Red lipstick. It's the embodiment of glamour. And a true red lipstick looks great on just about everyone since it's the perfect neutral balance. Whether you've got a sexy soiree to attend or you're just looking to add some flair to your existing makeup palette, I've got some more red lipstick tips along with some true red shade selections below:
- Formulation — Do you want a matte, dense finish or are you looking to do a sheer wash of color? Matte shades are trendy right now, but they can also make you look, uh, "mature." Glossy shades will give an illusion of larger lips.
- Go glossy — Feeling shy about going full on bold red? You can always try a red gloss to tone it down. Try Make Up For Ever Super Lip Gloss in True Red ($16).
- Small lips — Try lighter shades of red if your lips are thin. Darker shades will only make them look tinier.
- Mix things up — If you aren't loving the shade you selected, layer a gloss or another lipstick over it to correct. In a dazzle-y mood? Add an unexpected gold-flecked clear gloss to a shade that seems too cool or a platinum-flecked clear gloss over a shade that seems too warm.

I would loove to be able to wear a red lipstick with confidence, but with my fair skin it just doesn't look as good as I would hope.
1I'm really fair too, but I did end up finding reds that don't make me look clownish (which is the problem I had trying to find a good one for me). And actually I don't agree with the small lips tip. I've seen women with small lips who at least I think look great with a darker red.

4Clinique Angel Red is my red of choice...I'm not a big red-lips fan, but if I do decide to go red, this shade is a perfect choice for my fair skin. I just dab it on like a stain and it looks really pretty.
5I just bought a limited edition 'Target Red' by L'Oreal, made exclusively for Target. It's a really red shade, just how I like my red lipsticks.
6Hey Bella, and advice on how to stop your red lipstick from 'bleeding'? I line my lips with the matching liner, but it still feathers. I only seem to have this problem when I wear red lipstick

10Black Velveteen, have you tried putting foundation on your lips before applying the lipstick and lip liner? I haven't tried it but I've read about it a few times, it apparently really helps.
