When you think of Jennifer Lopez's beauty, you probably think about her famously glowing skin or fragrance empire. That might change now that she's jumping on the celebrity black nail polish bandwagon. Proving that dark polish really is here to stay, she's been wearing Dior Vernis polish ($19) in Black Sequins. The silver-flecked black is more glam than goth, and if you prefer gold over silver, get a similar look with this double-layered manicure.
If you're going to go dark for Fall, a few tips will make your polish go on smoothly and last longer. First, be sure to soak your hands and push cuticles back; this should help you keep paint on the nail bed rather than on cuticles. Always use a base coat to avoid any yellowing from the dark polish, and clean your nails twice when it's time to remove the color.

I have many colors of bold colors in nail polish and wear them at my fancy. When the media links a color or thing to a celeb it is at times a turnoff. After all, I have been happily wearing my black polish as a mood and personality choice without a celeb link to it.

10I'm with those who've tried it and it just didn't look right. I love the dark colors for fall, but lately I've been sporting a dark brown, OPI's I'm Fondue You.

12Ack. I had a bad experience with my first attempt at nail polish (it was orange and from a Barbie kit, we'll leave it at that), and have been scared to go back since-that was about 8 years ago. My friend keeps trying to convince me, but it's just not me. Anyway, unless it it done in an extremely classy way, black always seems goth to me.
