For Halloween, I was supposed to be the crafty prom dress-sewing Molly Ringwald from Pretty in PInk, but plans fell through. Although I was kinda bummed, at least I'm all set for Halloween 2009, right? When I was browsing for the perfect shade of lipstick to complete my '80s ensemble, I also didn't want to break the bank in the process. So when I came across N.Y.C, I was a little skeptical, but the price was right.
I made a quick purchase of the brand's Ultra Last Lip Wear in Mauve Gold (412B) ($1.99), and wouldn't you know? It's now one of my new go-to shades.
Is it long-wearing? No. Do I think it would be flattering to many? You bet. While the shade's name might suggest purple tones, this one is more of a pink, but not in bubblegum kind of way. With a hint of gold glimmer and a touch of neutral brown, this cheapie lip color is great on its own, or layered under a nude liner. I'll see ya next year, Halloween costume:

3.1 Phillip Lim
Celine
She is just plain ugly.
1Ok I admit it I am a closet N.Y.C. fan and used my "Sugar Plum" 418B lipstick this morning.(A little more plum than the mauve) Sure, it lasts about a half hour but the color is so awesome!
2I used to be all about NYC lippies.. but then I discovered Revlon ColorStay.
3Where did you ever find that dress!
4I like the nail polishes from NYC
5I don't like my lip color to last. Is that just me? I remember when those long lasting lipsticks came out. I was like 7 and I couldn't get over how bizarre it sounded, it was like car paint for you mouth
. Anyways my lips are dry enough and any lip gloss or stick is going
to have to double as chap stick, so I have no problem with reapplying.
6Jessiebanana I thought I was weird for not wanting long lasting as well!!!!
7When I eat, I want to TAKE my lipstick off. I dont want it tolast through. And, I find the long lasting ones dry.
I like to take off and re-appy my lipstick multiple multiple times throughout the day
That's an amazing costume.
As for the comment that Molly Ringwald is "just plain ugly" ... Women get enough body-snarking as it is. Why pick on a perfectly cute Ringwald whose character in Pretty in Pink represented outcasts for a generation?
8i don't like long lasting either. it's very drying on my lips. i rather have one thats more moisturizing so i can just reapply.
9Cute costume sugar. I was SUPPOSED to be cleopatra for halloween, but all those plans fell through too, so I guess we at least have our costumes for next year all ready right?
10That shade reminds me a lot of MAC's "O" lipstick, which is quite possibly my favorite lipstick shade ever.
And what a great costume idea...Pretty in Pink is one of my all-time favorite movies.
11i agree, i love those lipsticks, i bought 3 for my grandma who id always see put chapstick on, then her [very unflattering color btw] lipstick.... so since the color was so hideous i wanted to buy her some new lipstick anywho, but i wanted to find her a 2 in 1 lipcolor that also moisturizes and when i tried this on it was perfect, very moisterizing. not sticky though. and she loved it.
12I love NYC!
Besides not lasting very long they are fantaastic. Sheer Red is my HG
lipstick.
13Man, James Spader can play a royal Buttnugget with the best of them!
I prefer short-term lip color too, the long-lasting stuff just leaves me super-chapped.
14Too funny... I just went to CVS today and I got a NYC lipstick in garnet and an eye shadow roll on. I love buying cheap drugstore cosmetics as a pick me up to a bad day/week. They always make me feel better.
