Whoa, who knew that this year's Best Shampoo of 2008 would only win by a hair? Oh dear. Seeing that Frédéric Fekkai was just four votes under, we'll give the brand an honorable mention. And as for the official winner? Let's give Pantene some kudos for delivering good-smelling, feel-nice products that don't break the bank.
What's my favorite? I'm with you on the drugstore shampoo. My pick is Cristophe Beverly Hills, a natural, fragrance-free line, available at CVS, that makes my hair — and the beau's — feel fantastic. Now that you know this year's top shampoos, check out the rest of our Best of 2008 polls and outcomes now.

"would only win by a hair" So perfect!
Hahahaha cute...
That's so weird, I bought the Christophe for colored hair and it made my hair feel like straw.
If you have colored hair, DO NOT BUY PANTENE!! It reacts with hair color. The woman who does my hair said that highlights and color react to Pantene and it can seriously fry your hair.
I agree blondie. Pantene ruined my highlights a few years ago when I tried it.
Blondie, is she also looping in relaxer or is she specifically referring to color? Right now I'm using Tresemme for dry and damaged hair with my Ojon conditioner. It works well, but I used to be very loyal to Pantene and was considering switching back.
I like the Cristophe from CVS in the pink bottles, not sure which formulation it is
I don't know why but I am always freaked out to buy drug store branded hair products. I spend so much money on cut and color, I am afraid a bad product will ruin it I guess. I am in love with everything from the line Eufora that my salon carries. It is a totally vegan line. My hair has never been better.
Pantene is bad for you! Look it up on skindeep...
I don't mind Pantene styling products, but I do NOT care for their shampoo. Their formulas are either too drying or too heavy for my hair.
I try to only use sodium laurel sulfate free shampoo. SLS is very bad for your hair and strips it of it's natural oils. I like Burt's Bees shampoos and conditioners from the drugstore, but I normally splurge on a solid shampoo bar from Lush. It's natural and also has no packaging to clog up landfills.
Pantene definitely didn't get my vote....
Why did Pantene win when I've heard so many negative comments about it? I posted a while back that my stylist told me to swear off Pantene due to it's high wax content. I don't think she would lie, so I guess I'll just stick to Suave.
Pantene sucks. Everyone who voted for it just doesn't know any better.
I sometimes use Pantene. Somehow when it comes to hair, I don't spend so much money and also never get highlights. I always look horrible with highlights. Whichever shampoo I use, my hair is always quite strong, thick, and shiny.
I tried Pantene a few years ago and found out that I hated it. It was heavy and left a terrible build up on my hair. Since then I have heard from numerous people that they do not like it either. I don't know why it got such a high vote.
Pantene is AWFUL for you and your hair.
it is a myth (that has been debunked multiple times) that pantene is "bad" for your hair. it actually is one of the best formulated shampoos around and it consistently wins awards.
Pantene always makes my hair look great the first 2 times i use it then it's all buildup and I have to use a clarifying shampoo. I'd rather not do that constantly so I'll stick to my color vive shampoo and the hydra vive stuff with royal jelly conditioner is SO awesome!
I love Pantene, and I did vote for it. It's one of the best shampoos for your hair, contrary to popular belief and myth. No, it does not make your hair fall out. No, it does not coat your hair with wax. They're all myths. Check the Beauty Brains.
Personally I do not care for Pantene. It gives me horrible dandruff every time I use it. I want it to work for me, but it never ever does.
Don't forgot that this company still does Animal Testing!

pantene - conditioner specifically - uses waxes to make your hair look shiny and feel slippery but it is NOT healthy. i can always feel when i'm shampooing people if they use this or dove. i can literally feel the wax. when you go back to a good quality shampoo/conditioner a lot of people think its not working or its worse. that's only because you are actually feeling the hair that you've had all along, just no build up. seriously, check out the ingredients, google them. i did it a few years ago and i'm pretty sure its the "pro-vitamins" - they can't be processed by your hair (cause hair is dead!) so they just create a waxy film. i've totally lost mondo respect for stacey london for being on pantene commercials
I used to use Pantene and had to stop due to the excessive hair loss. Whilst Pantene made my hair beautifully soft and is the only hair product that defrizzes my naturally curly hair, its all cosmetic. Pantene is like wearing heavy make up on your face - it makes you look great and masks imperfections but in actual fact is clogging your pores and damaging your skin. Its a shame because pantene does what it says on the bottle, but at the expense of damaging your hair.
