When visiting a pal's house recently, I noticed a bottle of olive oil in his bathroom (not while snooping, I swear). Even though I know of many uses for this product, I was curious why he had it. Turns out he applies this before shaving instead of traditional creams since he has sensitive skin (a tip he picked up from his Grammy).
That got me thinking of more beauty uses for olive oil:
- Deep conditioning treatment: Get out of the shower and apply oil on shampooed, towel dried hair. Put it up in a plastic cap and blast it for about 10 minutes with a hair dryer. Let sit for 10 more minutes and rinse out.
- Oil base for homemade scrubs: If you're whipping up a batch of one of my fave DIY spa treatments, olive oil's a great addition. If you're short on time, simply rub on your skin before scrubbing with coarse sugar or salt.
- Moisturizing cuticles: Mix a touch of this oil and water in a small dish and soak your hands in it for about five minutes. Then warm a bit of olive oil and rub it into your cuticles before pushing the skin back with your file.
- Removing stubborn makeup: Being very careful to avoid eyes, you can still dab a bit of olive oil on a cotton swab and use it to remove waterproof makeup.

As a base before a sugar scrub is a great idea. I usually just use sugar directly on my face, ow.
1Try grapeseed oil instead. It has more healing properties and completely absorbs into your skin. For real! No slimy sticky feeling. My mom,who is a major hippie(think Jane Fonda),introduced me to this. From your hair, to around your eyes, stretch marks, lips, whole dang body. Plus it has a sweeter more mild smell. I wouldn't bother with o.o unless I didn't have lotion and was in dire need.(Not that it doesn't work for others, just not for me)
2I count FOUR
3I definitely use olive oil as a deep conditioner for my curly hair! I heard that Julia Roberts does this, too.
4you forgot to count the shaving cream substitute, michlny
5my bad
didn't read it....
6well I don´t think using olive oil as a consitioner for hair is a good idea.I mean I am Spanish and olive oil is for cook, ok I know its uses and I know it is great, but for hair??doesnt it mess your hair??
7it can be used to soothe your legs after you've shaven. (only put a little bit on!)
8I use olive oil for my daughter's skin. She has eczema and sometimes her skin really breaks out I use this instead of her usual cream, which really burns, so she loves the olive oil. And I can use less of her really expensive cream that I get from the Dr's. I read somewhere that it has anti-inflammatory properties in it. Also yes it does great for makeup removal, my daughter smeared that 8hr lipstick all over her face on Christmas Eve, this is all I had to remove it before church!!
9Oh shoot, bluepuppy, I bet THAT was a heart attack! Glad you were able to get it off in time for church!
I want to try making some DIY salt scrub...so tired of spending beaucoup bucks on scrubs that give me headaches (I just can't hack strongly scented bath stuff). I'll have to remember that olive oil is a good base!
10Objectively, I know this is a great money-saving thing, and that my MAC Cleanse-Off Oil really isn't all that different, but I dunno... olive oil goes with bread. It's hard to think of using it as a beauty product without being a bit icked out.
11I love using olive oil for beauty! It works really well and is a lot less expensive than some beauty products out there. I use it on my face before my moisturizer morning and night because I have very dry skin, and mixed with brown sugar as a body scrub. My skin always feels so much better afterward!
12i use it on the ends of my hair to condition.
13You can also use it to soften dry feet.
14rub it on your feet and put your feet in plastic bags(plastic wrap, sandwich bags, etc.) and leave it on while you sleep. you can even put a little extra in the bags. your feet will be really soft!
I always use olive oil mixed with other treatments for my hair to maintain moisture.
15Personally, I'd rather use olive oil than expensive beauty products that have 13 syllable ingredients w/ x's and z's in them. I like to be able to pronounce what I'm putting on my body. Different strokes for different folks!
16I'm sitting here with olive oil in my hair riiiiiiight now ... let you know how it goes.
17Oh yes, I swear by olive oil myself- I read that Cleopatra used it for her skin and hair and it's been popular ever since. Also really useful are whole milk, honey and oatmeal, kosher salt and red berries. I use olive oil every single day, to rub into my cuticles(I rub some in and then apply a dallop of my favorite scented hand cream over that), and in my bath(a few drops will do ya- no streaming product to add to the water needed here!)and I also use it for my hair, the ends only- I rub it into the ends and keep it in a small corked, glass jar in my shower. I have never tried it as a prior to shaving treatment, but I'll bet my hubby could benefit from that(he has sensitive skin, and olive oil is not a chemical-laden gilette treatment) and as could I; I would use it to treat the area down there prior to shaving because I cannot stand those little red razor bumps, and why the hay is it that 'sometimes' you get them, and 'sometimes' you don't, without ever changing anything about how your shaving!? Idk, but that's really annoying!lol. I use the whole milk on a disposible cotton pad to treat my skin while I bathe; I letit sink in while I'm soaking in the tub, then rinse it off after 10-15 minutes or so, and smooth on honey, let that stay on 5 or 10, and rinse. Makes my skin mucho happy-yo
LOL
I also pur some milk in the bath sometimes, if my skin is feeling dry. If I do that, then I also rub olive oil into my legs and arms, stomach and cheeks(not on my
face, hah) and then get in the tub and soak in the milky water. I rinse off with fresh cool water at the end and smooth on some body butter and life is all good
I will use the oatmeal with a bit of milk and a few tbsp. honey -just enough to make a thick
paste-and spread that on my face for a mask treatment( I leave on for 10), whenever my skin is dry or splotchy I use this mask. I use the sea saltto make a scrub, using olive oil as the base,
just as the poster said... I also have used table salt and honey as a face scrub and that worked great, but I once got it in my eye and that SUCKED- now I am afraid and have gone back to
St.Ives apricot scrub lol
18I forgot to specify, I rub the olive oil into the ends of my hair before I shampoo, rub it in and put hair up in a clip, then wrap in a small towel and put on shower cap over that, holds in heat- let sink in 10-15- then shampoo, once or twice, concentrating on ends.
And I forgot to say that red berries crushed up with a base of beer or red soda mixed in with them makes a great hair lowligter; I do this sometimes (I will use a ziplox baggie and crush the berries with the bottom of a cup, pour in a half-cup of liquid, and pur over hair while bent over the tub, roll the wetted hair and clip it up with a clip, wrap it up quick in a plastic shower cap and then wrap an old towel around my neck, let that sit while I soak, 20 minutes or so, then I rinse well and use a gentle shampoo like johnsons baby shampoo. I realize that not all of you ladies will have enough spare time to do this- I do get to do it because my husband is so nice about keeping the kids occupied for an hour while I spend that whole block of time soaking and reading away- he rocks!- but time spent in a chair at a spa costs more, and is still time, for similar results, so why not try it at home? for a mani-pedi, I soak my toe nails and fingertip nails at the same time, tips in a warm bowl of olive oil and toes in 2 warm bowls of olive oil, after 5 minutes I rub 'em off with an old towel and push back my cuticles-they are nice and soft by now- then I scrub in sea salt and olive oil and honey scrub(honey just for the smell, mostly, can use any essential oil instead- I love grapfruit oil!-) and then rinse with the handheld showerhead in the tub, rub in body butter and hand cream, put a bit of whitening toothpaste on the nail brush and scrub nail beds-feet and hands- rinse, use a cotton pad to wipe nails dry, buff and shine and apply white pencil under tips(both), clean with cotton pad and buff again, slick on a thin coat of pale pink, let that dry, slick on another, let that dry and spray with setting spray to speed-dry, propping feet and hands in front of a big fan while they set, and afterwards I spray some perfume on my wrists and ankles and enjoy my night with the hubby
