The warmer months are fast approaching, which means it's time for me to get out my Tarte Cheek Stain ($28). I initially bought this product out of mere curiosity— and, of course, as an excuse to add a new product to my arsenal. (Hey, I have lots of blush; why not buy some cheek stain too?)
But lately, I have become obsessed with this cheek stain as an alternative to blush. Yes, it can be a bit severe when you first dab it on, but the slight stickiness of this push-up gel actually makes it stay put much longer than powder blush. For the rest of my review, read more
I find this product particularly helpful in warmer weather or when I need to apply makeup in the morning and still have it looking good at the end of the night. For that reason, I'd imagine it would be great for brides on the big day, as DCStar suggests.
Tarte Cheek Stain goes on a bit heavy, so be gentle with your application. I get the best results when I apply this product after my foundation and powder. Just lightly dab the gel-stick on the apples and contours of your cheeks, then blend the edges with a makeup sponge. Just focus on the edges, though: Trying to smudge the color from the center will make it look splotchy.
I like the Flush shade (shown) because it's at once bold and natural. Have you guys tried this product? If so, what shade do you like? What do you think of it?

i like blushing bride, but it's the only one i've tried yet.
1i have the holiday pack from 2006. i love all of them. each one works for different occasions.
2i'm not brave enough for cheek stain...i barely even use powder blush!
3i am soooo obsessed with these...my favorite is flush.
4I have seen this product for over a year now and I have been too afraid to try it - but from the reviews above, I think I just might. Good Job Bella!
5so which is the better cheek stain benetint or tarte? i've heard good things about both, so i don't know which one to try first.
6i used benetint and i really like it!
7I have it in Tickled and I lurve it!
8Girls I've read that it feels sticky on the skin, is it true? I'm soooo curious about it!

9im also curious about how this product stands up to the benetint
10we agree with audreystar (p.s., love the jem reference), benetint is another cheek/lip stain.
11I love Tarte! I bought some in Flushed after I read about it in FabSugar a couple months ago. It's not sticky at all. If feels great on bare (moisturized) skin and blends perfectly over foundation.
It looks incredibly natural--even on my darker skin tone.
12i like tarte more than benetint, i think the only real noticable difference is the smell. when you first put it on it feels a bit sticky, but that goes away really soon. it also lasts a looong time
13I've used Benetint and Tarte Cheek Stains. I like the Tarte better (flush is my favorite shade). It blends more easily and comes in more shades. The bold red of the Benetint looked clownish on my fair skin. Plus, you need to work very very quickly to blend the Benetint or you'll end up with little red dots on your cheeks instead of a healthy glow. Tarte is easy to use and you can layer it if you want a stronger look.
14I just couldn't spend almost $30 on it...i go the Sonia Kashuk version from Target even though I'm a department store make-up girl at heart. I'm pretty happy with the SK. Maybe if I had a gift card I would splurge on the Tarte.
15I bought the mini trio, the tints come in Tipsy (a lovely and very natural light pink), True Love (a bold watermelon pink), and Glitzed (pink with gold glitter). I am loving all of them!! A little really goes a long way so I guess it was a good value for 30$.
16The Tarte stain is pretty pricey, but you don't use that much of it each time, so it's actually a pretty good investment b/c one of those stains will probably last you a while.
17I'm probably the only person who doesn't like the Tarte Cheek Stain!! To me, it feels too sticky, thick. It might be better for those with drier skin? I prefer Benetint; I love the color even moreso than any Tarte, on my skin. But you do have to work quickly (I use a foundation brush to get a great finish on it).
I DO like the Tarte Cheek Stain on my lips though!!!
18Hm, I always put it on under my powder. I'll try it the other way around and see how I like it. I use Flush, and being South Asian, my skin is medium tan--it's still such a lovely color.
19I adore this product. I was never a fan of the powder blush, so I initially went with benetint, which I still use on my lips, but it was way too messy and splotchy on my pale skin. Dollface is ideal: idiot-proof (cause c'mon, who's really that awake in the morning?), fantastic for pale skin, and natural but noticeable. I couldn't live without it.
20I don't think I could make this work on me. lol
21I've been meaning to try this one. I have been Origins "Pinch your cheeks" cheek stain for years. I love its staying power.
22I'm still kind of scared of cheek stain. Baby steps, baby steps.
23palesugar, you recommend dollface for fair skin? I'd like to try this but I want to make sure I get a color that'll work on me-- red hair, blue eyes, pretty fair. if anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!
24For me, the jury is still out on this product. I bought two different colors, Tickled and also Tipsy. I like the colors, but can't seem to get used to the stickiness of the product. I usually put a little powder blush over it to try to reduce that sticky feeling. Personally, I prefer Benetint for a check stain...I apply it with a sponge one cheek at at time and blend quickly before it has a chance to dry.
25Ok, I'll jump on it and I'll review it. Dropstar I trust your word that it is not sticky

26I LOVE this product ....It lasts forever, both on and because you only use a small amount, the amount of product that you get for your money is great. I have had the same one for years, so long that I can't even tell what shade I have anymore because the writing has worn off of the container. I recently purchased o-glow by Smashbox, and it has taken a bit of getting used to, and I still think that I prefer the Tarte over the smashbox.
Ace- you might want to give the o glow a try as you start with a small amount and you rub it in and then keep adding until it turns the proper color for your skin tone. It has worked great for me and for my mom (who ALWAYS has a hard time finding the right blush...but also it took alot of convincing to get her to try this!)
27I also LOVE this product. I actually got the limited edition set of three from sephora, and I love each of them. It's got great texture and is easy to rub in, so it looks more natural - like I'm just a little flushed!
28yayy i love tarte cheek stain. it's my favorite!
29Ace,
I really love Dollface for pale skin. I have reddish-brown hair with blue eyes, and it really works. It picks up a natural pinkness in this skin and enhances it, plus the pink always seems to make my blue eyes pop. You can always go to the makeup counter and play with the colors if you like. Plus, a little goes a long way, especially on fair skin.
30Darn it.I've been lemming these like crazy for a while now.Looks like I may have to get one of them after all.
31I'm not a fan of the Tarte - I've got medium-fair skin and some freckles, and the BeneTint is the best product I've come across for my skin tone.
32I loooove Tart cheek stains!! It is so easy to blend and gives you such a flused, dewy look. I would recommend it to anyone. Don't be afraid, it is so fun and great for those days when all you need is a little mascara and pink cheeks.
33ive got true love, flush, blushing bride, and glitzd. I LOVE THEM ALL SOO SO MUCH. theyre great for lips as well...just put some on, wait for it to dry a bit, and put on your fave clear gloss on top! itll look like youve just eaten a popsicle(in a good way)! plus, they smell so good that my boyfriends always trying to figure out what it is that im wearing that smells so yummy haha.
34thanks for your help, palesugar and juicygirl!
35Hmm, I might try it, if I stop by Sephora sometime I'll check it out. I'm still a little worried about it, will it get oily?
36I'm in a wedding and June and was thinking about buying this so I'd have a lasting color throughout the day.
37I've used Flush on my mom. She also wanted a natural blush that was long lasting. I would actually recommend applying this between layers of foundation and power. Apply the foundation first, next a gel-like blush (like this one), and the look will be more natural and the products will blend better into one another. If you apply the cream/gel on top of a powder it may cake up and be hard to blend out because it may get stuck in the powder. Also, the powder can be used to set the stain as well as your foundation for even more stability and longevity!
38I adore this product! It really does last and last! I'll have to try flush next
39added to my sephora wish list! anything that has long lasting power interests me

40I have tried it but it never seems to look right
41i LOVE this stuff. it might be sticky for a few minutes, but it dries in less than 10. and you seriously cannot put too much on. AND a tube lasts forever - i threw my last one out after six months b/c of germs, but it wasn't even 1/2way used - and i use it every single day.
i used tickled for a while and loved it, and now i'm using tipsy, which is so great. perfect for summer and playing up a bit of a (bottle) tan. btw, i'm pale, with blonde hair and blue eyes.
i definitely would vote this one over benetint - which i actually used for years until i discovered tarte.
42Looks like something I would EAT
43i need to try this product, i love blush and have had my eye on this for over a yr!!!!!
44i recently purchased the limited edition trio @ sephora out of curiosity and i LOVE this stuff... this is my first time using the stain.. my favorite thing to do is use two of 'em at the same time, mainly either tipsy or true love, and then top it off with glitzed! it has more color and using glitzed over it adds more glow.. has anyone else ever tried this? i can't wait to try the other colors

46I just got it and I love it. I got heavy handed with the Flush and I was asked why was my face red. Opps. I will apply less next time.
47I've never tried cheek stain, I'm afraid I would mess it up!
48I bought Flush two years ago - and even though I use it at least once a day, I still have almost half the stick left. It really goes a long way - though I'm afraid now that the product is expired! I haven't noticed any acne or anything like that though.
I only use a little bit - its the only kind of blush I've ever liked. I hate the powders and creams, they don't last and don't look as natural as this. I don't think its sticky at all either! I don't apply it to my face direclty from the tube though (like a lipstick), I pat my fingers on the top and then blend it into my cheeks, adding a little at a time to get it perfect.
