A cloud of smoke is looming over your head and the sizzling strands of hair are causing quite the stench. Sandwiched between the radiating plates of your trusty flat iron are your poor, vulnerable locks.
With temperatures reaching upwards of 500 degrees (zoikes!), I'm sure you can see the merits of using some kind of protection. You already take measures to safeguard your skin from the rays of the sun, so treat your hair right, too.

Excess heat on the hair from blow drying, curling, and flat-ironing takes moisture out of your hair. Not only that, it breaks down the cuticle layer, creating a frizzy, dull, and faded mess. Blah.
So, are you using protection? Check out my list below for some great recommendations for thermal spray and serum protectors so that you can still turn up the heat — without all the risk.
- John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum, Thermal Protection Formula ($8.18).
- Nexxus Heat Protexx Heat Protection Styling Spray ($14).
- Frederic Fekkai Coiff Defense UV Protectant ($28).
- CHI Iron Guard ($12).
- Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray ($4.80).

3I've actually been giving my hair a break from heat but I can't leave my hair wavy without my mother insisting it's messy when it looks fine. It's kind of annoying.
4I use a V05 one when I'm blow drying my hair, but I don't know if it's actually doing anything.
I just like it because it smells nice and is great for volume.
5Thanks Bella, what a great timing!
6I'm planning to buy a flatiron, and was searching for some good thermal protection products. BTW, any recommendations on drugstore brand of irons? I can't afford shelling out another $100+ on one as I'm already broke after buying T3's Featherweight dryer (it's worth it btw!)
Hey Bella Donna,
I've heard pretty decent things about Conair's flat irons, although I have not tried them out myself. Seems to me that this would make an excellent Beauty Mark It!
7I've used frizz ease products in the past...no complaints!
8i use that exact tresemme spray and i love it. the smell and price are great
9I very rarelydry or curl my hair so I don't really invest in any product of this sort, I just condition.
10I hardly ever use heat on my hair but I have something I got for cheap when I do need it.
11I've tried many of those brands, including the pricey and odd smelling CHI (however, not the Fekkai, which I'm sure is fabulous). Right now my fav. is from Victoria's Secrets. It's slightly sticky at first which in my opinion helps secure the fly aways down instead of just greasing them up. I think it's 12 bucks and you get a nice sized bottle. plus it smells awesome.
12I only use Tresemme heat temer spray and now I don't need any other hair products. Soft, incredible shine and no flyaways. I have 3 extra bottles in the cabinet just in case. Love this stuff.
