Now that I've been using my Clarisonic ($195) for a few weeks, I think it may be time for an intervention. As dorky as this sounds, I now look forward to washing my face; the brush just leaves my skin so soft and smooth that it's hard not to get hooked.
Unfortunately, I learned a lesson the hard way. At first, I used the Clarisonic night and day, happily buzzing away dead skin. All went well at first, but within a week, my face was much shinier than usual by mid-afternoon. (And we're not talking the soft, dewy glow of youth, either.) Fortunately, after reducing my Clarisonic use to before-bedtime cleansing, my face responded well, and Exxon-Mobil is no longer harassing me to secure oil rights to my face.
A few more benefits are starting to sprout, too: My pores appear smaller because they're not so clogged, and on good days, my foundation-free skin looks healthy and fresh-faced. Plus, I went to visit my mom, and it's not just me who's crazy about Clarisonic; after using it just once, Mama Bella is dropping some heavy hints as to what she'd like for her birthday. But the question remains: Is Clarisonic worth the nearly $200 it costs? The answer to that — or my opinion, anyway — will be revealed next week.

I did go to Sephora and buy one of these last week (after lots of online research) and I love it. My skins feels so much softer and I feel like my make-up goes on a lot smoother. I was concerned b/c I have really oily and sensitive skin, but so far so good!
1I'm thinking of buying one too...it just sounds amazing.
2I purchased one of these about a week and a half ago after hearing so many positive reviews about it. I can definitely say my skin is much softer and I'm much better about washing my face, BUT I've actually noticed an increase in breakouts. I'm using my regular facewash and I've cut back from using the Clarisonic twice a day to only once at night. I don't know if it's one of those things where it gets bad before it gets better or if the Clarisonic just isn't for me. I'll give it another week or two but unless I see an improvement this might end up stashed under my sink...or being returned!
3i think my skin is definitely softer...i had some weird random dry patches that are gone now....i've been using it only in the mornings with my regular cleanser, Purpose, maybe i should start using it only at nite!
4your skin is supposed to get worse before it gets better. ive had one for a year and i love it.
5I want a Clarisonic soo much!!
6Foxytnns- Your skin is probably purging. Whenever you start manually/chemically exfoliating your skin on such a regular basis, clogged pores that you may have never even noticed become unearthed. Worry not though, that is a good thing!! I pay an aesthetician $100/treatment for those results.
I just ordered one of these last week and I'm still waiting on it! It better come tonight
7Question - has anybody tried the Neutrogena Wave? If so - did you like it? Just trying to compare it to Clarisonic.
8I'm sure it's different for everyone but any ballpark figure for how long the "purging" usually lasts?

10emlod10, here's a Neutrogena Wave review.
Purging generally lasts for a few weeks. Whenever I've used Rx acne treatments, I go through three to five weeks of it, and it isn't fun — but on the other end, things are much better.
foxytnns, I think you are smart to go down to once a day. Maybe even try once every other day? Hope it goes well for you!
11I want one but am waiting for Bella's final report.
Do you think it is purging or is it, in fact, taking away too much, so the skin is signaled to replenish oil?
I second emlod10's request for info: Is anyone using Neutrogena's Wave?
12for anyone interested Nordstrom is having their semi annual sale with all the new fall clothes on sale, along with lots of great beauty deals and right now they are having a his and hers set of these clarisonics for a special deal, so if you know someone else who'd go on in buying that set with you or you just want one for yourself and ur significant other it seems like that would be a sensible way to save money and get a great product!
13I agree with bella about the purging. I think it mostly depends on how congested your skin is, however, once you've finished you will really begin to see results!! Hang in there
14I just double checked and at nordstrom.com its $350 for two of them, instead of $195 for one, so it's not like you're saving an arm and a leg...but you're not spending it either, i'm definitely going to try and convince a friend to split the cost with me!
15No thanks, with that money i'd rather buy the T3 hair dryer i've been wanting. I'll stick to my bare hands. Sound neat though.
16Wow, if only I'd known about the purging sooner--I was so stressed out when I was having breakouts despite using my beloved Clarisonic also! So relieved to hear that it's normal. And also, to echo--my skin has gotten better after I dealt with the breakouts.
Another that helped was switching from the sensitive brush to the normal brush. I just assumed that since I have sensitive skin, I should use that one, but it turns out that's not really necessary. My skin has felt a tad better since I switched. Bella, do you know how often you're supposed to switch brushes?
17I'm not sure, Geek. I'll do some sleuthin'.
18I've been using Clarisonic for 2 months now and it's great. I tried the "Wave" prior to Clarisonic and you get much better results with the Clarisonic...plus if you do the math in 9 months the "Wave" will cost you the same as a Clarisonic which costs $195 and you get 3 brushes (2 in kit plus 1 free in mail after registration) while the Wave is $16 plus the cost of refills are apprx $20/month for 9 months (if you use it twice a day)...
19you supposed to switch brushes every 3 months i think. but dont take my word for it!
20i agree with chiquita25!! savin up the pennies for the t3. doesnt a good ol' facial brush work the same? ive had the same one from shiseido and it works great!! (works best with a foaming cleanser)
21that looks so cool!im going to get it1

23I'm thinking of trying a facial cleansing brush first ... all the clarisonic reviews sound great, but still...
here's a less complimentary review:

Not sure I'd pay $200 for it...
25I just can't spend this kind of money on something like this. Maybe one day when I have money to blow.
26it seems kind of expensive...couldn't you just buy a face brush and use you're own line of skin care with it??
27So what's the final verdict???
28where's the update and final verdict???
29Yeah I want to know too.
30But I do agree with chiquita25 a T3 dryer is def a product to get. I love mines.
I have been searching for something to help my skin look better something i can do at night. I am on this whole makeover thing on myself. And Skin is right at the top of my list
31A best item and investment for overall skin health. I know I need ex foliation POWER!
