I know that teens today take prom way more seriously than when I was in high school. I've heard tales from everything from designer gowns and lavish pre-prom pampering to reservations at the most sought-after restaurants. But this is just totally ridiculous: According to the New York Post, some wealthy high schoolers are getting Botox and lip injections in preparation for prom. According to the story:
Dr. Lewis Feder said two teens came to his Fifth Avenue office for some pre-prom primping that included Botox between the eyes.
"They both had very hyperactive muscles," said the Fifth Avenue doctor. "We gave them each half a syringe, and the muscles are smooth and beautiful."
He said he has also given three other girls — two from Westchester and one from Manhattan — Restylane injections for artfully fattened lips that cost about $600 each.
"Their parents authorized me," he said.
Given, three teens does not a trend make, and the Post is probably blowing it out of proportion a bit. But I still find it pretty horrifying that teens would be getting Botox. What do you guys think?

Why would they need botox in their teens? I'm nearing 30 and am still line-free. Are they chain smokers? Addicted to tanning from the age of 5? Suffering from some early aging disorder?
Sounds like Dr. Feder is the very epitome of the sleazy plastic surgeon stereotype.
1ACK! That's really no good. Just because they have parental permission doesn't mean they should. Shoot just watching Super Sweet 16 on MTV can show you how powerless parents can be. Prom is overrated anyway. Now that I look back on it, I don't think the whole ordeal was worth all the worry and money.
2positively disgusting
3Man, that's horrible...I live in NY, and I know from experience that especially around NYC and Westchester, the kids can be extremely vain. So I'm not too surprised.
Doesn't make it right, though.
4I work in a laser clinic that offers botox and cosmetics fillers but it is something I don't think I can ever support, no matter what the age of the person is. Botox is so impure and toxic, and even though dermatologists will convince you that the side effects are low, it is basically injecting poison into yourself. I would rather age naturally and take care of my skin now (sunscreen every single day ladies) then pay for it later and feel like I would have to go to such extreme measures.
5wow, its not the kids...its the parents. i cant believe there are parents who would allow their kids to do this but they probably cant say anything because they are full of botox themselves.
6I think that's ridiculous, but I don't see the big deal because these girls will wind up becoming the Jocelyne Wildensteins of their generation anyhow. However, in my neck of the woods many girls religiously visit tanning salons beginning in January so they have that Brittny Gastineau color by Prom night. I eschewed that, mainly because if I wanted to age prematurely, then I wouldn't have quit smoking, not that smoking's safer, but I would've preferred to do that over tanning. However, those girls are going to wind up looking like they belong in a leather store if they keep it up.
7gross.
8they just burned about half of their brain cells.
no more money when they are 77, because they have no brain cells to think how to make money.
have fun killing yourselves!!
Not good if they have to start this early.
9I think it's sad. I also think that the doctor has no business doing this, even with parental approval.
10Wow, SO unnecessary! I could see going in to get a great facial, but Botox isn't needed for girls that young. That's so ridiculous.
11That is beyond disturbing - what kind of parents must they have?
Return the shoes? I can't talk to you when you're hysterical.
12Nomerz, I wonder if people actually READ the box that says Botox is made from Botulism toxins, which is generally considering not good to get!
Return the shoes? I can't talk to you when you're hysterical.
13The real reason not to get botox is that it makes certain treatments against stroke (later in life) less effective. And I would most definitely want my stroke treatment to be as effective as possible rather than have temporary cosmetic gain.
14that is SO insane! I'm a teen and I'v never thought about getting botox at my age becuase you don't get wrinkles at my age!! I have never seen another teen with crows feet or lines around there lips. that just totally weirds me out!
15Unbelievable. I don't know if it's more disturbing that there are doctors performing these injections or parents giving permission!
16god! prom is a big deal (hair, nails, eat nothing but fruit, etc.) but botox?! what od they have to hide? and what are their parents thinking?
17I'm 22 and I don't any wrinkles!... this is so ridiculous!, can't believe how the parents gave them permission!
18This is so heartbreaking. Teens need botox? Since when? And poo on the parents for allowing it.
19i wudnt be surprised.. i knew grls in my highschool who got their noses & boobs done.. seems lik parents r jus as superficial as today's kids.. very sad
20goodness...this is such a sad reflection on our culture...teenage girls don't need botox, though admittedly they may need help in the future due to an inane addiction to tanning beds it's so unnecessarly superficial and sad to think that they feel the procedure necessary and that they believe it makes them more attractive...i'm 18 and i can't imagine going in for botox, it seems completely unnecessary and the mark of a budding narcissist
21being young myself (my senior prom was last year) i just find this absolutley absurd. i cant think of one of my friends that is even close to needing botox. and like everyone else said, what is wrong with their parents?! my parents would laugh in my face if i told them i want their permission to get botox
22How sad! Obviously, the parents put a lot of pressure on these 'kids' and they feel they have to do it to stay beautiful. I don't know much about Botox but I wouldn't imagine it would be something to do on young and healthy skin.
23Is World going nuts?
24i think its scary girls my age are getting it, but i also get that even tho people think its the naive girls who are only affected by the 'looking perfect all the time' i think it affects everyone, and i guess because celebs get botox and we look up to them we think its ok
25my parents would laugh at me if i said i wanted it, plus im terriefied of needles
26Nothing surprises me anymore, and parents are way to willing to blow money on pointless luxeries just to please their daughters. Case in point: My Super Sweet Sixteen. I've watched enough episodes of that (guilty pleasure) to see that anything is possible with these girls.
27I believe wrinkles are beautiful, it defines your character, your wisdom. I would never put that in my body, (and I am deathly afraid of needles!) Bring it on world, Im looking forward to it! ::WOO::
28:woo:
29Wow, it is so sad that girls that young would consider doing this for prom! And even worse that they had parents who allowed it/payed for it.
30how horrible must a child's self esteem be to get botox at 16! What message are parents giving their children when they authorize something like this!!! Sick.
31Horrifying is an understatement.
Those parents need their heads examined.
Those doctors need a lesson in ETHICS.
Those kids are just the victims of this culture.
It's disgusting what we've turned our little girls and teenagers into. Tramped up little sexpots.
32That's terrible! I remember watching a commercial the other day, it was hinting that even young skin is aging, which it is, but its NORMAL and that doesnt mean we all need to be going out buying anti-aging junk! I was/am disgusted.
33Yes, I think this is soo soo disturbing. I wish parents still knew how to raise their kids. Instead, kids today are so spoiled that even when it comes to physical appearance, they think they should be able to pay any price for what they want; liposuction instead of working out, botox instead of becoming comfortable with themselves. I know of too many people in this situation.
34Wow, botox and lip injectios for Prom? I can't imagine what's on the menu for a wedding. Those parents need some serious counseling.........
35Verily there are things other than smoking that can cause wrinkls and premature aging. I am only 19 and I am starting to see a few wrinkles on my forehead, and I would get botox if I had the money. I do not smoke, drink, or go in the sun, and some people still look better than I do, haha it pisses me off.
I agree that it does seem very rediculous that surgeons actually allow 16 year olds to get botox, even if the parents give permission, they should have laws for these types of things.
36this is frightening! How young do you want to look?
37just wrong
I'm having a sort of a prom in two weeks, I'm saying that because what we have as a
prom here is a little the different from what u guys have
and I really don't get
them , at such an early age this is just wrong
if they could inject some brain and personality
they wouldn't need the botox , maybe I'm mean but this is how I feel
38This is ridiculous. I think celebrity obsession really plagues and brainwashes teenagers.
39That is absolutely insane... this is getting out of hand.
I'm all for botox.. I'm 25 and I have begun to use it just on the fine lines in my forehead and I love it.
But, these girls are still kids! There is no way they have wrinkles yet! I think its sick that these parents condoned it too.. they are just enabling these girls' lack of self esteem.
40give me a break! That's ridiculous. Imagine what these girls are going to look like when there forty? plastic.
41Well...my dad is a cosmetic surgeon and used to do botox/lipo/laser all the time until he retired. I got botox really young b/c it is a lifesaver for tension headaches (get injections in forehead and neck) - but he would never do it that young on anyone for wrinkles or cosmetically. Also its great for super sweaty people - but bottom line is really - do what makes you feel good and unless you are one of those people that is obsessed with all the surgery (which doctors SHOULD be able to spot and suggest counseling) then really its about what makes you happy.
42Okay if people are getting crows feet and wrinkles at 16 & 17 they have a major problem! We need to be sending more psoitive messages to teens. As people have said it will be sad if it turns into an obsession.
43dude thats just TERRIBLE~ kids need to enjoy being kids, and i'm not that old to be saying it~!! botox? wtf, boob jobs at 16, botox for prom, whats next~ a sugar daddy at 12..? its just effed up, just plain effed up especially since their parents encourage these activities~!!!!!! ugh, i'm quite disgusted.. here's to a whole world more of the paris hiltons..
44that's out of control! What is with teens today? it's ridiculous!
45I wonder how their pictures turned out. I mean, they couldn't even smile because their faces wouldn't move. Totally insane.
46This is absolutely disgusting, I can't even believe that parents would authorize this!
47if people that young are already getting botox what hope is there for those who are older?...
48i think that girls that age probably dont understand what exactly botulinum is, and it just seems like a facial treatment more than anything else..
49also, im not a person who judges others who partake in plastic sugrery, i mean within reasonable limits, if it makes you feel good, why not? if it makes you feel great and makes you feel an extra OOMph, go for it.
Plastic surgeons are warping our society. They should say No to this foolishness. No one knows yet what the long term effect of this toxin will be. I never knew any teens with wrinkles. That's why they put them in the adds for everything in fashion and makeup. I guess they will start doing lipo, giving breast implants, and botox to children under 12 with parents permission just because they have low self esteem. Where do you draw the line?
