Don't call it a comeback — waves have been here for years, but this time around in a more individualized way. Rihanna opts for a bouffant 'do paired with sultry cool-toned makeup. Madonna and Lindsay Price go for retro all the way. And Amy Adams fancies it up with a sophisticated clip. I'm liking this old school tribute to the classic 1920s style that features sleek and sexy rolling waves. However it's worn, the look is very structured, shiny, and elegant.
For an easy way to duplicate this style, work in Kiehl's Clean-Hold Styling Gel ($15) when hair is about 80 percent dry. This will give you both hold and shine. Finish blow-drying, then use Conair's Triple Barrel Waver ($17.99) for that delicately curled effect. Set with a high shine, flexible hold spray, such as Kiehl's Weather-Proof, Shine-Enhancing Non-Aerosol Spray ($15.50). Holiday parties, here you come.

I have the hardest time making my fine hair STAY wavy!
I especially love Amy Adam's look.
I usually love Rihanna's looks but I don't like that hairstyle.
I like Amy's and Lindsay's the best
Does the triple barrel waver actually work? Has anyone had good luck with it?
I LOVE THIS
so great for the holidays too..
I love Lindsay and Madonna's hair like this!
I actually have recently considered chopping off some inches from my hair and styling it like something out of the 20s or 30s but it would be more time than I feel like spending on my hair.
I have the Conair triple barrel waver and it did not work for me at all. My hair is naturally curly and I wanted to create waves like this
A large barelled curling iron seems to work better for me.
I really love the way waves look (although I like them looser, less structured and more bohemian), but I cannot get my hair (fine, long, and straight) to hold anything resembling a style. It just does. not. work. *le sigh*
I feel your pain jenzene, I too have fine hair that has trouble holding a curl. Bella Sugar, have you or would you ever consider doing a tutorial on how to a achieve this look with problem hair?
Love this wavy look.
love it
Did Madonna just get out of her time machine? She looks amazing.
naaaa!
history repeats itself...in the fashion world
I have this conair thing and it does not work! My hair is very straight, and it made it look crimped. I've tried it multiple times, but they should have made the wave plates on it wider or farther apart. I love this look, but I can't figure out how to do it. It's hard enough getting my super straight hair to do anything other than be straight.
This is from an era I love love love!
yeah, I can't stand Madonna, but she looks A-MA-ZING! wow, I love her hair here. I love how Rihanna made it her own, too - I mean, it's not my taste, but that is so Rihanna. all the rest are fabulous, too, how can you not love 40's-style waves?! along with 40's-style clothing and makeup?! uggh, I was born 50 years too late...
I really like the old Hollywood-esque waves. They are the epitome of class and sophistication (if there is one for hairstyles). Plus these lovely ladies totally pull them off with ease.
Check out my profile pic... I'm all about the waves, haha! :]
Wow. I don't think Madonna has look that nice in a while.
Rihanna's hairstyle here reminds me of Woody the Woodpecker. LOL
I think Madonna looks better this way than she has in years! Reminds me of 1980!
