We already know that dudes don't spend very much on grooming, but that's not necessarily the case when it comes to us. According to a new YWCA study, Beauty At Any Cost, American women spend $7 billion a year on cosmetic procedures and items. That averages out to about $100 a month for each woman — though certainly some big spenders are making up for the low-maintenance beauties out there. Can you breeze through a Benjamin in a weekend or do you think it sounds excessive?

I spend way too much on cosmetics, and I'm aware of it as I continue to buy more. But I can't help myself... sigh..it helps to know I'm not alone in this.. haha
1Of course. Especially on lotions and MAC make-up!
2yessss, MAC MAKEUP will be my downfall.. if it came down to rent or the latest mac collection, I would be homeless...
3There's no such thing as spending too much on beauty!
4Haha, I like bshowell's attitude.
I can easily breeze through $100 a month
(especially with higher-end stuff), but after MAC's just-released Cult of Cherry collection that I plan on getting this weekend, I'm on lockdown until December...no new makeup until the
holidays!!
5Oh I definately spend too much... hair alone is over 1600 year, yikes, but I was born a blonde and I'm damn well staying that way! As for cosmetics and lotions and potions... sigh... I should stop, but it's a fun relaxing way to spend a lazy Saturday morning. Add into that that I live in the middle of nowhere (but travel often) so when I hit a larger city makeup counters/stores.... I'm done for.
em1282... you've banned yourself until December? Oh sister, the holiday makeup collections start coming out in Oct.... if you wait until December, all the good stuff will be gone! (I'm such an enabler...)
6Yeah, I spent too much on beauty. To me, makeup is kind of a hobby or interest though. It's how I express my creativity, it relaxes me, etc. My boyfriend might spend $60 on a video game, but I'll use that $60 for a bunch of eyeshadows, and we both probably get the same level of enjoyment out of it. Aside from makeup, I hate spending money on beauty though. I'm not super high maintenance so I don't get waxed and all that, but I have to spend a lot at the hair salon and "necessities" like anti-frizz cream, moisturizers, and razors which all add up.
7Define too much!
I spend more than most people I know, but I do hold back some.
8$100 a month is easy to spend. More like $100 a store visit!
I do...I went through a bad stage earlier this year with Sephora...but I have been making myself stay OUT of the shopping malls for a bit so I can save!
9I don't think I spend too much on cosmetic, but do I actually spend too much? I have some friends and relatives who think I do, do that's where a disagreement occurs between my and their realities. I go through Sephora and Ulta's website and find things that I "need" and have the will power not to buy, but there are plenty of items that I break down and buy anyways.
10I definitely have a problem! I work about three blocks away from MAC, Lush, Sephora, my stylist's store, and Bluemercury. Maybe I need to find a job in the middle of nowhere, because I do "lunch" at these stores daily.
11I think I only spend between 10 to 30 dollars a month. Depending on what I need. Others times it is move if I run out of something.
12Not really. When I was getting foundation at the MAC section in Macys though, I really wanted a couple of eye shadows and lipsticks. I couldn't though, but I should another day.
13Definitely way less than 100 a month, although I am obsessed with my skin i really only look into food to keep it looking good
14I know that I do.
15oh GOD yes!
16"Too much" is only when it interferes with your lifestyle, I.E. you can't pay rent or put your usual amount into savings because you spent too much at Sephora. If it's not interfering with anything, you obviously have the money to spend and it is not "too much". I spend $50 a week on cosmetics. As you know, that is usually only 1-3 items. For my staples, I purchase those as needed in addition to the $50/week. If someone is spending "too much" to make their self look better, they have a bigger problem than a shopping addiction.
17I spend too much on beauty, for a person with no job.
18I spend a fair amount on skin care, but I don't think I spend too much per se. If I thought it were too much, I wouldn't spend it!
19It's so easy to spend a lot when
1) I'm still looking for the HG face wash and moisturizer
and
202) some of the good stuff are so cheap! (Revlon CS lipsticks, anyone?)
i spend too much on skincare, but that's my insurance company's fault.
21I don't think I spend more than $20 a month on average, but that's not to say that I wouldn't spend way more than that if I could
22I probably spend like 40-ish a month, if I were to average it out. Usually I'll go to Sephora like once every couple months and spend like $70. The rest is from haircuts and stuff. I do have a habit that every time I go to the pharmacy to pick up my birth control I buy something drugstore, usually a nail polish and something else.
23I don't. I hardly wear makeup and the stuff I do purchase is from Rite-Aid lol.
24Oh indeed... such fantastic timing, as I've been saving up for more than a month and am about to go splurge massively on the MAC Cult of Cherry collection.... to the tune of at least $150, if not more... *sigh*
25I don't THINK I spend too much on beauty products, I KNOW I do!!!
I love going to Sephora and Ulta (and even CVS) and browsing the makeup and haircare aisles...I can be in there for hours! And I never leave empty-handed, even when I don't "need" any new products.
2640 dollar face wash
22 dollar face lotion
18 dollar shaving cream
18 dollar razors (a pack)
27 dollar shampoo
14 dollar concealer (only sometimes, dont tell)
35 dollar scrub
65 dollar body scrub
Jeez and I wonder where my freaking money goes!
27Depends on what kind you mean...I'm a make-up minimalist; all I use is a good skin toner and moisturizer, and sometimes mascara and lipgloss. But I'm a huge sucker for anything to do with fragrance; perfume samples, Bath & Body Works lotions and creams, The Body Shop butters and scrubs...these things can really turn me into a spendthrift.
28I just use cleanser and moisturizer on my face. Then very minimal make-up. I think each year I spend about 180$. Benefit is my weakness though so I try to stay away from Sephora!
29Not on anti-aging potions and the such but makeup and body products, you can never spend too much.
30I don't spend $100 month on beauty products at all. I use what I've got. I get makeup whenever I see a color that I like or I've run out of makeup.

33I only buy the basics. But I just bought my first MAC product so that will be changing, lol.
34I have to agree with everyone else on here, MAC MAKEUP!!!!

36I have to agree with everyone else on here, MAC MAKEUP!!!!
37I have to agree with everyone else,on here. Mac Makeup, & Body Shop body butters are my favorite!!!
38I spend WAY WAY too much at Sephora and Holt Renfew...I love MAKEUP and perfume! I also like clothes, bags, shoes, lol
39i think i spend a lot of money on beauty products, but i have slowed down on the spending, cause i used to have to go to the mall for school, so i don't spend that much anymore, i used to spend $100 or more on beauty products it's crazy
40I buy make up stuff whenever..... wherever... and yes i spend waaaay too much.
41yes is pretty adicted,
42but every thing is so
nice, and so much stuff.
Who need a gloss when you
hace 20... well i DO!!!!
If I had more money to spend, I'd spend it. Since I don't I spend that much. I did splurge at Sephora last month though!
43Only in basic hygiene products (Deodorant, Hands Body Feet Lotions, Wax, Conditioner, Floss, Towels, perfumes, etc)it's over a hundred dollars every month.
Not counting make up and other treatments!
I need a rise!!!
LOL
44I hate I live in a small island where there's no Sephora, Mac, The Body Shop and other nice brand I'd love to try.
