Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch? OK, maybe there isn't, but you can score a beauty item for nothing. Due to a class-action lawsuit, cosmetics companies, and the stores that sell its items are giving away full-sized products beginning on Jan. 20. We're talking goods such as Chanel Coco Mademoiselle body lotion, Clarins Energizing Morning Cream, Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, and Lancôme Courbe Virtuose mascara.
To get your freebie, you have to be part of the class affected by the lawsuit; if you've bought from certain brands between 1994 and 2003, you're in. Then go to participating stores and pick up one item. (That's one item per person, not one item per brand!) Check out the settlement website for more details, and be sure to go early — the supplies are limited, and no rainchecks will be issued.

I have a question, I receive a postcard stating the same as the website and was wondering what do you do. Do you just walk up to the counters and ask for products?
1I got the same thing in the mail. I think it's only for people who have that. They won't let just anyone walk up and ask for it. The website has the stores listed. My only local store is Macy's and I've already circled my choices. If I get there and they are just handing it out to anyone, I will be pissed off. I would print out the list on the site and take it with you.
2I'm assuming every store will do things differently, but I assume you'd do that — or maybe there will be a separate area for pickup.
3Thanks so much ladies, I was wondering. I have 5 stores near my job. I am in heaven.
4I'm psyched about this! I am a part of this class-action lawsuit, got my card in the mail the other day telling me to go pick up a free item!
5Keep in mind, ladies that you are entitled to ONE item. It should state that on your postcard. Coming from someone who works at a make-up counter, dont be greedy. Please, dont be greedy.
6Do you really need the post card? I found out about it after they stopped taking addresses, but the site didn't mention NEEDING the postcard to get the stuff...
7Huh? I've never heard of this.
8What was the lawsuit about?
I haven't rcv'd anything in the mail yet although I know I bought Chanel products in college.
Heads up ladies the free Vera Wang "Princess" is horrendous!
9yeah that sucks. i haven't received anything either!
10I don't think you need a postcard.
11I don't have any proof that I have bought those items, but I have in that time frame. I didn't know they were taking address or anything, this is the first I have heard about it. So, what do you do? Just go up to the counter and mention the lawsuit?
12Phone your local store or try the live chat - I did the live chat with Nordstrom Beauty and the asst. said that my local Nordstrom would be participating inthe giveaway - arrive early, no postcard needed, there will be one spot to pick up the products (to avoid going to every counter and getting more than one product - I think).
13I called a store listed (Macy's) and they said they were taking a conference meeting about it today. She also said it was only for people who have the card...otherwise they would have no idea who gets what. It states good for only one item. I'm not thrilled over the products they chose, but free is free.
14I called Macy's today and and they told me I could only recieve an item if I get a postcard in the mail!!!!!
15I called Macy's today and and they told me I could only recieve an item if I get a postcard in the mail!!!!!
16this is my first time hearing about it too, i wish i would have known earlier because i bought products during that time frame.
17I did some research. Apparently the defendants were found guilty of PRICE FIXING.
18So we are too late? This is awfully shady to keep it so hush hush when there are millions and millions of us affected by this. Did someone say Nordstrom's didn't need the postcard?
19No card or anything is needed. I went in, got in line, got my free gift. You must sign that you purchased beauty products from one of those companies during the given dates. And who hasn't?
20Actually, the verdict of price fixing was reversed and the make up comapnies were found NOT GUILTY but they decided to do the giveaway anyway. I think it's stupid. We had over 200 extra people in the store yesterday and yet no sales. I mean, I need to sell things in order to haev a job and all people cared about was the free MAKEUP.... oh, and it's one item that people are allowed yet here were people bringing in relatives, husbands and boyfriends to get more products. This was a bad idea... it just makes people greedy and makes it stressful for us makeup counter employees to survive.
Dillard's does not require a postcard.
BTW, for those of you who didn't know about it, you can call your local participating store today and see if they still have product.
21I believe the "promotion" goes on until the 27th if there is still product at the store.
22i went to the mall yesterday and the lines were out of the stores in macys and nordstrom! i wonder if you oculd just stand in line and ask for a product.. i didnt buy anything in that time frame so i guess i dont qualify but dang the line was LONG!
23it's finally over! woot woot!
