Well, this "best of" skin care category was a wash. (Get it?) There wasn't a clear winner for Best Acne Fighter, but I'm loving some of the comments you made. DejaVecu has been using the Body Shop's tea tree oil system, and it's been great for her. "My skin is soft and bright, no more big embarassing break-outs, barely a blackhead in sight, no more dry patches," she says. Proactiv got a few write-in votes, too, but many of you were concerned about its drying side effects.
For what it's worth, my favorite skin care product of the year is Differin. It's available by prescription only, but it has dramatically improved my complexion. You can read about my Differin experiences to see what some of the side effects and benefits are, and if you think it might help you, make an appointment with your dermatologist. Okay, I know this sounds like a plug, but honestly, it's made a world of difference in my skin! Any similar miracle product for you and your pores?

Browns Fashion
Cetaphil works wonders for me. Nothing else has worked so well on my skin.
1I will concur on the Body Shop tea tree system - I've been using it since August, and there has been a dramatic difference; I'm really happy with my skin now.
2I tried Differin years ago, but it wasn't strong enough. It really depends on the person.
In order to get the clear skin I have now, I had to go though tons of prescriptions and treatments. Accutane helped, but my skin went south again after a year or two. Now I take another prescription that clears up hormonal acne, but it has its own weird side effects. :/
3When I got pregnant the OB said no way to using Pro-Activ, so I had to switch to a product that was natural but effective. I now use the products from Mario Badescu. I use the seaweed cleansing soap along with the seweed cleansing lotion. Theese are p my miracle product. They gently exfoliate and don't dry my skin out. .
4I wonder why the OB nixed the Proactiv? I've never been pregnant so I don't know what chemicals effect what. But I find it interesting
5omg.. she looks like angelina jolie somehow
6I hate Differin with a passion; it continued to ruin my skin after the 3 month period. I finally stopped using it in early November and now my skin is starting to heal. I've been using Pro-Activ cleanser and one of their night creams; along with PTR Jojoba Beads & Neutrogena Moisturizer. My skin has healed enough for me to use my Clarisonic again to rid some of the blocked pores that Differin caused. I'm going to a new dermatologist in jan/feb, so hopefully he can help more. I'd have to say my fave acne fighter this year was Clarisonic skin care brush.
7I am just ending my first week on Pro-Activ and all I have to say is W-O-W. I'm still anxious to see how my face becomes after the second week, but already all of my acne has disappeared. My skin feels fine and perfectly moisturized, and now what the product is doing is removing my acne scars, which I can see it working on better and better everyday.
8Although I can say that this is a product that will realistically only work if you stick to it continually, using it both in the morning and in the night. Nonetheless, I highly recommend it.
Retinoids, for sure. Started with RAM, and after several years, I'm using Tazorac. I'm not so thrilled about Lancome's UV Expert 20, which sadly made me break out (with a vengeance!).
Freaking titanium dioxide... I thought I could get away with 2%, but my face proves otherwise.
9benzoylperoxide hydrogel
It's way cheaper like 3/4 euro's, so that's maybe 6/7 dollars.
10And it works way better then any other product. but it does dry your skin so you have to use a daycreme as well.
Try tetralysal!
11I hate Proactiv with a passion. My skin is incredibly oily and somehow it managed to dry it out like I've never seen before. So never again!
I've been using an overnight mask from the Avon Mark collection and I think that's made a lot of difference in my skin. So far so good!
12Clinique does it for me (:
13I use Retin A. It made my skin really dry at first but once you figure out how much your skin can tolerate, it's all good. I still break out like a teenager so this helps keep the acne under control.
14One word: Benefit
15All of Clinique's products are very kind to my skin
16I didn't get acne until my 30s (lucky me) but would rather have it then rather than than teen years. Retin A was good but drying--I still use it on the monthy pimple, but I liked Differin. Guess it depends on the person. I had such oily skin until--get this--45! Then it was so dry for almost 6 months--so weird. I only wear mineral makeup and sparingly. So many good products now, just experiment but do go to a dermatologist if you can't figure it out. Life is too short to be unhappy about acne!
17I just got the Clean and Clear Acne Advantage. It's a 3 part system with a cleanser, moisturizer and spot treatment. It's not drying at all like I thought it would be and it makes my skin feel so soft. I can't wait to see the results, it's already starting to work.
18Perhaps I should try this Tree Oil System. I've using almost everything for my acnes; Clinique, Neutrogena, Shiseido and they don't really work that miraculously towards my skin
19I used Differin a couple of years ago. It was good for a while but then it made my skin worse. I've been using Brevoxyl cream and Retin-A, they've really helped with a recent (god awful) breakout.
I was keen on trying out Mario Budescu products because I've heard so many raves. Now I'm interested in the Body Shop tea tree oil system.
20I've actually been looking at the body shop teat tree products for some time now!
Now i've read this, i think i will buy it because i'm desperate for my acne to go away!
21The Body Shop tea tree oil works best for spot treatment, but the best for overall (for me anywho
)has been Murad. The Acne Moisturizing Gel is the best, not to drying, and great if your skin is on the sensitive side.
22I would love to hear any suggestions for ADULT acne that is not caused by oily skin. I have dry skin and horrible breakouts all over my chin and lately my forehead too.
I've used oral tetracyline, erythromyacin, and orthatricyline. (None worked long-term and who wants to take drugs til they hit menopause?)
I've used differin, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur sulfacetamide, retin-A, proactiv, neutrogena, arbonne clear advantage, the clinique stuff, Origins things, and nothing has worked....
23Brittany - I have the same problem, and I recently realized I just wasn't exfoliating enough. Alternating between Olay Pore Refining Mousse cleanser and Biore Blemish Fighting cleansing cloths has helped a LOT.
Also, a few weeks ago I had a medical facial. It (almost)
completely cleared up my skin for a few weeks... I'm still not sure if it was worth the price, since the results didn't last long, but it's definitely worth trying.
24I too hate ProActiv with a passion. It dried my skin so badly, i had patches of dead skin all over my face. It made my face look dirty for weeks, unil I got fed up and switched to ACne Free (sold in Walgreens and Duane Reade) much cheaper than Proactiv. Acne Free worked wonders on my skin, however it is not for long term use, it too started to dry out my skin significantly. Long story short... I found out Benzoyl Peroxide is really not good for our skin, it initiates free redicals, which is basically the dead and dry skin, that we try so hard to exfoliate. I have been using Olay foaming facial wash for combo skin with witch hazel.... i swear by the stuff, it cleanses the skin so nicely without drying, true story ! NO BS here.
Those with acne probs, loose the benzoyl peroxide and acid treatments... all it does is dry your skin out and age you. Olay products are the truth.....
25i've been using clearasil benzoyl peroxide cream forever for on-the-spot treatment. for face wash i usually like to try a different one each time i finish a tube, but i think the main regimen that has kept my pimples away is exfoliating with a pore refining scrub (Bliss is awesome, but expensive.. a cheaper way to go would be clean and clear blackhead clearing scrub)
26sounds like its diff't for each person here. my personal obsession for a glowing complexion is mario badescu. i think i have the entire line!! (haha) but it is inexpensive and works wonders. also for INTENSE drying out treatment, try DDF Formulations from sephora. anything with benzoyl peroxide in it will you give you that drying formula.
but of course the only thing that has EVER helped me 100% overnight is tanning beds (i know - it's bad) but it dries those suckers right up!
they offer a non-damaging light-treatment system at dermo offices, too, that is similar to tanning. works in 12 minutes and usually they will just charge you for a reg visit, if at all. ask for the blue light treatment thing.
27I had Differin prescribed to be by a derm, and after I received the expensive "slightly-smaller-than-a-toothpaste-tube" tube, I MADE SURE TO READ THE ENTIRE PAMPHLET. And it does indeed promise to FIRST make your skin look worse than it already does because it has to bring up all the dirt - even the hidden dirt - for the first week. I used it during a week when I didn't have school or any social obligations: and boy was I glad I did! My face got much worse and dry-er (That was the initial problem that I took to my derm: xtreme dry skin.) AND itchy! I too was supposed to stick to it for 3 mos., But I couldn't take it longer than 3 weeks!
The thing is though: after I stopped using it and went back to my Biore/Benefit/Clinique Combo, it started working better than ever! My face cleared up faster and now I have the tiniest amount of irritation on the apples of my cheeks (that can be contained by spot treatments of Differin or Clean & Clear) Every now and then I use the Differin like it was intended (to get my moneys worth I suppose or I could just be a masochist, ask my therapist.) But soothe my face with the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 and thats the end of that.
