Hair waxes are the greatest invention for those of you with short hair that like to go for the chunky, piecey look. They are a cross between gel, mousse, and hairspray, allowing hair a medium hold with pliability. Genius, I say. Let me know what you think of these three styling hair waxes.
Bumble and Bumble Styling Wax ($23) is a styling product that helps separate and hold. Since it contains silicone, it also adds a fair amount of sheen to the hair. Because the wax stays moist, your hair will be more malleable than if you applied a hairspray or gel.
It also rinses out easily in just one washing and won't cause build up. Just click on Bumble's website to find a retailer nearest you that carries this product.

Pantene Pro-V Texturize! Spray Wax ($3.33) adds definition to your 'do, while still allowing movement and shine. You can use it on either dry or damp hair: Simply shake well, spritz, and mold hair any way you like!
Paul Mitchell Spray Wax ($18.35) is made from all-natural beeswax, which provides a satiny and soft finish while still creating a soft hold. Hair is left feeling pliable and texturized. It also smells really great!

I used to use the Bumble & Bumble when I had short hair. It worked great but I hated how slimy and gross the container would get. No matter what I did, the wax got everywhere and it was hard to wipe off.
1i just don't think my hair type would work well with waxes.
2other great styling waxes/muds:
sebastian molding mud
x-tah crude clay modeler
and the original cheap-o heavy-duty hold wax, murray's original styling pomade.
the best for short hair
3I use this bumble and bumble wax every day and I love it. The container DOES get gross though and never, never leave it where it can get warm. What a mess!
4i like aveda's control paste though i'm not sure it is really a wax
5I'm a fan of the cheapo Fruictus drugstore wax. $6.00, it's a total score, it gives my short red hair the right amount of punch and it smells great.
6Davine's works well for thick, coarse hair like mine.
7When my hair was short I was a wax JUNKIE. My favorite smelled like melon.
8I am wax dependent
i have curly hair and especially when I straighten it I need the
wax badly
9Good to know, thanks. I've loved wax ever since I chopped my hair off a year or two ago. Even now, as I grow my hair out, wax is the best for managing my waves (and frizz).
10Oh yes, also, for those of you who suffer from frizzy hair, try Bumble & Bumble defrizzer (anti-frizz?). It's clear liquid in a little bottle. It's great.
I also just saw the other two products above. I have that Paul Mitchell spray wax and it's good, but it can get really greasy looking. I spray a tiny amount on my fingers first, and then work it through my hair. But I don't recommend getting too close to your roots; when I say greasy, I mean looks like you haven't showered in a week, greasy.
11I LOVE styling wax! It makes look more "styled"...kinda hard to do when you barely have any. I have actually been looking for good ones lately. Thanks for the suggestion.
12I like the sound of it, but I don't think I'd know how to use it.
13I just recently cut all of my hair off (ten inches, enough for a locks of love discount) and so I had to amp-up my hair supplies to fit my new style. I really love Aveda's Defining Whip from their Light Elements line. At first I was upset that the product cost more than my haircut did, but now that I've been using it for a while I'm realizing that not only is the product great (awesome hold, nice texture, VERY light, easy to use) but also it is economical. The container holds quite a lot of the product and I only use an itsy bit when I do my hair. I would totally recommend it.
14i love to use styling wax when i rock the pompadour! it keeps my short-ish bangs from falling down, but it isn't crunchy like hairspray.
15I loved hair wax! I cut my hair last summer and I loved how pliable it made my hair! It was extremely managable and gave it a nice, wet look without being frozen solid. Although, I'd never used any of the ones listed. First I went with KMS's gelwax but switched over to using The Body Shop's coconut hair shine which is a wonderful mixture of coconut oil and community trade organic beeswax from Zambia. I loved the fragrance and it conditioned my hair well!
But, I've grown out my hair again so I don't bother wiht the wax. I still have a can just in case I do an "impulse cut" though!
