This casual hairstyle (not to be mistaken for the classic loopy bun) has been seen on the likes of Kate Hudson, Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Garner this week alone. What was once regarded as a messy and unkempt updo is actually très chic nowadays. It's popular because of its practicality. It's a great way to get your hair off your face and neck for sports or just for a stroll during the hot Summer days.

It's easy to achieve, too. To find out how to create this California casual hairstyle, read more.
Simply pull all of your hair back in a high ponytail. Before you loop a snag-less elastic around your hair for the second or third time (depending on how thick your hair is), do not pull hair all of the way through — only pull it halfway through. This will create a loose loop. If your hair is layered, pieces of hair should fall, as will any wisps or short bangs — which is what makes this style so relaxed.

Lol. Britney's favorite hairstyle is now being featured on Bella? Nice.
1This hairstyle is Britney's worst enemy!
2LC can work anything though can't she.
This is my go to hair style when I don't feel like doing my hair
3Personally, I don't like that hairstyle. It's so unkempt, and it's a poor way to treat hair.
I love my hair. It's taken care of, and it shows -- healthy, thick, no split ends, etc. Also, it's nicely groomed. Again, my hair is loved.
4Wow apparently my friends and I were way ahead of the Hollywood trend in high school.
5I like this look on Kate Hudson. It's my go to look when all else fails, usually when I'm sitting my nephew. As long as you're fresh faced and are somewhat pulled together, I don't see a problem with it from time to time. Whenever I do it I usually spritz my hair from about halfway down to the end with Ojon Revitalizing Mist. I think it's cute and youthful if done right ala LC and Kate.
6its my gym hair do
7Yeah, I am about 20 years ahead of my time then!
8I remember everybody in my middle school used to do this hairstyle back in 8th grade, which was 12 years ago for me.
9My lazy hairstyle is trendy...nice.
10I love how a style that everyone did for years is now trendy b/c a celebrity does it.
11My 4 year old has this hairdo today for sprinkler day at pre-school!
12haha this is what i do when i dont feel like doing anything else!
13Doesn't everybody with semi-long hair do that at some point? I do it when I'm exercising or cleaning the house. I don't, however, wear it like that when I'm going out.
14I think a lot of girls and women do it when they don't feel like doing anything else, when they are sick and don't wanna bother, etc, etc. I have been doing it since I was in the 6th grade, and I am 21 and still do it. As a matter of fact, I am throwing my hair up this way today, since I don't feel like blow drying and straightening my hair.
What about the other casual looks everyone does, and looks nice? The casual cignon, which I do, and the low ponytail (which I LOVE on LC).
The thing about this style, and I know from experience is, if worn like this for too long, or too many days of the week/month/year, you can seriously damage your hair if you aren't careful.
15Is that what it's called? I do this when I don't feel like exerting extra effort to fix my hair. It's my hit and run m.o.
16Oh my god.
17In my all-girls high school, everyone did that to their hair. Most of the time, the bun was at the top of their heads, and a rat-tail would stick out the back.
Sometimes, for jokes, people would braid that little rat tail too.
Erlack!
ah, gotta love it! My non-hair style is finally in! course I do live in California... hmm.
18This was the thing to do in HS.. still do it occasionally when I dont feel like styling and am just hanging.
19Growing up, I always had a bob haircut, so when all of the girls in middle school did this hairstyle EVERY SINGLE DAY, I was left out.
Now that my hair is longer, I occasionally do it but I prefer to do other more interesting things with my hair on non-wash days.
20oh i have been doing this hairstyle for years. it's called I am having a bad hair day and I am not doing a darn thing with it!
21i dont like it,
22it reminds me of
Britney... and her
extensions.......
I didn't know this was a trend or a style. It's what I do before I hit the gym or while I'm cleaning the house, though.
Also, thought I'd mention that seasons of the year aren't capitalized ("Summer") unless they are a proper noun (someone named Summer) or they appear at the beginning of the sentence.
23This is a trend? Ha...this has been my lazy lounging-at-home hairstyle for years.
24i'm glad everyone else thinks the same thing I do! This hair-do is called Lazy! It's just a throw it up lazy afternoon kind of do. Nothing trendy about it.
25Back when I had more hair I wore my hair like this all the time. It was the go to hairstyle for any sport practice. I chopped all my hair off into a pixie cut last year and only recently can I put it in a little pony. I await the day I can do the "bunny-tail" again.
26I do this look when I'm to lazy to fix my hair or I'm in-between washings.
27Everytime I read "stuff" like this I feel 125 years old - there is nothing new about this hairstyle. I'm pretty certain pioneers did it also.
Thank you, brown_eyed_grrl this sort of stuff drives me crazy too, again I'm showing my old age.
28I have curly hair, and I like doing this and adding a multi-strand headband to it. I think it plays up the texture of my hair, while keeping it out of my face. The headband gives it a grecian feel.
29I wear this to gym - but only to the gym.
30When I do it people say I look like a hot mess but when they do it, it's the trend. God I hate hollywood.
31How the f*ck is this a trend? I'm all with wadewifey. I do this and I get called a lazy ass. Smack on Conrad and all of a sudden she's Jesus. There's definitely NOTHING trendy about this crap.
32I always wear my hair like this when I'm bumming around...
33I have my hair like this only at home and at the gym...
34I remember seeing this in "Seventeen" many years ago...I can't pull it off though. Maybe now my hair's a bit shorter I may be able to......
35This girl at my job does this everyday to work. I do it when i'm cleaning the house or working out. I never thought of it as a trendy style.
36Please shoot me if I'm to ever leave the house looking like such a slob!
37Sounds good to me. so easy. LC can work anything. I love her style
38I wear my hair like this all the time. It's like this right now!
39I wore my hair like this today. It was 110 degrees here and there was no way I was going to leave my hair down.
40To think I'm following a trend when I have my hair up as I wash my face,
. This is a go-to
casual look around the house however I would never wear it out, just too sloppy.
41in our country only mums do that style..........now even they are ditching that style...........and i have hair thats too short do that even at home so i just put it in a high.........really high ponytail..........
42If I wear my hair in a messy bun I always put a cute headband in to class it up a bit. I have long, naturally curly/wavy dark hair, and I almost always get compliments on my hair when it's up like that.
43It's much nicer when you actually BRUSH your hair before throwing it up.
44i do this when is hot... or when im sleeping!:S
45Um, how is this a trend? Or an actual style? I always thought it was more of a "get my hair out of my face" thing. I mean, I "style" my hair like this when I vaccuum...
46It looks cute on Kate.
47I do this when I'm having a bad hair day because my hair is a bit wavy/curly I can't seem to get the nice spiky effect that straight-haired girls (like LC) pull off. I'm jealous!
48I have been doing this for years, except I have curly hair, so I turn the bun over after my last twist of the tie to make the under hair stick up and out of the bun on the top of my head instead of being under the bun. I make it a little curly/spikey and go. It looks MUCH better than this sloppier style.
49This isn't something I'd wear out of the house really, plus my hair is too long and heavy and the loop always flops down anyway. I'd say that it looks cute on Kate but it looks casual on Jen and messy on Lauren.
