I've learned the hard way that non-acetone removers don't work as well on natural nails, but what's the deal with acetone anyway?
Acetone is a colorless, highly flammable liquid used as a solvent – and commonly found in nail polish removers. These products effectively eliminate stubborn nail polish, but can dry out your nails in the process. Acetone strips natural oils, which can damage already brittle nails, but helps the base coat adhere better. That's why you'll often see your manicurist swab this on your fingers before putting it on. If you have fake nails, it's generally recommended that you use non-acetone products to take off the polish without softening or breaking down the acrylic. Instead, these use another milder solvent, usually Ethyl acetate, because powerful acetone will remove the actual tips as well as the color.

Thanks - I've always wondered what the difference was!
1I always use CVS Brand 100% Acetone. It works wonders, comes in a huge bottle, and is cheap.
2I LIVE BY CVS ACETONE, loopymoi! Seriously, why waste your time with wimpy non-acetone removers. Acetone works way better, and a little goes a long way.
3It's totally true! I have natural nails and the brands without acetone in them don't work. I have to scrub or soak my hands in the nail polish remover. There are some products like Cutex, that have come out with nourishing nail polish removers. It doesn't damage your nails and it contains protein enriched acetone that protects nails. It's my favorite brand.
4i love acetone remover. its like magic
