Remember the model whose daughter wants a boob job? She's got company. The Daily Mail reports on Ashley Hughes, a pushy stage mom who's spent $30,000 on salon treatments and pole-dancing lessons for her 15-year-old daughter, Emma — and of course there's a boob job in the works. (Emma's already a 34F.)
The goal is for Emma to look like glamour model Jordan. "Now I hold down as many jobs as I can to ensure she'll have all the beauty treatments, tanning sessions, and cosmetic surgery she needs to achieve her dream," Ashley says.
This seems like a sensationalized publicity stunt, but even if that's the case, it's hardly ace parenting. So, I ask you: Why do you think these mothers are encouraging their daughters to focus so much on their looks? Is it just about appearance, or is there a bigger cultural force that drives this behavior? And why do you think some teenage girls' aspirations focus on plastic surgery?

wow, this is just sad...hope mommy has all the money this girl will need for therapy when she gets older!! good job, mom!
1I think it's awful. I wouldn't bring a daughter into this world to have her aspirations involve lots of cosmetic surgery, tanning and implants that will more than likely make her look cheap. And what mother actually encourages this for their daughter? And what world do we live in when that's what a glamour model is. That's not glamour....and didn't this Jordon person get her own implants removed? Still has the horrible fake tan though. It's sad to live in a world where girls aspire to be the exact opposite of elegant.
2
UGHHH. Makes me sick.
3Wow, how sad. This mother needs her head examined!
4
People like that are just insane.
5laughing myself into oblivion right now.........!
6This girl is going to end up a cheap pole dancer at best, I'm guessing. Make momma proud.
What kind of a mother is this.......
sick. someone call child services.
7Sounds like she only brought her daughter into this world to pimp her out. She'll probably be one of those parents that'll steal her own daughters money until she's 18 too. I bet she looks at all those expenses as investments toward big money. That's sad, I feel bad for the daughter. I jokingly told my mom yesterday that I wanted a boob/nose combo, and she told my i'm beautiful the way God made me. That's a real mom.
8I feel sick. What kind of world are we living in? Why would any (excuse for a) mother think this sort of behaviour is acceptable?
9Maybe mommy should use some of the money to get some beauty services of her own! shes a lil scary looking...
but seriously, this story is horrible. there are already enough bad influences to young girls today i.e. paris, lindsay...they don't need their mothers to further encourage them so negatively!
10Four words: Mother living through daughter.
11lol yes the mother is a bit frightening looking - she looks like the fratelli mother in the goonies lol
this is obviously horrible and disgusting. if her daughter is already a 34f, how much bigger do they plan to go? really past that point she is going to look like a side show freak not "glamorous"
12Haha ^ She DOES look like the mother in the Goonies!
13Well it's the UK so I'm not too surprised (my home country and all). Jordan is like a god over there, never mind that she drunk and partied so much during her first pregnancy that her son is paying the price. And people ask me why I don't want to bring my daughter up over there...
14Agreed Cutedimples. I think this is exactly the mom living through the daughter. She views her daughter as an extension of herself - the younger, prettier version. Sadly I think this happens quite often.
15Yikes!!!
16just seeing the photo
gives me the creeps..
poor girl...
OK, if laughing at the Fratelli comment is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
I'm endlessly fascinated by this sort of story. I always wonder what came first: Mama wanting to reclaim her youth, or the daughter wanting to emulate a kinda tawdry star... or something else entirely.
The other thing I always wonder is this: WHERE IS DAD?
17absolutely ridiculous!! Why would a young girl like her want to look like Jordan?! Her boobs are just TOO much!! I don't see how she can even function with them! And the girl is already an F?! Wow, this mother is just taking things to ludicrous measures!!
18I bet the mother was attractive as a teenager and has been trying to relive those days any way she can, even if it means doing this to her daughter.
They both look hard, inside and out.
19It's kind of a terrible, but inevitable, outgrowth of a culture that values fame for fame's sake, isn't it? (We wouldn't have things like Paris Hilton if that wasn't the case).
I also feel as though it's the 21st century manifestation of the kiddie pageant syndrome - not that that's over, just that with plastic surgery, it's a brave new world for moms desperate for the attention and accolades that they believe come with physical beauty.
In conclusion, ewwwwwwwwww.
20Chicaboo: "I bet the mother was attractive as a teenager and has been trying to relive those days any way she can.."
actually, I was thinking the opposite: that mom has always been unattractive (I think we can agree that "rode hard and put away wet" is an apt description for her now, in any case) and this is her attempt at living vicariously through her spawn.
I think you can make an argument for either point. What seems obvious is that this is not about the daughter.
21I want to rescue that girl! I used to do makeup and have women approach me all the time wanting me to apply dark smoky eyes to their 8 year old girls that were usually dressing very age inappropriate. I always told them I didn't feel comfortable doing that but I would love to show them the "next big thing." I always went to Urban Decay applied a very small amount of Midnight Cowboy or one of the other shades, topped it off with some glitter, put talika lipocils on their lashes and some sheer sparkly gloss. Then spritz them with Aquolina Pink Sugar to make them look and smell like a little girl. The daughters always loved it. I can't believe people are getting all that cosmetic surgery for their kids!!! Their bodies aren't even fully developed. It makes me SO SAD to know that she's getting all those tanning treatments. Agh! Her skin is going to look very much like her mom's a lot sooner than her mom thinks!!! If anything that girl needs to get a reduction, not implants, her poor back is probably killing her!!! Someone needs to put that mom in the nuthouse!!! I think if she's really all into spending money on beauty treatments, she should buy them for herself! SHE could use the work!!!! Young girls are fine and don't need it!!!!! AGGHHH!
22EXCELLENT question, Bella and exactly my thought when reading this: where is the FATHER in all of this??
23"I usually tan for ten minutes in the morning and the same after school. I'm not worried about the health warnings. I feel great having a tan. I try to remember to use sunscreen but I tan faster without."
Her mother added: "I'm not worried about this tanorexia nonsense, or skin cancer from sunbeds. It hasn't affected her health. It's making her confident and beautiful. All the treatments will give her the edge. They're going to help her be a star."
First, she's still pasty white. Second, she's going to look like an alligator purse 15 years from now. Third, I can't help but laugh at both of them. For spending so much on skin treatments, you'd never know it. She inherited her mom's Fratelli face.
24The father has a quote at the very end of the article. He's probably been completely cowed by the two pushy girls he lives with and just stands back.
25Wow!?!? That just leaves me speechless!
26LOL at "Fratelli face", Colormesticky...you're so right!
27this is just sick and wrong
28Colormesticky, thanks for directing me to the whole article - DUH! Yeah, that was a rather pathetic quote from the father! You have to feel sorry for this poor girl!
29Very sick. Poor girl
30She's living her life through her daughter. What a pathetic family :[
31This is disgusting.
32Bella, did you and Giggle fight over who would post this? Its so sad that its funny..almost. I think gross won out in the end....reminds me of one aspect of UK culture I would like to forget..celebration of utter rubbish people doing utter rubbish things.
33Aaand it gets worse...
Same UK newspaper, only this one is 11.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1032029/Mummys-little-Lolita-T...
34omg
35she shouldnt be allowed to call herself a mother
shes clinically sick
I think the mother of the 11 yr. old might be even worse.
36It mentions her fathers age (49, engineer, doesn't approve. At least that's how it reads) but not her moms. Probably not nearly as old as she looks. The whole mess is beyond disturbing.
37This is insanity using culture as its outlet.
38I will never cease to be amazed by the stupidity of some people
39how sad
40She wants breast implants...and she's a 34F?!?! I can just imagine how much pain her back will be in in 5 years. Mother and daughter need to run--not walk--to a psychiatry clinic.
I'm cringing at the thought of how leathery that child's skin is going to be in 10 years.
41And what kind of crazy doctor is actually doing these boob jobs on young girls!! Absolutely insane and very sad.
42Colormesticky, I couldn't of said it better myself.
43there is something wrong with this picture and I'm pretty sure DAD has been MIA for quite some time (just a hunch)
44I just see this as yet another ugly stage mother trying to live through her decent looking daughter. Who honestly, with a ton of surgery will never look like Jordan and that's the truth. She was actually pretty without the surgery.
45What the f*ck, I'm 18 and a NATURAL 34G, and I f*cking hate it. How the hell can you be 14, wanting to be a 34F!? Goddamn dumb broads.
46You have to wonder what kind of nut job doctor would perform this type of surgery on such a young girl.
47What is wrong with these people? That is so disgusting I don't even know what to say. What's sad is it'll just continue on and on. You know this girl will be having babies soon and will push the same thing on them
48Ugh, no matter what ideal of beauty women aspire to (or encourage their daughters to aspire to) as long as the message is looks=worth, then it's the same thing. So yeah, this woman is an example of the most extreme, literal version of that; getting a boob job will make money, but we get the same message whether it's from a chavtastic, tanorexic, trashy ideal of beauty, or the skinnier, prettier Halle Berry type of beauty.
I understand that what outrages so many people on here is the fact that it is a mother encouraging her daughter to live up to this "beauty," but any time a mother makes her daughter feel that her looks are what makes her a worthy person it is sad. And I think that is way more common than we'd like to admit.
Even on the sugar sites, especially pop, it is common for commenters to express their approval or disapproval of a woman based on the way she looks. "Oh I hate potatohead Rumer Willis, she is SO ugly, why would she even be allowed in movies," etc.
As a society, this NEEDS to stop. This woman, in her very simple-minded way, is responding to the cultural expectation that a woman's worth is in her looks.
49Mama's lookin' a little Mick Jag-gerish herself. If I'm holding down multiple jobs, it's so that I can pay for my children's education NOT for some aesthetic bull-crap that in the end, NOBODY GIVES TWO SCHITS ABOUT anyway! Big boobs don't = a big brain (obviously).
