I had no idea that a bar of clay could be a panacea to so many different skin ailments, but Fresh's Umbrian Clay Treatment Bar ($38) does the job. Umbria is a clay-rich region in Italy, and the treatment bar is made from pure clay. It has the appearance of soap, but once you feel it, you'll see that it's chalky, hard and much heavier and more fragile than soap.

It helps with breakouts, diaper rash, mosquito bites, razor-burn, ingrown hairs and eczema. It works by regulating the production of sebum in your skin, reducing inflammation, and balancing out your skin's natural acid level. I couldn't believe that after just one use the tiny bumps on the back of my arm (that I sometimes get in the hot summer months) dried up and flattened. After two uses, they almost completely went away.
To use, wet an area of the bar and apply it directly to your skin. It dries to a thin finish and is very gentle so it can be used on the most sensitive skin, even baby skin. You can use it as a mask (leave it on for five minutes and rinse) or as a spot treatment.

I bought this Umbrian Clay from Fresh.com. I really like it. I use it on my acne and on ingrown hairs. I did not know you could use it on the bumps on arms. My husband has that problem and now were going to put it on him tonight. Thanks alot.
1cannot wait to buy this for my husband for ingrown hairs...
2Neat. I need this for my face. It gets too oily way too quickly and then, I start to break out.
3If it were half the price I'd snatch one up in a second.
4Me too, it just is a lot of money
5It's a lot of money, but I'd definitely use it for ingrown hairs and mosquito bites. I love clay!
6Ooh, this looks really nice. I love all things clay, what with being oily and all. And it's a multi-tasker, which is extra-cool!
7ohhh.. thanks for the info. I might try this myself.
8$38 for a bar of clay but it softens Keratosis Pilaris and ingrown hairs?! I will happily fork over the dough. I can't wait to try it.
9Wait, it helps with diaper rash AND razor burn? As a new mom, I'm sold.
(Please note: I am not shaving the baby. She's already pretty bald.)
10That is pretty expensive, but it sounds like it might be worth it!
11$38, how does it compare to just using Umbrian clay mixed with water and applied topically? I'll have to run this past my hubby though, he has some excema that he is super self-conscious about.
12Pricey, but I would love to try it. Do you know if there are any cheaper, similar products out there?
13I'm a little late in posting but you can get it at sephora. Still $38 but at least you can get sephora points!
14love this, but I agree that it is a lot of money for a bar of soap - I'll have to think about it, though, because it sounds really great...
15Oooh, I totally wanna buy this, but like many, it does seem pricey.
Maybe we could all go in $5 on it and divvy it up.
Wonder how long it'll last? If you just add a bit of water and use it on spots, it seems like it would last a long time.
16Everyone who is interested in this product should read reviews on makeupalley.com. Apparently Umbrian clay is really just a marketing scam. I have not tried this personally but I always research products before buying and it does seem a little sketchy to me.
"The marketing behind this product is sheer genius - meant to generate tons of profit from insanely high markup in price. Everyone wants some "special clay from Nocera Umbra, Italy", right? Who DOESN'T want it?
17But the bottom line is there is no "special spot" in Italy that yields a skincare miracle- this is a very simple clay, temporarily dries up oil, and the minerals inherent in it AND ANY OTHER CLAY will serve and do the job just as well,
-- except minus $40."
