According to a recent study, British women change their look an average of 26 times during the span of their lives. That's a lot of makeover action.
For fun times, check out this one woman's photo-show trip through the past as she explores her own lifetime of makeovers. But, in the meantime, fill me in on your own experiences of change. Whether to build confidence or keep up with ever-changing trends, what's your magic number?

I've changed my look quite a few times, but since I'm only 20, it's under 10. I'm sure before I "go", I will have changed my look many, many times.
1I really haven't changed my look that many times at all, but am gearing up for a dramatic new haircut on Saturday!! Hopefully it will be a change for the better!
2ive never had the confidence to change my look. seriously, im 19 and i still look the same as i do when i was 8
3ive got a round face (lol im a bit of a fatty) and my hair is quite thick, straight, and is either just above shoulder-length and layered or long and shaggily layered.
im in desperate need of change. ive been to hairdressers and tried to discuss with them new styles but i always hate what i come out with. anyone want to appoint themselves as my personal beauty stylist and recommend me a few haircuts?
I think I pretty much go through a cycle with my hair. It'll be really long and then I cut it to my shoulders, then it grows again and then I cut it pretty short, and right now it's in the process of growing longer again. Same with hair color, too. Over the past two or three years I've added a lot of highlights and the other day I took my hair back to its natural color.
4It's been a few times, but I'm not sure if it even counts if you don't stick with it, and I never stick with any new look for long! Pretty much anything new I try with my hair ends up getting grown out and colored over, back the same old thing again. Fashion would probably say that I'm in a rut, but I call it a "set point"
Or even a "signature look" - ok, maybe I wouldn't go that far.
54 times just this year - not because of insecurity or to follow trends, but just because I get bored and it's fun!
6I'm not sure what counts as "changing my look" - I've never changed my hair color or basic hairstyle (not since leaving elementary school, anyway!), and I've only ever gone through two shifts in colorscheme - I went from brights (purple and blue, mainly) in middle school and early high school to black/red (think Spanish gypsy, not goth!) in later high school to a more golden-brown/neutral scheme in college. I'm pretty cool with the neutrals - they're more everyday-appropriate, you know? But I'm also learning to incorporate colors back into my makeup, and I've been known to do the whole Dita von Teese thing with bright red lips and a general pinup look, just for fun!
7I've changed my basic look (dyed my hair) somewhere around... 18 times. I've drastically changed it (sudden hair cuts, change of basic clothing style/makeup, etc) around 7. I'm barely 20. You could say I'm a bit of a chameleon
8I still have a lot more opportunities to change my look ...
9The only thing I've ever changed is my hair...got it cut, let it grow out, got it cut to the same length as before, let it grow out; is that 4? Four in 22 years...what can I say? I'm a creature of habit.
10I'm 20 and I've never drastically changed my look. In fact, I think the only major change I've had with my look was when I was 10 and I cut my hair until just under my ears. It looked HORRIBLE because I hadn't started using a hair dryer, so it was always frizzy and horribly not-quite-straight-not-quite-curly. I'm thinking of getting bangs though. I don't know how they'll work with my face, but I always think bangs make people look better, so hopefully they'll work?
11I'm still a teen so I've still got time to change my look. I've never had long hair before, I'm growing it now
12my hair is really curly so there isn't really all that much i can do with it...
13I'm in desperate need of a makeover. My style is easy to change, but not my over all look. That's what college does to ya!
14I've changed my look around 20 times. I'm only 19, or it'd be more, I think.
I like
to treat my hair as an accessory, so I've had it almost every color of the rainbow, and in more than ten different cuts. So much fun!
15very few... Now i´m a little bit older i wish i had tried more thing when i was a teen, like blue hair.
16God, I wouldn't even know when to start. The first time I changed my hair, I dyed it pink in middle school... and I'd say I've either cut or dyed it every 4-6 months since then and I'm 23 now. Right now, I'm rocking a black long-banged pixie.
173 or 4, maybe. I was a bit awkward in high school, then a bit too sexy in my early 20s, then there might have been another transition in there, and then how I am now.
18I'm 36 and my high school pals recognize me immediately, what does that say? But I'm very comfortable with my whole self...I wouldn't change much at all.
19Not enough times, actually. I still have to dye my hair before the end of this year.
20Does gaining weight count?
21Quite a few times, actually, but a lot of that has been the transition between growing hair out and lopping it off. It's shoulderish now, and I think it's time for a cut!
22A lot. My looks just evolve. I think it's because my tastes have changed.
People in high school do not recognize me. People in college do not recognize me. People in my last two careers do not recognize me. LOL. The funny part is that I recognize them!
Usually, their response is flattering. I've been told I aged very well.
Lately, my own mother is looking at me with new eyes. During the past year, I've been growing my hair out. Previously, I've sported a short hairstyle for several years. My hair is growing in thick and full, and she likes it. It makes me look very feminine. My Mom told me to "never" cut my hair. She wants me to grow it to an indefinite length. Uh, I'll see. So even now, due to my growing hair, my look is changing.
23I am 19, and I think I still look the same. Never dyed my hair or had any cool hairstyles I could do myself. Have had long hair my whole life, and I am thinking of getting it cut to shoulder length soon.
24I have never had really long hair. Right now I am trying to grow it out to donate to "Locks of Love". My husband would choke if I went back to the spikey look. Curly hair is something I always wanted and would get a perm. HAHA it is that way naturally now. Hormones can do miraculous things. Hair appointment on Tuesday.
25I answered 21-30, but now that I think about it I'm sure it's been more -- 21-30 since college. I do a complete overhaul on my look every 6 months or so, with 2 or 3 minor tweaks in the haircut or color patterns between. It might be an addiction. I am desperately trying to lock myself into bleach blond for the next year so that my next move can be recreating the look of my favorite pastel pink and white wig.
26Hardly, actually. Just one bad haircut in high school. Otherwise, I've always just let my hair do its own thing. Partly because people told me I shouldn't and that my hair is good the way it is...but also because I just don't have inspiration! I have no idea what would suit me, plus the bad experience in my teens has made me terrified of hairstylists altogether. The only makeovers I've had is in those virtual makeover-o-matics!
27mesayme... i'm very much w/you on that... people always recognize me, and because i so rarely make changes, when i do... everyone notices. i think my biggest changes have involved going from the 'big hair' to a more natural look.... i've dyed it dark (almost black) brown and have had bleached streaks in the front... and an allover lighter look. right now it's compeltely natural & i just got bangs cut... i hated them last week... this week... kinda liking them. an di've just been inspired to maybe go dark again.... (there's a coupla of "strays" mocking me)
28I've colored and cut my hair at leats 50x in my lifetime. It's been crazy!
29I'm always constantly changing my look. I like to play around with different colors, styles, and looks. Once in awhile I go from glam chick, to 50's glamour, rocker chick, and more. I just wear whatever I feel is comfortable at the moment or stylish. I also love to play with different hair styles and colors. Currently I'm growing my hair and it's dyed black. I'm wearing cat eye makeup, sleek black clothes, and light bronze lipstick.
3010 or less. I've always had either a blonde bob or blonde long hair. I keep thinking about doing a pixie cut a la Audrey Tautou but I always hear that men aren't attracted to women with short hair. And I'm afraid I would hate it and then spend 4 years growing it out!
31My look (not to mention my lifestyle/philosophies) changes depending on the guy I'm with. It happens kind of unconsciously, but if he's a suit, I find myself taking on lots of high-waisted pencil skirt/ blouse emsembles. Once I dated a complete pothead and spent weeks stuck in the grungy tank top-boyshorts phase.
32I've changed my hair 4-5 times
I layered it
33I put highlights in
I colored it purple (Kool Aid Purple, permanent)
I let it grow out
I cut it short and let it return to it's natural color.
I'm only 17 so it can't be changed that often
34have gone from brunette to a blonde to redhead in one year's time a couple of times... now sticking with my ash blonde look that is the best on me, even thoughi have naturally dark brown hair. i asked a lot of people what they like on me best and very light blonde wins.
