Jojoba oil is referred to as a vegetable oil, but it is actually a liquid wax that comes from the seed of the Jojoba, a shrub found in the Southwest. The oil is usually refined to be odorless and colorless.
When it became illegal in the United States to use sperm whale oil in 1974, funding was provided to investigate applications where Jojoba oil could take its place. Because Jojoba oil has a chemical structure that's very similar to sebum, it has a wide variety of cosmetic uses. Native Americans used the oil to heal wounds, protect the skin, condition the skin, and soften the scalp. The ingredient proved to have a wide variety of uses, from dissolving excess sebum from the scalp to protecting crops from white flies. Thanks for the info. One of my forever favorites is the Jojoba Oil line from Crabtree & Evelyn.
1Soften the scalp, eh? Sounds like something I could use!
2I was actually in the Health Foods store this morning and was looking at this
3I buy pure jojoba oil from Drugstore.com. Almost every day I rub a couple of drops between the palm of my hands and run it through the ends of my hair and then over the crown. It makes my hair all soft and silky, I love it.
4I'm with Moonlite. I treat the ends of my hair with jojoba oil, too. It's a lovely hair conditioner. It nourishes the hair without weighing it down.
5Ooh I love jojoba oil. I used it as a moisturizer when my skin was super dry in the winter and it worked quite well. Now i use it occasionally as a conditioner and it really makes my hair silky and soft.
6I LOVE jojoba oil. I use jojoba with tea tree oil on my face every day for my rosacea and I use it on my arms, legs and body after my shower as a moisturizer. I only use 100% pure organic and like the Wellspring Ecologics oil best. I'm going to try this on my hair too since others seem to like that and thanks!
