Last year I talked to you about how to create the ever-popular sexy beach waves hairstyle, and this is a modification on that look. It's slightly more polished for a casual evening dinner or party that doesn't make you look like you've just come straight from the surf.
When I think of this hairstyle, Camila Alves, Jessica Simpson and of course Rachel Bilson come to mind. To find out how you can achieve scrunched summertime waves at home, read more.
- STEP 1: While hair is soaking wet, comb out the snarls with a wide-toothed comb. Part hair and apply just a little bit of de-frizzing serum like Frizz-Ease by John Frieda to the lengths and ends.
- STEP 2: Let it air dry a little bit and when it's damp (not wet!) generously mist it with either a homemade or store-bought sea salt spray and scrunch hair vigorously all over.
- STEP 3: As a finishing touch (something that Rachel Bilson hasn't done here) gently tease your hair at the crown to create more overall height and volume, otherwise your hair risks looking limp and straggly.
- STEP 4: To ensure shiny ends, apply some Renee Furturer Spray Gloss and then leave hair alone. Don't brush, comb or play with it or you'll only create separation and, heaven forbid, frizz!

I'm pretty lucky, when my hair air dries it pretty much looks like this. I almost always let my hair air dry. It's a pretty, simple look.
1my hair is a bit too curly for this, and I definitely need more product, but I'll see about trying it out
2my hair is a bit too straight and takes some finger curling/buns/braids for me to get this look....it's funny because it is super time consuming for me to get an effortless look...lol
3Hanako, my hair is the the same way. Something like this, cute as it is, would take me ages!
4I have naturally wavy hair but it also comes out one way on one side and a different way on the other side. I wish I could get my hair to be wavy the way Harley Newton's hair is. I love her hair. It would probably also be better if I grew my hair longer.
5Does this work with stick-straight hair? No, right?
6Naturally wavy here!
7I love the look but i don't think it would work on my hair since it's curly
8This won't work on me either. My hair air dries way too frizzy. It's sad, I have naturally wavy hair, but if I want it to look good, I need to blow it out and then curl the ends into loose waves. So much work!
9My hair is stick-straight too, Gigiopolis...I find that if I use some of John Frieda Beach Waves sea spray in it when it's damp and twist it into a bun for awhile, I'll have great, natural-looking waves when I take the bun out.
10I hear ya chiquita. My hair has become quite frisky in the past few years..too much straightening everyday. It is very hard to handle, so I have succumb to putting it into a ponytail most days.
11wOw!!
12I pretty much
wear this style
here in my office
cool i was trying to look up these steps the other day. way helpful.
13i've definitely been rocking this look for the current summer. fekkai's summer beach waves spray works wonders.
14SunSilk Waves of Envy Sea Mist works great and it's a $3 price tag compared to the Bb or Fekkai sea sprays.
15my hair dries like this haha
16Doesn't the sea salt kind of dry it out?
17Even though I usually got pretty straight hair, in order to get waves like this dry your hair and when it is damp put it up in a bun (very loosely though) blow dry hair until it is fully dry and then open it and voila you got waves! Add some hairspray to fix it and it'll stay.
18ahhh I remember carefree days of boogie boarding/swimming at the beach in Narragansett with all my high school comrades, getting stoned on the sand(sorry, it's howit happened) and then hittng up the pizza shop on the shore for a munchie attack lol and my hair always looked like this, only blonder and shorter.... was funt o get those tangles out in the morning though lol I remember going through massive amounts of conditioner for just scant of shoulder-length hair....
