After looking at some photos of myself circa 2000, it all came back to me. In the place where there were supposed to be two thick and shapely brows, there were two skinny and sparse remnants of hair. Just where did my naturally lovely eyebrows go? Well, my friend convinced me my eyebrows were too "bushy" and she attacked, tweezers in hand. I've never quite recovered from the trauma.
So, if you're in between waxing appointments or just want to keep things simple with some easy at-home maintenance, I've got a good way to shape them up, without cursing your friend out for the next year.

Take an eyeliner pencil (or anything with a straight edge), and use it as your guide. Please, whatever you do, don't over-tweeze!
- Step 1 — Where the brow should start: Line the pencil up parallel to the side of your nose, up to the inside of your eye. This is where the brow should start. If your eyebrow falls a little short, lightly draw in a line to fill in the missing hairs. If the brow is a little long, tweeze as needed.
- Step 2 — Where the brow should stop: Angle the pencil from the base of your nostril up to the outermost edge of your eye. This is where your brow should end. If your eyebrow falls a little short, lightly draw in a line extending outward with a brow pencil in a complementary shade. If it's a little long, tweeze excess hair as needed.
- Step 3 — Where the arch goes: Angle the pencil from the base of your nostril up to the outside edge of the iris (colored part) of your eye. This is where the highest part of your brow should be. Tweeze accordingly. Happy shaping!

The brows in the demo photos aren't arched. I'm still deciding between going arched or going "natural" (following the brow bone).
1mine are so sparse and pale, I can't do much shaping or there won't be anything left. sad!
2i am in the process of letting mine "grow out" from two years over compulsive over-plucking and i am ready to attack! trying to keep strong though, it has been 10 days since i have touched them at all! any pointers on this process?
3i read long ago that the highest part of the arch is supposed to line up with your pupil and nose.
4Hi all! I agree, this model doesn't have much of an arch — the black lines show you how set up the angles correctly to get the desired effect.
So, kas...when I grew mine out, I just tried to leave them alone for as long as possible (it was hard, but doable), only tweezing errant hairs. I also filled in any sparse spots with a brow pencil, using these tips above for my guide. Good luck!
5I was told to only tweeze the hairs are clearly outside your natural line of hair. Also to only tweeze from the bottom.
The best way to grow out eyebrows is to get bangs. You will never see your brows (nor will anyone else) so you won't have as much of an urge to pluck them
6I am sorry, but I'd rather leave this to the professionals. Last time I followed this basic guide was about 15 years ago. I ended up with eyebrows way to much apart because my eyes are not that close together. It took forever to grow it out! So, I go in for threading about once a month which costs me $22 and my eyebrows have never looked any better. I have people constantly asking me where I have them done so my aesthetician has gained many clients as a result...come to think of it maybe I should get a freebie once in a while.
7So spill Jello Wanabe and tell us who does your brows! I need a professional quick!
8I don't have thick brows so doing my own maintenance is pretty easy but I use to have this girl that did my brows and they always looked awesome. Im sad she moved.
9thanks so much!
10I just gave myself lopsided eye brows yester day *sigh* well at leas this will prevent a second incident
11I just find the middle, pinch the skin there to hold it up and tweeze any hairs that don't fit into that perfect arch shape that i just created. Always turns out fab!
I went to a "prefessional" once and, she tweezed like 10 hairs out a a time and it hurt like h#ll, I got all puffy and swoolled there for like 3days and she made my brows look like tammy faye. And then told me that was how theyr'e supposed to look. Never again!
She was probably just a bad example, though...
12isa that's what i thought too.
13Thanks for the info Bella.
14I still have nightmares about my sister tweezing my brows to death in highschool. it's been almost 10 years and they're JUST NOW starting to fill back in. I even had one makeup artist recommend I use rogain to get them to grow back ):
15I'm growing my brows out too, I used to have really thin brows and so far after 6 mos they still have sparse areas but I'm patiently waiting and once they are back fully it's off to a professional to have them done.
16My brows are sparse & blonde & you can't really even see them unless I fill them in with an angled brush & brown eyeshadow. The funny thing is that I get lots of compliments on my eyebrows!! I just smile and say "thank you" and I'm glad no one knows what they REALLY look like!
17Hi ladies, I don't follow this line of plucking either. I do it like this: http://teamsugar.com/group/88093/reviews/1858632 .
18Using a drawn white eyeliner pencil line to tell me where to pluck and which hairs I should leave alone. You can also get a stencil that can be used for filling in your brows and powder your eyebrows in a colour like red or purple and then pluck the hairs that aren't coloured.
I don't understand why people have so much trouble with their eyebrows - I have very mediocre eyebrows with no arch and medium fullness, but I just tweeze outside of the browline - is it really that difficult?
19I wouldn't trust anyone else with my eyebrows. I just tweeze them myself. Plus I would have no patience to wait in between appointments and have stray hairs.
20I don't think the bangs thing would work for me JessNess, I don't look good with bangs and then I'd be struggling to grow them out.
