The Patch Test is something that you're likely to see on the back of products if you're someone who reads labels. Simply put, it's a fool-proof way to check and see if your skin will turn red, become itchy, or swell due to an ingredient in a beauty product.
Kiehl's is an advocate of the patch test and it's something I recommend to anyone with dry, highly-allergic, or sensitive skin. Apply a small amount of product (about the size of a dime) to your arm (preferably the underside of your forearm), cover it with a Band-Aid, and keep an eye on the area for 24 hours.
I know it seems basic, but it works. You know the old saying about an ounce of prevention, right? If you don't, read more.
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

I've never had a reaction so I've never done a patch test. I know that the student salon where I worked while in Cosmetology school everyone needed a hair color patch test before they could get their hair colored.
1I have sensitive skin, and I've tested products many times before using them all over, but I've never covered the area with a Band-aid. Didn't know I was supposed to, I'll have to remember that.
2what if you are allergic to the band-aid? LOL!
3I don't usually do the patch test either...but, the other day I was getting ready to do the aspirin mask for the first time...and I wasn't going to do the patch test. But, I ended up doing it anways and it turns out I had a reaction to the aspirin. While the aspirin mask was on my arm, it started to burn and when I took the mask off, my skin was extra pink in the area.
I'm soooooo glad I did the patch test before doing anything else!! I think, I'll be taking that extra precaution from now on.
4Kiehls corriander body lotion made me break out all over!! luckily i was able to return it to Nordstrom!
