Beginning in January, newlywed Ellen DeGeneres will appear in CoverGirl ads. In an official statement released today, a company spokesperson said, "Her beauty and down-to-earth personality fit perfectly with what CoverGirl represents." Ellen's low-key appeal may make her a much more modern and relatable CoverGirl than, say, Christie Brinkley. What do you think of this surprising pairing?

It's an unusual thought, and I'm usually not all that fond of the "real women" beauty ad campaigns (sorry--I'm a beauty purist Eye-wink ), but I do like this. It's a smart move on Cover Girl's part; it'll help appeal to more consumers.

I think it is odd.... I wouldn't picture Ellen as someone who wears makeup outside of her TV show. I think Portia would have been the better fit.

I guess she'll fit in with the group of women that like super natural makeup, to the point where it doesn't look like you're wearing any. I think it's a smart move to widen their demographic!

I definitely think it's an interesting move on Cover Girl's part, but probably very smart. A lot of women think that make up requires a huge time and monetary commitment which many don't have, so Ellen would probably that little can go a long way. You don't have to look like you have make up on to wear make up, just accentuate the positive, play down the not-so-positive.

I like this idea. It just shows that you don't have to be sexy to be beautiful. Congrats Ellen.

I like Ellen, but I thought it was kind of a weird choice. I don't see her as someone who wears a lot of makeup, and she doesn't really do the "glamorous" thing like Queen Latifa or a lot of their other spokesmodels.

Although she wouldn't nessecarily encourage me to buy makeup I think it's cool maybe they will reach a larger market and encourage inclusive advertisement.

i do think it's a bit surprising, but i love ellen and i agree.. she would appeal to other demographics that covergirl might be seeking. she's got the whole low-key, less is more thing with makeup, so i think it's a good move

I love it! I think it's a brilliant idea. moving away from the "idealized" beauty to someone more realistic/real is a great move.

I love it! Ellen is much more the type of beauty that most women are then say a model or big time actress.

Shut up!! I can't see her as the spokesmodel for a makeup company. That is just too weird. I might not buy their stuff anymore.
