed such a difference. I recently put coconut oil in my hair and left it for 24 hrs washed it out and my hair is softer then ever!
16lol I guess I should have read the comments I totally am with ExpressionEleven but I do have to say the coconut oil in its solid state melts in your hands very very quickly.
17you can use coconut oil as a good oil treatment twice a month. it works fantastic.
18i want to try it
19Are there any oils that are ok for use on dogs for dry skin? I have heard of hot oil treatments at fancy dog groomers, but not sure what's in them and wondered if I could do it myself.
