Throughout her 15 or so years in the cosmetics biz, you might say Carmindy's picked up a thing or two along the way, and she's truly become the master of lifting spirits. In her latest book, Get Positively Beautiful: The Ultimate Guide to Looking and Feeling Gorgeous ($14.95), Carmindy dishes out advice like a girlfriend who knows all kinds of beauty tricks. She admits to not feeling so cute in her younger years (complete with awkward school photo) and details the moment when she said enough is enough.
So, stop wasting energy focusing on covering up what you don't like about yourself, she says. Zero in on your natural beauty, and you'll discover your best feature to accentuate instead. Yeah, it might sound relatively obvious, but there's just something about when Carmindy says it that makes it really stick.
Pep talk aside, the book is also full of the ins and outs of beauty, from seasonal makeup tips to colorful pictures (love it), to makeovers. (Who doesn't love a good makeover every now and then?) It's beefy enough for the advanced crowd, but written in a non-intimidating way for the beginners. Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone looking to learn about the basics of makeup to those who are looking for some nifty new tips — and to Carmindy fans, of course.

I really like her. Usually I love what she does on What Not to Wear.
1I love watching her on What Not to Wear. She does such an awesome job and has such a great attitude! I didn't know she had any books though, I will probably pick this one up.
2I really liked her first book on the 5 minute face. Is it bad that I just ordered it as soon as I saw bella's review and didn't wait to find it in a store to flip through first? Oh well, we can always use tips and tricks! I wished there was more of those in the first book, figured I just needed to wait for the second one!
3For a book about natural beauty, the author's photo on the cover sure looks like it has been overly photoshopped.
4I like her too, she's so cute and sweet.
5aylee, I have to agree with you.
6I prefer how she looks on the show, more natural. Obviously, until someone makes photoshopping the crap out of video the norm! Though when I was watching it the other day my husband commented on how different her face looks than her body. It looks like she wore a ton of sunscreen on her face but not from the neck down. It was a good reminder for me that I need to pay attention to more than my face!
She looks a lot like a younger version of Kim Catrell
7I totally loved her "5-Minute Beauty" book. As soon as I finished reading that first book, I put myself on the waiting list for this new book, even made a donation to my local library so they can buy a copy!
What I loved about the first book is she showed the basics done
simply (which could be "fancied up") and suggested products which are readily available. (Thank goodness for the local franchise drugstore LOL!) Makeup has always baffled me, and I am rather
clumsy to top it off, so the 5-Minute book was nice. This new book looks interesting.
8I love Carmindy! She has such a positive attitude on What Not To Wear. She's like a ray of sunshine!
