From country singer to pop star to hair extension creator, this multi-talented lady has done it all. Her latest venture takes her into the fragrance world. When I first heard of the aromas featured in Jessica Simpson's perfume, Fancy ($49-$59), I suddenly had the urge to make a sundae. Apricot, pear, toasted almonds, caramel? Yep, my teeth started aching just thinking about it.
The name of the perfume didn't raise my hopes; when something's described as "fancy," that usually means it's just the opposite. But upon experiencing my first whiff of the scent, I was pleasantly surprised. The aroma isn't as sticky-sweet as I envisioned — it's more sophisticated than the overly literal smells of Jess's earlier Dessert line. I loved Fancy's lightness of apricot and pear notes; and the vanilla helped to add a subtle balance to the blend. It's warm and inviting, and considering how men seem to go bananas for vanilla, it's a good first-date fragrance.
Although I'm impressed by the thought behind the blend, the floral notes — which include jasmine and gardenia — are just a little too, well, fancy for me. I like a hint of dirtiness in my fragrance, but if you love sweet, warm blends, Jessica's perfume is worth a sniff. Even though it's too vanilla for me (take that either way you like) it's pleasant and long-lasting, and it's bound to be a guilty pleasure of anyone who's normally opposed to the idea of celebrity fragrance in general.

"Fancy".. haha, that's funny.
1I'll pass. The fact that this fragrance is "made" by her or whatever is actually what puts me off the most!
2I really like the bottle. I think it's pretty. I don't know about the actual fragrance though. It doesn't sound like anything new or special.
31. Everything about it is so dated, not to be confused with vintage or retro, just stale, which is embarrassingly appropriate considering the current state of Ms. Simpson's career.
2. The name "Fancy" is beyond bad. It sounds like Harlequin Romance speak for a woman's privates. (He thrust his throbbing member in my willing fancy. . .)
3. The bottle looks like it belongs on the dresser of the madam who lives over the saloon in a John Wayne western. Maybe Papa Joe stumbled upon a close-out of generic scotch decanters at Big Lots and had Jess, Ash, Pete and Tony decorate them with craft paint one day after Sunday School.
4. Introducing another vanilla-based gourmand fragrance in a saturated market is hopelessly out of step with the current fragrance world, just like the would-be country singer and her creepy fame-obsessed father.
4I just smelled a sample of this today...I think it's soft and pretty. Nothing special, a little forgettable, but definitely a pleasant smell. I won't run out and buy it, but I think it's okay.

"he thrust his throbbing member in my willing fancy"
that was awesome
6The Macy's ad came in the mail with a sample of this. It's way too sweet. I took one whiff and put it down. Reminds me of her Dessert line. I don't like to smell like a vanilla cupcake.
7Fancy? Really? That reminds me of someone....
8I totes agree w the romance novel reference!
Plus Fancy is a famous Reba song about a prostitute!
9Jessica Simpson said Reba was one of her inspirations, so she must have named the perfume "Fancy" on purpose. Jessica must think country music fans want to smell like a hooker.
10Fancy was a Bobby Gentry song before Reba recorded it, and it wasn't about a hooker, more... a mistress using loaded men to escape a horrible background because that was her only option. Far more class than a prostitute, and far more brains/independence than a trophy wife.
Song does a great job of pointing out how many options uneducated women of a certain class had in 1969, or for that matter the 1700s, or in many places now.
Gentry's take on it was "'Fancy' is my strongest statement for women's lib, if you really listen to it. I agree wholeheartedly with that movement and all the serious issues that they stand for — equality, equal pay, day care centers, and abortion rights."
Anyhow, exploiting male weakness, isn't that the whole point of a perfume? Particularly one with vanilla (which most men adore) being hawked by a big-boobed blond (who probably isn't as feather-headed as her image).
11ahles, what you describe, is still a prostitute. Most women I know wouldn't want to smell like a prostitute for free. I can't imagine any of them forking over $59 to smell like one.
12All I keep thinking about is Fancy Nancy, the book for little girls.
I'm tired of celebrity fragrance. And I don't think she has a big enough fan base to make this a go. Maybe I'm wrong...
13Well, I liked the scent and I do like the bottle! To each his own.....
14I can't get past the name. I agree that anything that calls itself fancy probably isn't. It sounds decent but a little too sweet sounding. I wouldn't buy it but it doesn't sound horrible.
15I am still screaming with laughter at the Harlequin comment
I smelled this inside Glamour magazine the other day (you know, where you can flip over part of the ad to smell the fragrance) and it was very pleasant. Won't buy it until I've tried the actual thing though.
16I really think this is her attempt to position herself as "country". She's not, nor ever will be, the next Reba McEntire.
17i think it smells nice. and i think her cd sounds awesome so far but then again, im not one to knock someone down just for the heck of it... have you heard her duet DO YOU KNOW with dolly? its a beautiful song... the perfume smells nice too.. and the word fancy makes me think of IT DOESNT TICKLE MY FANCY... which isnt old or high maintenance.. keep it up, jess... you make things happen while the rest of em just like to watch... and criticize
18I like the bottle and I like the scent. It's girlie-ish.
It's not wh*re-ish like that babyphat mess.
I think of it more like SJP's Lovely not the country song.
Fancy has no staying power. Macy's has samples. FYI
19Fancy??? She may as well just call it 'run o the mill common'
20try sth new girl!
21I LOVE THE SCENT AND THE BOTTLE IS PRETTY TOO!
22I don't care about the name, or the celeb fragrance trend as a whole... but I bought this tonight... The big bottle. I was in Ulta for a couple hours with my guy. Every perfume I tried or tested he was like "it's good", or "I like it" or "what do you want me to say? Do you like it?" lol When I tried this one on, he went "wow what is that?!" There you have it ladies, men love gourmands more than any other perfume. The thing is, I love it too. It reminds me a little of Betsey Johnson, but better. I hate to say, but she hit the mark with this one. It smells really good and wearable.
23As for all the comments on how bad is in theory.. I have smelled alot of perfumes, and some of the worst were from Design houses. Very few perfumes launched by design houses make it or are kept on the market for more than 5 years. Perfume as art is dying. So let the people have what they want. The fact is, most women want to wear a perfume they love and men will love. Men love gourmands, common sense. Put this up against Prada and the fact is that most men will not choose Prada. You can say what you want, but it's the truth.
24I recently purchased "fancy" and I think it smells divine.
25It was the only swatch in the magazine that did not proceed to give me a migraine. I wore it for the first time today and already a guy has asked, "what are you wearing?" Who cares about a name or who produced it anyway? If it smells good, wear it!
Putting the fact that this is a "celebrity" fragrance aside, this fragrance was created by the head perfumer from Christian Dior - a reputable and high end company. The smell is warm based mostly with a vanilla fragrance - which makes it appealing to both men and women. The bottle is beautifully designed along with the rest of the packaging, as well. If you can forget that it is under Jessica Simpson's name, I think you will be pleased to find a very nice and easy-to-wear fragrance.
26i love the bottle is awesome, and the smell is amazing!!!!!
27i love it!=)

My husband gave me a sample. He and others I've dated before him seem to like women who smell like food!!! He always makes comments that most perfumes out there smell like flowers and in translation old ladies. I have to admitt this fragrance smells great. A nice change from most of those fragrances out there and men love it. Why do you think alot of Victoria Secret scents mimmic desserts.
30Even if I thought this pefume was the best thing I ever smelled, I wouldn't buy it just because she is connected to it and she disgusts me.
But it isn't the best thing I've ever smelled. Actually, it is a rather unpleasant scent. It starts out too strong and dries down to a drugstore brand cheapness.
My husband thought it stunk too.
31I got that perfume for mother's day. Spray some on ma sink, And I broke out into rashes....its disgusting.
32I bought it today and think it smells great. I don't really care who's name is on it or if it's 'celebrity' backed. My husband loved it too.
33My husband hates, HATES perfume. It either turns his stomach or makes his eyes water along with his nose. I was fed up with not being able to wear perfume around him. The last few days I've been telling him that I'm going to find a perfume that he will like from the moment it 1st goes on until it begins to lightly fade away. So, today was the today, I even had his mother join us on the special occassion. We smelled all differnt stuff at Macy's - DKNY Apple (& the other one) CK Summer (I hate CK perfumes, they all smell the same), Gosh, I can't remember them all but a ton. He kind of liked Chanel No.5 - not my cup of tea. Hates the powder ones (old lady smell) It was difficult to say the least until I picked up Fancy. I didn't know who made it I just picked it up and gave it a quick sniff. I liked it and sprayed my wrist. I then walked over to my husband and asked "what about this one?" his reply "oh, that's nice, what is it?" WOW! I was shocked. I bought it and like the other comment I couldn't stop smelling my wrist! It's not too vanilla (like vanilla fields or dark vanilla). I think it's a nice blend of sugar and spice and my man actually likes it! Every perfume smells differently on different people this one compliments me. I can't wait to wear it out...I give this one 2 thumbs up!
34I bought this Fancy for my my sister....It is more of the younger group perfume....I wouldn't use it my self cause I older...But my sister and all the girls in her age group love it....It is a great smell. It is soft. Yes it is a familiar smell but at the same time Jessica got it right cause it is not strong. It wont make you sick. I think if you are a very young girl this product is for you =) I am about to buy another bottle for my sister cause he is all out of it and she just loves it. It is her fav....=)
35I don't like the public image she's made for herself, so I will never support her or a company that does business with her with a purchase of anything from her line.
36Fancy has a great smell but is very expensive and the scent does not stay with you. It is terrible over-priced and I intend to return it.
37Really shocked at the haters out there! I was walking thru a major department store and someone stopped me to smell Jessica's Fancy frangrance. I don't usually go for star sponsored frangrances but stopped long enough to smell it and LOVED it! I get a lot of compliments when I wear it and mostly from the opposite sex. I just purchased my second bottle just for the compliments I get. It's not too flowery or vanilla-y either. Give it a real try before ya bash it whether you like Jess or not.
38well my name is Fancey and it smells beautiful
39I think fancy is one of the best perfumes I have ever smelled and I love the bottle! I hate the whole celebrity perfume crap but this perfume is AMAZING!!! I don't have to use very much of it and it stays on me all day! It is not over priced its a lot cheaper than a lot of other perfumes. I love sweet and vanilla smelling perfumes! This perfume is the best!
