It used to be that if you wanted to be considered glamorous and put-together, you wouldn't dare walk out of the house with chipped nail polish — and now chipped nails have become a trend. Now, some celebs are taking it to the next level. With all of their wealth and fame, they gaily roam the streets with naked nails.
My guess is that they're either in between manicures, or they're enjoying a break from the stress of putting on and taking off polish. Then again, with a good buffing, naked nails can look shiny and healthy — much more chic than chipped polish, I think. Do you hope this trend sticks around, or do you prefer a more "finished" look?

Yay! stick around, trend! 99% of the time I have short, clear-polished or naked nails on my hands, and I only get pedicures in the summer. I do a lot of typing and I have broken and chipped more nails than I care to remember on my subway commute.
1I hate wearing polish on my finger nails because it chips so fast! I'm a musician and a very hands-on type person, so nothing lasts on my nails. I hope this trend stays around forever!
2I always keep my nails short and naked. I type alot at work and I wash the dishes at home so they don't stay on for very long.
3Woo! I'm in style! I rarely wear polish on my fingernails because it chips too quickly.
4Yea same here princess! I do SO much typing too, I jsut keep a bottle of clear polish at my desk to make them shiny and new every couple of days
5Oh god no, I hate naked nails!
And most people do NOT have nice enough nails to pull the look off.
I love nailpolish, and I don't mind applying it and maintaining it.. all you need is a good base and top coat. Plus it's a fun way to play around with colour... anything goes.
Worse than naked fingernails are naked TOENAILS!
6*shudder*
Feet need all the help they can get ladies!
I usually have on nail polish. For some reason, I won't bite my nails if I have it on. The minute I take my nail polish off the urge to chomp on my finger nails comes back. Odd, but true.
7I never wear nail polish so of course I am all for this trend! I think nail polish looks weird on me.
8As a violinist teaching in the public schools, my nails must be kept very short, and polish is usually chipped beyond repair in a single day anyway. It would be fun to feel trendy for once.
9don't have nice enough nails?? really?
is anyone else having a mean girls moment, or is that really just another thing we're supposed to be self-conscious about?
10I usually wear my nails naked or with clear polish - I like the clean, fresh look of them.
11I like nail polish but it chips so much because I use my hands a lot. I like the naked look recently.
12I hardly ever polish my nails, so I guess I always have the "naked" look. My nails are really white at the tips naturally, so they always look pretty nice, even when they're bare.
I DESPISE chipped nails, I will never rock that look intentionally. Ever. It doesn't look good at all.
13i like this trend! as a busy mom, with a 1 year and a 3 year old, as well as being a grad student, i don't have time to wear and maintain nail polish. and when i do wear nail polish it lasts one day, even with a base coat and a topcoat, because i am always washing my hands or using hand sanitizer.
14I like wearing nail polish. I think it's a fun and inexpensive way to feel fresh and up-to-date. But I abhor chipped polish and my nails need a break every once in a while. Right now, I'm not in the mood to paint them and I feel much cleaner and natural without it. Plus, I think groomed, manicured "naked" nails look so chic.
15that's actually a trend that's been around for awhile - some call them natural manicures - the technitian buffs and does a regular manicure but tops it off with vitamin enriched oils rather than nail polish.
16Naked nails are really cool..I wear naked nails abt 98% of the time...the other time i wear "rock" type polish like black purple gray...and neon green or blue .....It is hard to have naked nails that look good but I use Sally hansen Natural Nail Activator...it has some marime extract and u see result in three days...tried and tested!!
17I don't think chipped polish is "in" per se. I just think that some people (myself included) have better things to do than run to get nail polish remover when one little chip occurs. As I am writing, all ten of my OPI "Linkin Park at midnight" nails are chipped. If I wear my nails "naked" i buff some sally hansen apricot cuticle cream onto my nails and they look perfectly groomed.
18I don't mind having "naked" nails. But right now I have a pink tip french mani. I know a lot of people don't like french manis but I thought the pink tip was cute.
19BTW, Penelope looks great in that pic! I'm sorry I can't say the same for Reese. She looks really, er, tired?
20I do a very tidy fingertip length buff manicure once a week. I type a lot and I can't stand having longer nails. Nail polish (lincoln park after dark) is nice, but nail polish remover is not, so I only lacquer a few times a year when I need a boost.
21I definitely prefer buffing to any polish. It doesn't chip off and start looking terrible, the way polish does, and it doesn't require as much care and upkeep. And I think it gives a lovely look--polished, but not trying-too-hard.
22whoohoo, finally someone understands. I like getting my nails done but I'm more interested in the massage LoL, trust me they do a GREAT job at the place I go & it's cheap too.
23i think if you just put on a coat of clear over it for some shine, naked nails can look rather nice
24Yes! I finally fit in with the style. I always have naked nails. I like this style.
25In the last few weeks I had a manicure and pedicure but gone without polish on my hands and toes. I have been applying Dr. Hauschka's Neem Nail Oil every morning. I am liking the clean look.
26^Oooh, I should try that! Nice tip, dukegirl. I'm so feeling the natural look these days.
27I've always had naked nails until recently when I've been getting into the polish... I do a dark red on weekends and for work a really nice almost naked pink shade. I dont like bare nails at all anymore, i've always got the pink shade on as it gives a nice gloss but still looks natural.
28Some women wear nail polish.
Some women don't.
And some forget to touch up their nails when the polish is chipped.
None of the above scream "trendy" to me in any sense of the word. How can it even qualify as such? It certainly doesn't sound special to me.
29I love when I'm IN.
30Besides I like them naked so I can continously apply my Sally Hansen Natural Nail Growth Activator
The stuff REALLLLY works.
I never had long natural nails before this stuff.
I live by this stuff:

Here it is:
32I love it http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?product=113
I have a severe chronic illness and for periods - my nails are a peeling flaking mess. I usually need to stop using regular polish and do treatments for this issue. I started using Sally Hansen "Complete Care" (which is totally clear) and it looked so shiny and clean and also strengthened my nails, I hardly ever use colour anymore.
33Sorry to double post but I had to share the link, all of this products claims have so far held true for me

@chancleta - I've used that too, its good stuff. I swear by SH, its affordable and effective.
34though i do like the finished look sometimes i cannot be bothered so i do hope this trend sticks lol
xoxo
35i always keep my nails short with clear nail polish...
36i use sally hansen too...its shinier to me that other brands.
I prefer clean, short clear nail polish on my fingernails, but during the holidays I'll go for a fabulous Chanel nail color as they usually have a limited edition for the season. I read somewhere (a while back, actually) that the clean, short unpolished nail was making a comeback. Does anyone out there know or could recommend a really good nail buffer that can give clean, dry unpolished nails a "shiny" look? Mine works great at buffing off any ridges, but it doesn't leave them looking shiny as I would prefer.
Any suggestions would be quite welcome.
37whoa i'm kinda surprised at all the nakeds here. for a while i'd always be embarrassed bc we'd go out and i was the only not rocking some trendy color but for some reason i HATE manicures. i have no patience for them. i just hate knowing that i'm about to sit for at least a half hour and be paranoid touching things for the next 2. one thing i have a problem with is my jungle growing cuticles...no one gets em like the manicurists...i bought all the tools but nah. BUT sally hansen 30 sec cuticle remover is a life saver. is sally hansen a nail monopoly or what?!
38I like the naked nail trend. It's cute and really easy. Just buff your nails and go. It's a great alternative when you're too busy for a manicure.
39Just in case anyone cares about their health as much as they do being fashionable...nail polishes are made with some very harmful cancerous chemicals. That's where that toxic smell comes from. Just google "nail polishes cancerous chemicals" for more information. So yes, I have had "naked" nails for years now. Also, because I eat healthily and drink lots of water, my nails are strong and beautiful.
40Totally dig this trend. Cause it works with ALL phases of my life. The broke phase, the i'm working all the time on the computer phase, the i'm crazy busy phase. .
A lot of the time my nails are naked, and even when I'm trying to keep up on the manicures it doesn't last more than a week no matter how hardcore the topcoat is that I use. . chipping will occur. . . I just go with the flow.
