As I was at a check-in kiosk over the holidays, I noticed several signs for showering facilities right at SFO. Granted, it's my hometown, so I'd have no reason to use it even if my flight was delayed, but I wondered if all the people camping out past security knew about this offering.
With standard ($11 for 20 minutes plus soap and towel) and deluxe ($15 for 30 minutes with full sets of toiletries and towel) showers, this didn't seem like a bad idea if someone wasn't down to spring for a hotel room for the night. Have you ever showered or used spa/hair salon facilities while waiting for takeoff?

I'd go to a hotel thanks.
1I probably should have selected other because I didn't know that these existed. I feel like it's a great way to get your purse stolen even if your other bags are checked. I'm also not a big fan of showering and then putting on dirty clothes.
2I have used the shower facilities in the Singapore airport and it mad a HUGE difference in how I felt. When I got there I had been traveling for 20+ hours and felt horrible. A shower helped the remaining 6 hours of travel go so much more pleasantly.
On shorter trips (12-14 hours) I always pack dry shampoo, baby wipes, face wash, and deodorant so that I can freshen up part way through the flight. It just makes the longer trips more bearable.
3Other- Thai airways (which rocks) provides showers in their VP lounge. Lucky me, I got to be a VP (hehe) and so I got to take as long of shower as I wanted without paying.
4this is kinda random to me but then again i've never been stuck for hours on end so i wouldn't know....i would think if it was long enough that my hair got dirty, i'd be wanting a hotel....and if it wasn't long enough that my hair got dirty then freshening up in a regular bathroom would be just fun...it's not like i start to stink if i don't shower after 2 days...
5I'm definitely going to head to a hotel if I'm in that situation. I didn't even realize that airports have showers, but I can see where that makes a lot of sense.
6i don't think that i'd feel comfortable showering at an airport to be honest. if you think about it, if you're only stuck over night - or just a few hours, then i don't think that there's a real need to shower right? i usually just wash my face to freshen up a bit
7Baby wipes and deoderant usually take care of the job for me. If my hair is looking greasy, I usually just braid it or put a hat on. After being in layover for gross amounts of time because of the military I'm used to the baby-wipe shower.
8I've never used airport showers, but my life is attached to baby wipes. I read the tip on Lilsugar to pack a few in a sandwich bag in my purse, and after trying that at a festival last summer, I always have some in my bag.
9advah - i also use them at festivals/camping
but my tip, for women, not children, is to use the St. Ives or Garnier or pharmacy brand ones...they are designed to clean off your makeup, cleanse your face, and they also smell good and do the trick like baby wipes do for personal cleansing and spills and whatnot...but they're good (or at least somewhat safe) for your skin

11Freshen up in the bathroom as much as possible, if I was stuck for an extreme amount of time - over 2 days - then I would get a hotel room and shower. I am a bit of a germ phobe and know how gross some ppl can be so I would never use a public shower - just not my style.
12I agree with towelettes and dry shampoo. But I'm used to camping.
13public showers freak me out... I'd just put on more deodorant and a spritz of perfume and brush my teeth in the regular bathroom.
14The one time I've been stuck overnight was in Reykjavik, Iceland, where we checked into a hotel. But normally the only place I end up hanging around for long periods of time is Heathrow, which is a bloody nightmare - so I just freshen up in the restrooms and do the best I can.
15If it was only for a day, I'd just make do with washing up in the bathroom and maybe using some dry shampoo if my hair looked greasy. But if it was longer than a day, I would probably try to stay at a hotel or something...
16If it's already gonna be $15 for the shower, why not pony up another $30 and have a comfortable night in a hotel?
17If you're ever stuck, pray it's at the Singapore airport. Best airport on earth.
Was stuck at Heathrow for a night (and had a 12 hour flight after that). Survived with no shower and just freshening up

I'd probably freshen up in the airport bathroom with baby wipes. Long showers can wait for a hotel room!
21Not a bad idea but I probably wouldn't use one. Depending on how long my delay was, I'd probably just freshen up in the bathroom or get a hotel room.
