Seems it's the Summer of unusual mascaras. Lancôme and Estée Lauder are both launching vibrating versions — more on those soon — and Givenchy is also trying something new with its Phenomen'Eyes Mascara ($27).
The big difference with this mascara is its wand. Instead of a traditional brush or comb applicator, it has a small sphere with tiny bristles sticking out in every direction. The design is meant to allow more precise application, helping you wiggle the mascara from the base of each lash to its tip. I've tried it and I have a lot of things to say, so for the full review — plus a before-and-after photo — read more.
I won't lie to you: Using Phenomen'Eyes takes a little bit of practice, but after your first or second application, it's a breeze. The design of the brush really captures and separates each lash, and because you can easily reach lashes from different angles, the application is more precise than most traditional wands allow. The tradeoff: Application isn't as quick as it would be with most mascaras, but the results are, well, phenomenal.

This mascara does an amazing job of creating volume, definition, and length. Every time I finish applying a single coat, I'm wowed by what a difference it makes. My eyelashes look thick and full, almost like false lashes — without ever looking artificial or overdone. (Actually, I take that back; on lower lashes, this mascara is way too much.) My only complaint? The formula clumps a bit while going on. So if you laughed when I told you about mascara combs, now you know why they exist. Still, with a little finesse, you can use the wand to flick out the clumps.
Overall, it's a great mascara that I predict will be as big as DiorShow and Cover Girl Lash Blast — so don't be put off by its unusual look.

This review is great because I've been really curious about this mascara! Thanks Bella!
1It's cool, but one of may pet peeves is clumpy lashes I will spend all day combing them out. I think I will stick w/ my Maybelline Define-a-lash.
2Thanks for the review and pictures Bella! I've been dying to know about this!
3I'm waiting on the oscilation and the esteé lauder mascara. I will try this one too and if I don't like I'll just return it.
4I've been waiting for your opinion on this--thanks! $27 seems like a lot to plunk down on a mascara but it really does sound awesome. I can deal with clumps, but I wonder how it is in terms of flaking and smudging underneath the eyes...I have such bad luck with raccoon eyes after a few hours of mascara...
5No flaking or smudging! It has good lasting power. I don't use it on my lower lashes, though — it's just too much drama for my peepers.
6Sweet. Thanks, Bella! I'm not a fan of mascara on my lower lashes anyway...my dark circles can't handle it!
7beautiful eyes

9I own it...or at least I used to until I got fed up and threw it away! What a waste of $27! It goes on way to clumpy for my liking. I had to wipe the wand off on a tissue first and even then I needed to comb out my lashes. I will never again stray from my MAC mascara X!
10Wow, your lashes look great! I was already excited to try this after reading a few reviews, but these photos really sold me.
11I think I could just handle this, sounds like fun!
12I bought it after a philadelphia dj{our local beauty products queen}- Lisa Paige at q102 did a video blog & showed the results- and I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE it!!!! I have more lashes now then ever before
13Great review. I am very curious now
14it does look very interesting, and I would try it. Just not for that price (a wee bit steep)
15really been wanting to try it, thanks for the write up Bella...now if only I could win it on here...
16Thanks Bella, I was just wondering about this the other night.
17I think I will give it a try when I need to re-up on the mascara, I just bought another tube of Diorshow (my fave) so once its out, I will check into this!
Desodaro, it's in all of this week's daily giveaways — so cross your fingers and enter.
18I've been wanting to try this since I first laid eyes on it...it looks so cool! And it looks really nice on your lashes too, Bella...made them nice and dark and really gave definition.
19I would love to try this. Mascara is my must have product.
20You should have shown us what your lashes looked like with your old mascara!
21Interesting. That after photo really shows off how well this mascara performs. I might have to try it someday. Thanks for the review!
22Thanks for the review Bella!
23Bella, I'm going to try it! Thanks!!
24So excited for this one. The concept makes perfect sense. I already tried to get it in July but was told to come back in August. I'm ordering it today.
25Its a great idea, but yeah I can see it totally not working for that "light dust" across lower lashes..but fab for upper ones.
26i wouldnt pay 27 dollars for it though
27Bella can I please have your job?! I want to try out makeup and get paid for it too !
28I'm a mascara junkie but this brush looks scary
29Sounds intriguing, but my $15 mascara is cheaper, doesn't flake or smudge, and doesn't clump. I think I'll stick to my cheaper brand, thanks.
30This is so cool! I usually use my wand vertically bcus it open eyes...if i master that am sure this wand wld be just up my alley...
31that looks really cool.
32plus you have beautiful eyes bella =]
Wow, this makeup look gorgeous.
