So, Maybelline Great Lash mascara. We always read about how it's so top-notch and how makeup artists can't live without it and how it's the be-all and end-all of mascaras. But honestly, I don't know what the fuss is about. Every time I try it, my eyelashes rival those of the late and great Tammy Faye Messner — not my favorite look.
But that's just me. Perhaps you've had a different experience? I'd love to hear your thoughts, so head to Product Reviews to share your opinion and I'll feature some of the best ones here early next week. And don't forget: every day you share a product review, you're entered to win a prize. Can't wait to see what y'all have to say. Something tells me we're in for some surprisingly strong opinions on mascara.

I have it and I like it...but I find it gets "old" fast...like that clumupy old (you know what I mean). Other mascaras tend to last longer for me!
1I totally agree!
My current faves are Stila and Benefit, but it doesn't matter what you use as long as you have this:

2I LOVE the waterproof....I like benefit bad gal for evenings, but this is my day to day stand by. I wear contacts so I like waterproof mascaras unless I am really piling it on for night. I inherited my mother's Japanese straight eyelashes and this product (in waterproof at least) holds a curl like no other product.
3I cant stand this product. It is so overratted.
4I agree with Bella, I've tried it several times and have always ended up with very clumpy Tammy Fae-esque lashes. I use Covergirl's Lash Exact, that's by far my favorite for length and definition on a budget.
5Hate this mascara! Seriously, the worst mascara I ever bought. It would clump to give me like 5 eyelashes, only from one coat. I know how to properly apply mascara, and I just couldn't do it with this. I didn't want to throw the mascara out and waste it, so I tried using another mascara's wand which helped, but still was pretty sucky. Luckily my dog chewed up the bottle a little and I had an excuse to throw it out.
6I never liked it, either. I have very specific mascara needs, and Great Lash doesn't fulfill any of them.
7I like TwoFaced Lash INjection...its awesome. I would say its the best Mascara for me..since I have itty bitty..short chinese eye lashes. And its waterproof and comes off in little tubes like Kiss me...but gives mroe volume and length

9CYL, I have those lashes too, so now I want to try the Lash Injection!
Does it hold a curl well?
10SO not a fan, I've always wondered how much Maybelline pays the pros who claim to love it
The Tammy-Faye-ness is probably due to the sucky tiny brush, but my main complaint is that it takes forever to dry... if you look up too high it leaves dots along your lids, and you have to wait, like, an hour to put your glasses on.
Bad Gal is the best! The huger the brush the better (it helps that i have kinda froggy eyes lol)
11This was the first mascara that I've ever bought. I got it when I was in middle school because I've heard all the hype that it was "the best mascara". Maybelline Great Lash never did anything to my eyelashes. It wasn't the best product for me, and it was the worst mascara that I've ever tried.
12Personally I think there are way better mascaras out there compared to this one! It may work fine for the first few uses, but I don't like the design of the wand's bristles which makes it hard to get all the lashes covered without looking like you have clumpy tarantula eyes! It also runs out too fast, and the wand gets gross when the mascara's almost run out. (I use Cover Girl's Lash Blast now and get amazing results each time.)
13I think it's a good basic mascara in that it darkens and thickens your lashes, but it's truly no-frills. It does not lengthen, separate, soften, curl, or do any special trick that others can do (e.g. Illegal Lengths & Unstoppable, two Maybelline picks I do use). I've never been crazy about Great Lash Mascara, because I have short, fine, blonde lashes that need more help than that. I guess if you already have long, thick lashes and just want to play up what you've got, then it's a good choice.
14I've used both GREAT LASH and LASH INJECT... my opinion on GREAT LASH is that I used to love it and use it alot but the other day I grabbed it and tried to use it again and I don't know if it's because I've tried better kinds since, it just disappointed me. Definitely made a few of my lashes stick together every now and then so I looked "hard lashed" haha
The lash injection was ok but I didn't really get major results.. but I don't have the short lashes you're talking about so maybe that's why.. and it was hard to remove, it took a while to get it all off. Though the whole "tube" theory intrigues me.. the brush was hard for me to control because it was big but it could work awesomely for someone else, just my experience
15I like this, and it is my basic standby (esp. in waterproof). But, there are other mascaras (many of them) that do bigger and better things. The thing about Great Lash is that it is truly versatile and buildable. The brush allows for a variety of techniques, and the formula can be put on for a natural look, or built up for evening. So, I can see why pros would like that aspect of it.
16people buy it because its advertised as the number one seller right on the package. and people keep buying it because they don't know that pretty much anything else works better.
17I think it's soooooooooooooooo over-rated! But I don't have much in the way of lashes, a college roommate had gorgeous long thick eyelashes and she used Great Lash and it looked amazing. I think it works for ppl who don't need lash help, and I do, a lot!
18aww, sad. i like great lash.
it's the only kind i buy. maybe i should try something else?
my lashes are already pretty long and they curl a bit, but they are pale at the ends... any suggestions?
19Just wanted to add that even though I hate this mascara, every other Maybelline mascara I've tried has been awesome. I love Maybelline and don't want to hate on them. I hate on all the makeup artists that rave that this is the most magnificent mascara in the history of the world. It has to be some sort of conspiracy.
20The reason why make up artists like Great Lash is it has a slightly runny consistency and that makes it good to use with disposable mascara wands (spoolies). You can also add many, many thin coats. They don't use it with the brush it comes with, therefore they don't really love it, as is
21mellybean, if your lashes are already long and you're happy with what you're using it sounds like you could just stick with it and stay happy... but if you do want a change, my pick would be Full n' Soft, especially if you don't need the length, because it volumizes without being thick enough to flake or crack.
love your avatar, btw
22this is so overrated! i think i have all the same complaints as everyone else, but it does take forever to dry, and flakes off in the day, and there are way better mascaras out there.
23i looove great lash. i do, however, have naturally long eyelashes but i love the definition great lash gives. im also a mascara junkie.. dior show- blackout is my top rated but next to that is definitely great lash.
ps- lash injection smells like orange juice =P
24i actually love this because i love tammy faye clumpy gaudy mascara
( i think im the
only one! I think it works better too when its a little older.
25Jude...it holds pretty well for me. I curly it with a heated eye lash curler though.
26Yuck. This stuff got all clumpy on me. Don't get why it has such a cult following.
27i dont get it, either. this stuff sucks and the only reason its so "iconic" is because maybelline was one of the first cosmetics companies to have mascara. oldest does not mean best.
28I think this was the very first mascara I ever bought- Kind of makes me think of makeup with training wheels. It made my lashes clumpy and undefined. Today I have a few different favorite mascaras which include the new Givenchy mascara for a night out and Mally Beauty curling mascara for day. Both work amazingly well for me, try em'!
29has anyone tried the ionic one from Smashbox?
30I use the clear kind sometimes.
31Gross. I hate this stuff. I am sooo picky about my mascara. I have very long lashes but they are also very straight. So when I curl them, my mascara better hold the curl. This stuff does absolutely nothing for me, doesn't even look like I put anything on.
32I actually like Great Lash but with all makeup (especially Mascara) it's how it's applied that really counts ( base to tip with a wiggle), how long you keep your product, how it's stored etc etc. What I don't get is why people spend tons of money on DiorShow the most overrated mascara on earth when you can get something better even if it's not Great Lash for less!
33I've definitely heard that this mascara is "the best ever" but I've honestly never tried it...AT ALL. Many beauty products tend to get overrated so I don't ever completely trust what I hear. I'll probably buy it to see what all the fuss is about but if it's not that awesome--I wouldn't be surprised.
34One more thing the Benefit Bad Gal lover you are not alone it's one of my favorites, but I tend to use the BadGal Blue which makes the whites of you eyes pop!
35I actually love this stuff, however it is the only mascara I have used. I have really short lashes. Is there anything else out there that would extend them?
36Ora, Tweezerman Fast Lash is a product that works along with your mascara to add significant length. You can find it at drugstores; it's a bit pricey ($14 for a tube) but does last forever.
Be warned, though. It takes a little practice in the beginning. Very dramatic results, though!
37Thanks Jude I appreciate it, I need all the help I can get when it come to the length factor!
38Hate. It. Horrible stuff, it leaves black rings under my eyes when no other mascara does. Ridiculous stuff. Rhat's some market job Maybelline has done to keep it on "editor's picks" lists. Yay, Bella, for speaking the truth!
39I agree with you Bella, I've heard this stuff was always the best, but I find that there are other things out there that work much better for me. This stuff gets too clumpy and too smudgy.
40I have a friend who uses this -- her lashes need some love - if you know what I mean.
41I hated it -- it irritates my eyes to no end and gives me stick lashes. it's now somewhere in the drawer under my microwave...not where i keep most of my beauty products.
42I truly loathe this mascara -- it is the only one I have ever thrown out after the second use. My lashes are already long and dark and this did nothing to change them except for adding clumping.
43Very interesting to see what everyone has to say! If you want to add a review, do it here — you will be entered to win a prize from Bare Escentuals, and since it's almost the holiday weekend and lots of people are gone, my guess is your chances are pretty good.
44My Mom loves this mascara, but she has these dinky little thin lashes. Here is the deal, make-up artist love this (mascara) because in photos, runways, and stages your features (including eye lashes) get lost and washed out so you need a little extra umphf. On the every day level most women don't need and don't want that. So for stage purposes this mascara rocks or if you have unusually sparse eyelashes this may be your ticket, but otherwise leave it for the shows.
45I'm also a Lash Exact fan.
46it doesn't work for me. even the waterproof runs and smudges within hours. i need a seriously long-lasting mascara that looks fresh all the time and doesn't get clumpy.
47Pretty gross stuff. My mom used this her whole life and i will never forget how awful it looked. I have long eyelashes, and have tried it, it sux!
48I have no idea why there are so much hype over this mascara either.
49For some reason, Maybelline's Great Lash mascara is the only one I buy, even though it makes my eyelashes chunky and I rarely use it anyway. My eyelashes are already long enough so I don't really need mascara at all.
