I think MAC comes out with a new makeup collection more often than I sanitize my shower, but hey, that's not a terrible thing, is it? The latest launch to catch my eye is the Mineralize Skinfinish Duo ($26.50). The compact contains finely milled, baked face powder; about 75% is matte, and the rest is softly shimmery.
The idea is that you can use the matte powder on most of your face, then highlight cheekbones with the light-reflecting, shimmery powder. Swirling a brush around the whole compact leads to a too-shiny look for me, but with a stippling brush, it's easy to apply only the matte or shimmery finish. I like how the matte powder seems to sink into my skin, leaving no telltale trace; it just looks like skin, which is ideal. The shimmer is definitely more dramatic, so use it sparingly. I like to use it under the eyes after applying concealer, because it reflects light and hides puffiness. To find out what doesn't work so well, read more.
The pigment particles are so fine that they blend into skin easily, but there's a drawback: Whenever I wear dark clothing with this powder, I inevitably look down and see a subtle glimmer on my hands and outfits. It's not super-flashy, but — well, you know I like to tell you these things.

i've been eyeing this since it launch and since i already have the sculpt and shape and dont know if i really want another powder w/ shimmer.
1I've not really interested in this, I feel like the shimmer particles would get mixed in with the matte powder side...I don't love shimmery face powders as it is.
But I did recently buy one of the Mineralize Shadow Duos in Odd Couple and I LOVE it!
2I'm a little scared to try MAC products again. I use to use MAC a few years back. But since then, my skin's gotten to be a bit more tempermental & sensitive...so I'm sticking to gentler cosmetic lines..but, if my skin wasn't so sensitive, I'd definitely try this powder out! It seems like a perfect combo!
3I am definitely getting one of the New View MSFs...
4MAC really does come out with too many collections! I feel jaded by all of them. It's been a long time since I actually checked out any of their new stuff.
5What brush did you use? The compact is a little to small for my usual powder brush.
6I saw this yesterday @ MAC I'm still wondering if I should get it... It seems cool i guess i can try it 1st !!!
7I like the concept of this, but I just don't see how the shimmer won't end up mixing in with the matte side.
8Mythai, I just used a generic stippling brush.
9Eh i'll pass. I still have plenty of my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural compact left. I'm happy with it.

the iridescent/pressed powder in belightful is pretty much the same thing. i love it. i use it has a highlighter, eyeshadow, anywhere i want a little shimmer.
11I had a lukewarm reaction to this until I tried it. If you find your correct shade (which is likely MUCH DARKER than your regular foundation/powder colors) it's a pretty amazing product. It combines medium coverage with subtle shimmer... and honestly it looks great even on my oily skin. I usually stay FAR away from shimmer, 'cause I just end up looking oily. But this really works. I have to say that I use it everyday around the sides of my face, with blotting powder in the T-zone. I'm a convert, even though MAC had to drag me kicking and screaming! I understand that they may not keep it, so I've already gone online and ordered a stack of compacts.
