OK, I confess. I used to use soap as a shaving cream. After less than stellar results — and a rapidly depleting supply of Band-Aids — I've changed my ways.
Lately I've been loving Philosophy Razor Sharp Shaving Gel ($18). It's got much better slip, and it isn't quite as drying as the ol' bar of soap routine. What's your shaving preference?

I usually use men's Edge shave gel in the sensitive skin/unscented variety. I started doing that when my boyfriend moved in just so we could share and there was less stuff in the shower.
I'm still a fan of good old fashioned Barbasol. I know it's for dudes, but nothing gets you a closer shave. I usually just steal my boyfriend's....
I've recently started using hair conditioner as shaving cream and I love it!
I use conditioner a lot, too.
I, too, use mens shaving cream... my reason though, which is strange, is because every single time i use a female gel or kind i break out in a rash or get blotchy skin... yeah... weird.. so then i go around smelling like man all morning until i lotion the crap out of my legs to de-funk the man smell. hahaha
i use conditioner as well. i buy the cheap bottle for like 2 dollars or something it lasts so much longer than shaving cream.
I buy cheap hair conditioner (the kind I wouldn't put in my actual hair) specifically for shaving. Works better than any cream, gel, or lotion I've tried and is SO much more economical!
I use body wash, usually Aveeno Postiviely Smooth. But last time I needed some they didn't have that at Target so I bought Suave body wash instead, but that's been working nicely, too.
I use soap. Does it really make much of a difference either way? I guess I never compared.
le romantique I am the same way. I have to use men's razors too. I have found that Olay body wash with she butter works really well and it leaves me skin really soft.
I just use my bath soap.
I haven't really tried any others. I don't shave my legs as often as I should... :/
I use my DOVE Ribbons Body wash b/c it gives a rich lather and leaves my legs soft. On the back of the bottles it suggests its use as a shaving aid.
I mean Olay
CONDITIONER
I use gel, but if i'm in a hurry (which seems to be the case almost daily) I just shave with soap
BABY OIL!!!!!!!!!!!
On a summer vacation I discovered the best way to shave. After rubbing myself with baby oil in order to tan, I later took a shower and shaved and realized that it was the best shave I ever had. Ever since, I have been rubbing baby oil on my legs before I step into the shower to shave. It leaves my legs super soft and a feeling of waxing my legs. It's the best. I recommend it to everyone!
I use Skintimate shave gel and shave lotion. Love it!
I use a coconut shaving cream by Alba Botanica. I love it because it doesn't lather...it's super-moisturizing, much more so than the traditional, lathering shave gels that you get at the drugstore. It's inexpensive too and leaves my legs so soft. The smell is amazing too!
I use the Squeaky Pink shower/shave gel, which is essentially body wash. It does pretty well, not as much glide as I normally like, but I have a stash of regular old Venus cartridges that I need to use up before I can go back to my Venus Breeze, which needs no lather!
moisturizing body wash is great, very rich and thick. regular, uncreamy body washes are terrible, ouch.
aveeno positively smooth shave gel. its the best.
i would never spend 18 on a shave gel! its skintimate or satincare shave gels for me!
I use baby oil. Leaves my skin feeling so soft.
when I first started to shave I always used gel, since I had always heard that it was better than soap. but when I was 18 (about 5 years later), I switched to soap. I still remember at my graduation a couple of my friends telling me how they used soap and it was so much more comfortable and it left their legs super smooth and soft. I changed right away and have not gone back since. I don't understand why everyone bags on soap - I never cut myself and I prefer it over anything else...
I just use a really moisturising soap like Dove + a good quality razor and I'm set. No rash, no bumpcs, no nicks, no cuts - works perfectly.
I use Skintimate gel that turns to a rich lather. It's inexpensive and helps me get a close shave.
My favorite thing to use is a sugar scrub. It gives an amazingly close shave. I don't use it every time I shave, though. Not really sure why.
I use shaving cream for guys, because it's much foamier than ladies' shaving gel. It smells kind of masculine, and as a single girl I kind of like it.
i use skintimate foaming gel it doesn't irritated my skin and no bumps.also it smells great, especially the berry one.
Gel. My hair is so light that without it I'm left with weird patches of hair down my legs
I'm horrible at shaving. Plus I like the feeling of my legs after I use gel. So silky smooth!
I don't use anything.
My skin isn't sensitive to shaving so I just use my Dr. Bonners body wash
I never used anything but water in the past, but I now use the Intuition (with the built in block of moisturizing stuff). I shave every day, but I'm lazy when it comes to lathering.
Sometimes I don't use anything, sometimes I take oil
I like to use something foamy, so usually it's Skintimate Gel
I like Skintimate Gel when I actually use a regular razor. Normally I use the Venus Breeze with the shave gel bars, so I don't need to lather. It cuts so much time off!
I've been using conditioner to shave my legs with for years!
I use a moisturizing, foaming, whipped soap. The best is Cremoso's (on Etsy) Butter Me Up! Bath Ice Cream.
I use Alba shave cream, and I love it. Better than my older stuff.
Never tried conditioner though, I'll give that a try
i've used a little bit of everything. right now i'm using body wash as i am so forgetful when i need to pick up toiletries, but generally i use gel. when i am in a pinch, conditioner will do but i usually use pretty expensive conditioner so unless i have a free sample size/my husbands i won't really use it.
If I run out of shaving gel, I will use conditioner, but my conditioner is more expensive than my shaving gel, so I try not to do that!
i love Trader Joe's honey mango shave cream.
I hate foam, it leaves my legs dry and itchy. I prefer Gel, it works wonders. But, conditioner works too.
I use the Schick Intuition with the built in soap for sensitive skin and it is amazing, I couldn't live without it.
I will have to try the baby oil thing because I accidently bought the ones that aren't for sensitive skin and the fragrance burns my legs and I get razor burn.
I use hair conditioner most of the time but I also love shaving gel.
I'm with Dino Dino, conditioner all the way. It makes the surface super smooth and easier to shave than a shaving cream/gel/foam
I'm gonna try conditioner next time, I never thought about using it for shaving...
I use moisturizing conditioner. It leaves my legs feeling very smooth and is a lot cheaper than any of the "real" shaving gels or creams (and usually smells better, too).
I use gel....the really good smelling gel.
Hair conditioner.
