The color lavender is a pale shade of purple, however the Lavender plant has leaves, seeds, flowers and a rich scent which is often used in foods, medicines and dyes. Its name is derived from the Latin root, "lavare" (to wash) since the Romans used to add lavender to their baths.
Lavender has many uses. Not only is it part of Herbes de Provence and can be added to both sweet and savory cuisines (it's actually part of the mint family), but it can also be dried and made into sachets and potpourri.
In the beauty world, lavender oil is used frequently because of its calming, soothing and antiseptic qualities. It can be found in shampoos, soaps, bath and body products, fragrances and cosmetics. Do you have a favorite lavender scented product?

I LOVE:
Avalon Organics Lavender hand cream. So wonderful. The lavender is perfect. (http://www.avalonorganics.com/)
L'Occitaine Lavender Shea Butter. Superb!
I live in a dry climate and have several species of lavender growing in my yard. I dry it and use it as a potpourri. I also make lavender wands, which are beautiful and make lovely housewarming gifts.
There is a lavender farm in Walla Walla WA that I've visited. They make lavender lemonade. HEAVENLY!!!!!
1I use to use a part organic lavender shampoo and conditioner that I think is from Avalon Organics and wish I could still get it at Shoprite for the price they had it for awhile because it worked great for my hair and it's why I want to use more natural products for my hair. I also like lavender vanilla lotion and the smell of it can actually really help me fall asleep better when I have trouble with that. I want actual lavender oil for the oil cleansing method I sometimes use to clean my face.
2Lavender is one of my favorite scents, colours, and flowering plants!
For my shower, I use Dr. Bronner's All-in-One Lavender bar soap! I hate most lavender scented stuff, because they often do not really smell like lavender essential oil. I like that minty feeling real lavender gives.
Savon de Marseille lavender bar and liquid handsoaps are what I use in the bathrooms. They are very pretty and high quality.
Burt's Bees has a shea/lavender hand lotion that is pretty effective. I bought a sample size for my bag recently.
3Bath and Body Works makes a Lavender Chamomile Pillow Mist. It helps you you to sleep easier. I once heard a mother buy it for her daughter. They called it the "Sweet Dreams" spray. It was supposed to "keep the monsters away." AWWW! It really does work, at least in helping you fall asleep!!! I love it.
4I use organic lavender essential oil for everything from disinfecting my kitty's litter box to scenting laundry as it rinses.
Sometimes I use it in the sauna water as well, very nice!
As a product though, I rarely lavender stuff on myself. Mostly around the home.
5Lavender hand cream from L'Occitane is my favourite!! It has a very natural lavender scent and it is not greasy and is a treat for my hands... =)
6I love lavender! I like Lush's Angels on Bare Skin because it has lavender oil and bits of real lavender in it - balances the skin quite nicely. I also have a lavender/vanilla hand lotion - although right now I can't remember what brand it is.
7I use lavender oil drops in my baths
8I use Aveeno Stress Relief lotion with lavender, ylang-ylang, and chamomile. The smell is just so good and it's not strong like other lavender lotions. I also grow lavender in my garden because it really is my favorite flower/herb.
9Funnily enough, the only lavender-scented product in my house is my dishwashing soap!
A lot of people in my neighborhood grow lavender in their yards, so a walk down the street always smells delicious.
10I LOVE the scent of lavender! My best friend/sister has lavender essential oil and she uses it to fall asleep. I on the other hand have the essential oil in some of my eyeshadow creams from bloom cosmetics.
I also have lavendar brushes growing beside my house.
11Mmmm, I love lavender-scented products, especially in the bath or a pillow pist. The scent is so calming and relaxing.
Bath and Body Works used to make lavender and vanilla scented aromatherapy products, but I'm not sure if they still do...I got a few as a gift before and they smelled heavenly.
12Ha, I meant to say "pillow mist"...oops!
13"Bath and Body Works used to make lavender and vanilla scented aromatherapy products, but I'm not sure if they still do...I got a few as a gift before and they smelled heavenly."
I think they still do. I had the lotion.
14mmmm lavender - I have lavender oil reed diffusers in our bedroom, French lavender soap that my hubby uses more than me and I just love the color. It's pretty tasty too used like rosewater but I've only had it in restaurants.
15I have all the lavender vanilla products from Bath & Body Works. I'm a big fan of the pillow mist and the conditioner.
16I've always wanted to grow lavender but there are so many different kinds that I dont know which seeds to buy. Is the one in the picture English Lavender? Can anybody help me out? Your help would be much appreciated.
17I'd love to know also - never have grown lavender.
18Lush Angels on Bare Skin is a great exfoliator with real lavender seeds!
19Who makes Lush Angels?
20I am obsessed with lavender! I use it for everything, from household cleaners (Mrs. Meyer has the most amazing lavender scent) and lotions (my fav being from Origins). It's just one of those smells that makes me happy!
21I've never cared for lavender scented products. I have a lavender scented candle and I can barely tolerate that.
22I have a lavender scented velvet eye mask that my flatmate gave to me as a present before I had to get on a 10-hour flight last year and I am in love with it. The inside is filled with lavender seeds and totally helps me drift off into a deep and calm sleep. I've also had a couple of massages where the masseuse (sp) used lavender essential oil and that was amazing. Is it sad that I want to go to Provence so I can stock up on lavender-scented goodies???
23i use lavendar oil when i put henna in my hair. i buy the powder and after mixing it i add lavendar oil to make the experience relaxing and it makes my hair smell heavenly.
24Straight lavender makes me sneeze but I love the smell of it. I have Johnson's stress relief body oil and night lotion and they smell delicious.
25JaimeLeah526 - lavender essential oil used to make me sneeze too, but I found one from Best of Nature (http://www.spabodyworkmarket.com/Lavender_Essential_Oil_p797.html) that is a little more subtle but just as wonderful smelling as the others I tried and couldn't use. The smell of lavender is just so calming -- it's wonderful.
