For years and years, cosmetics companies have been trying to get men to buy into skin care. For a moment there, it seemed like the metrosexual might make it all work. Alas, the metrosexuals have dwindled in number. A new report reveals that British men have responded to grooming hopes with a big "no dice."
Marketing group Mintel has released survey results that reveal:
- The average British man spends less than $5 a year taking care of his skin.
- Thirty-five percent of British men feel that it's important to look young, but 55 percent of French and Spanish men do.
- The male skincare market is worth less than one tenth of the women's equivalent.
I'm not surprised by these findings, since most men I know have to be told that Irish Spring is not so great for their skin. Doubt I'm the only one wondering, "And they had to do a survey for this information?!" Please. Hand me a tweed jacket and I'll play Professor Bella, whose work on Obvious Male Behavior will be no doubt groundbreaking. Wink.

Yes...I do all the "taking care of" for my man!
1Plucking eyebrows, using face stuff, shaving his head hahaha.
Pff. Big surprise.
2I buy everything for my fiance, which really isn't much. He uses face wash and some moisturizer every once and a while and that's about it.
3My boyfriend is most def an exception. He uses an actual facial cleanser and even moisturizes.
4My hubby definitely fits into the $5 and under category. I'd be shocked if he spent that in a year for his skin.
5Eh. The bf uses the Nivea men's face products I bought him. He likes them a lot... so he'll probably buy them again.
6they do however pay more often for haircuts than women
7the funny thing is my husband doesn't buy his own products but uses my expensive face and undereye creams all the time!
8My husbands shaving gel cost $30 and he buys that twice a year
9I think my husband spends much more than that. Facial scrubs and cleansers, acne creams, special shaving creams...
10Yeah, not surprising! My husband spends next to nothing on his facial wash...and he has perfect skin. It makes me so mad! I usually am the one who brings him home some products...I buy him a Burt's Bees body cleanser and moisturizer for sensitive skin and he likes it. I think he'd use whatever I put in front of him. Haha.
11I introduced my boyfriend to body scrub. He's so happy now.
12Less than $5 a year on skin!!! I am rather mortified! What are they using? Mud?
13My boy/friend James uses 18p shower gel. No shampoo, no conditioner, nothing. It's ridiculous.
14My boyfriend is British so yeah... I got him some Clinique samples for men when I ordered something and he was like "meh." I have to force him to wear sunblock. What can you do...
15i literally have to put moisturizer on my fiance's face, because he would never do it on his own (i consider it a personal investment... ha). he also cuts his own hair and uses irish spring on his face 1x day, but likes it sometimes when i bring home products for him to use (he loves biore strips).
16my hubby used to use ivory soap on his face! i was finally able to convince him to try origins get down deep pore clay cleanser and he loved it. that was 4 years ago and so ivory on his face is history except that he uses it on his body! i am still working on convincing him to ditch that stuff ...
17My husband probably pays what I do. He likes to take care of himself.
18My man in a facial cleanser moisturizer kinda guy, not brows tho that's a bit much
19my fiance is more about a great hair cut every 2 weeks. he doesn't really use anything for his skin.
20my fiance is more about a great hair cut every 2 weeks. he doesn't really use anything for his skin.
21i MAKE my boyfriend use my creme de la mer. :]
