How about blondes — do they make better girlfriends? Well, yes and yes. At least that's what the results of a new survey say. According to British hairstylist Andrew Collinge, whose company polled 3,000 men, "When it comes to marriage, men seem to opt for brunettes as they see them as more dependable and down-to-earth."
We've all heard the expression that blondes have more fun, and in this case, that means more dates, but does it also mean a walk down the aisle? Survey says. . . no. In fact, more than half of the blokes said that brunettes were marriage material due their dependable and sensible natures.
Let's get real, though: This type of thinking is antiquated. We all know it's really what's on the inside that matters (at least that's what mama always said). And as Collinge so wisely advises, "At the end of the day, men marry a person, not just a head of hair." I've got to agree with that — so what's with these surveys in the first place? Can we talk about REDHEADS, too? I know that we're a minority, but what do the surveys say about us? I also think it's important to note that REAL blondes are not common, either. So really, most women are brunette anyways. Hmm.
1Maybe it's the idea that blonds are ditzy (Which, isn't true, I know some very smart blonds.) I honestly don't think the hair color is what really makes a guy decide they want to marry some one or not.
2I would hope that men and women are thinking about more than hair color and other superficial things that won't make a marriage last. And I've known blonds who don't fall under the ditzy bubbly giggly clique.

10I think people are still tied up to the ideia that girls who die their hair blonde are superficial. That they're the ditzy giggly cliché. Since there are very few natural blondes, I think the study is not referring to those.

12I am a brunette and am still brunette and so will support this survey! And I will also comment that I think more girls tend to go blond when they are not a natural blond than vice-versa.
13If you cancel out the bottle blonds there aren't that many to even do a poll. I think it depends on the reason they decided to go blond in the first place. It's not the hair color, it's the attitude now that they have that hair color. Some act like they won the lottery "oh now you're gorgeous and on top of the totem pole of all women? you're still the same person."

the poll is pretty silly. I mean, their aren't many "natural" blondes anymore; just chemical ones so that can effect the survey results, unless they checked to find out the natural hair
colors of the women

20This is such a crock. Even if it were true, haircolor is so interchangable these days. Nobody knows whose color is real and whose comes from a box.
21quitecontrary it's funny you mention that because I remember my dad and I once having a discussion where he told me that past toddler-hood there's no such thing as a natural blonde. Since i was studying in California I just laughed and told him of course there were, I knew a few! But I asked all my friends who I was convinced were natural and turns out not a single one was! Most had been blonde as babies and now got highlights or fully dyed their hair. And of course there were the obvious fake platinum blondes. To this day I've never met a fully natural blonde, maybe it's a phenomenon restricted to nordic countries?

If you're naturally blond it makes no sense, but if you dye your hair blond, as most women do, there maybe a vanity aspect that plays a role in this assumption. Now obviously some women realize they look good as a brunette and are just as vain, but overall blond hair is work to keep up and it may say something about your priorities in life and where you are at. Also plenty of women conform to the idea that blond looks best and will go to an expensive salon to get the right color, despite whether blond actually is best and that may speak of their intelligence, independence of thought, and esteem.
Or men could just be caught up in the stereotype...who knows

24I totally agree with jessiebanana and diorbaby. It is just a stereotype. Although I don't know that many natural blonds, and I had super blond hair when I was little. But I do like brunette hair better. There are only a few shades of blond that I really like.
25This is interesting because I actually read a different study a while ago that said men saw brunettes as exotic and sensual and would therefore prefer to have a fling with a brunette and marry a blonde, who were considered more motherly and wife-y. They cited that most ads for things like chocolate, ice cream, coffee and sensual things feature brunettes, and most ads for cleaning products and home products feature blondes.
I'm not saying I buy it, and this was a while ago that I read it, but I thought it was interesting. Maybe it's a difference between Brits and Americans? Or maybe it just means that both studies are fairly baseless and pretty unnecessary.

28Umm...I think it's all in the guys' heads. They "think" blonds are more fun. They "think" brunettes are more committed. We need a double-blind test with reliable measurements for indicators here, people.

I really take offense to one person in particular - I won't mention any names - ahem, achoo, cough, SKIGURL, but you had some pretty sad comments about blondes in the "Do blondes have more fun" forum too. I guess you must be perfect. All of your comments are negative, how sad. And, why do you use a BLONDE in a martini glass for your avatar???????? I don't believe in these studies, but I do have to speak up when someone just emits negativity in every comment I have read of hers.
30I think men are smarter than we give them credit for. I am sure they are smart enough to see the beauty of a woman inside and out. If she is intelligent and happens to be blonde - great. Brunette and smart - great. Redhead and smart - Fab. Some men, I am sure, don't care about looks and want a sincere, loving, compassionate partner.
