While visiting the L'Oreal boutique a few weeks ago, I picked up an Infallible lip color ($7.99) with pretty floral packaging (at far left). The plant design is lifted from a gift box made for the CFDA finalists. If you like the floral design, call 888-270-7743 to order one; if you just want to know about the lip color formula, which you can buy in any drugstore, read on.
Infallible is a long-wearing lip color that's a little shinier than your average lipstick, but not thick like a gloss. It's meant to last all day long thanks to its two-step application process. First, you apply color and wait for two minutes while it dries. After that, you slick on a sheer conditioning topcoat. Pretty simple. But does it really last for hours? To see pictures and find out, read more.
One of the frustrating things about the otherwise cool packaging is the colored tube. The hue is close to the actual color, but it's not exact; when I picked up Azalea, I assumed it would be an opaque rose. In reality, it's a moderately sheer, shimmery rose-gold cousin of Nars Orgasm gloss. That's OK, but a transparent tube would offer a better glimpse of what you're really getting.
So here's how the Infallible experience went down: I applied both the color and the topcoat yesterday morning before work. The color's texture is tacky, but the topcoat is moisturizing, and together they're not sticky. The color stayed through breakfast and three servings of Taco Thursday lunch, all without rubbing off on my drinking glass. After my fest of gluttony, I reapplied the topcoat, but didn't retouch the color. Here's the result:

The color faded, but not by much. I was pleased to discover that the formula doesn't dry my lips out, either — which doesn't often happen with long-wear color. All in all, it's a good option if you hate to reapply your lip color. Or if you just want lip color that lasts through a three-course taco fiesta.

Looks good. I've been on a gloss/lipstick kick lately, so I might pick this up.
But I want to hear more about the tacos!
1I love the mirrored packaging, but I'd been wondering about it's efficacy.
2hmm I prefer more natural stuff, even if it doesn't last all day.
3Wow, thanks for the review! I had been eyeing this at Target the other day, but wasn't sure about the claims. Now I will definately try it!
4BTW, you have great lips - love the shape!
5Wow that's really pretty!!!
6I always want to try this stuff, but I have this weird thing about lipcolor. I never like the colors! I'm on this impossible mission to find a perfect lip color. It's very sad
7Oooooh that's such a pretty color! You've convinced me to buy it Bella, through your modelling (and description) skills.
8ditto Renee3!
9I love the packaging. I've only ever tried a long wear lip color once and I hated it. It was a long time ago when Cover girl started their line of the two process long wear lip stuff. I hated it. It dried out my lips horribly.
Maybe I'll check this out. It's been a few years and there has probably been some advancement in these products since then. Plus, I really love the middle color.
10I love the packaging and it sounds like it may be something I'd like.
11Sounds good, when I allow myself to buy makeup again this and lash blast are on the list!
12good to know good to know...i like sheerer colors anyway. And i also agree that your lips are very enviable.
13Thanks for all of the nice comments! It's funny — I woke up this morning and realized that some of the color was STILL on my lips. I should have removed it with makeup remover last night, but when they say this stuff stays, they mean it.
14I've always thought about trying it. Glad to know it does work.
15I saw that at the drugstore a few weeks ago and I contemplated buying it, but instead went for the infallible lip gloss, which I am not impressed by. It feels really sticky and the color does not stay on long, especially not through meals.
16Nice packaging, but good to hear that it works well.
17Just went out and bought this at lunch - I got Pommegranate!
18JackieA, I also had the same experience with the Infallible Lip Gloss. I definately do NOT recommend it!
19I've used this and was not impressed. I found it to be very drying and uncomfortable and it actually made my lips look much thinner then they are.
20I am all over this, Bella. Berry-colored or not! But will it give me cupid-bow lips and a cute pout?
21I personally didn't care too much for this product...I used it for my wedding last summer, and while the color DID hold up okay, I thought the balm that goes on top was terrible. My lips felt dry all night.
I wouldn't buy it again.
22hmm i think i will try this!
23wow, you really went all out with the investigation - that's so cool, and it definitely makes me wants to try this - L'Oreal should totally hire you...
24Okay, I have tried this before, first it really does last all day long no matter what you drink, if you kiss, nothing! it stays put! but, the most difficult part was getting it off... and the fact that after a little while the shine wears off and your lips start to look just matte. But overall it's not that bad.
25I don't use L'Oreal products
26i have the pomegranate, and have used it rarely.
after a while, it completely flakes off, especially if you're a lip-chewer. at that point, you have the ring around the outside of your lips but closer to your teeth... nothing. and the worst part? what flakes off is like a magnet - it will stick to everything... your gums, your teeth, your fingers, your napkin. eeccchhhh.
it does stay on (unless you eat it off), but i found that my lips stuck to everything. it was especially annoying with glasses and cups! but the good news is that it didn't budge even during a makeout session.
i LOVE the gloss - it's so silky and smooth, and it smells so good! i have used it on its own without the colour.
and forget about getting it off. i've had to resort to face-scrubbing exfoliants on my MOUTH to remove this. even the eye makeup remover didn't budge it, and just left little rolled-up pieces of colour everywhere.
27In general long wear colors aren't usually the prettiest. They are usually pretty frosted looking and I hate the balms that go on top. I'd rather reapply my everyday lipgloss.
28Ummm I think I'll pass.
29i got given this as a free sample (full size) from loreal. the wear of it is pretty impressive for a low end brand, its the kind of long wear ud expect from a high end brand tbh.
BUT it makes ur lips feel soooo bitty and dry and abit numb to. :s if it wasnt for all that & more moisturizing then it would be something abit special by loreal.
