Poor Robert Pattinson. Not only does he have thousands of Twilight-obsessed teenagers chasing him, he's now going to smell them coming. That's because Hot Topic is stocking Twilight perfume ($48), a lavender-and-freesia scent. I'd tell you what it smells like, but I cannot bring myself to enter Hot Topic without feeling grizzled and going off on a tirade about mall emo.

I'll wager that it's not a sophisticated scent, and I'll also bet that Nina Ricci's lawyers are busy bees. Twilight has blatantly knocked off the fashion house's signature bottle (at right). Then again, I'd argue that the idea of a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire who doesn't feed on people was knocked off from Buffy, so what do I know?

I love this post. I love Nina Ricci perfume. I love Buffy. I hate Hot Topic. And I thought that Twilight was an insipid snoozefest.
1Oh, and I meant Twilight the book. The movie looked even worse.
2It is for teenagers.... it's not an adult level book or movie. They can get around the bottle design also, it has that writing on it. They get down to the technicalities and there's always a way out of a lawsuit. I bet it's selling out too. Maybe it smells better too. I am not a fan, but I was not impressed with the Nina perfume anyway...
3I hope they sue and I hope they win. Blatant rip off for a silly book.
4Twilight perfume? Oh my god, make it stop!!!!
5Twilight perfume? Oh my god, make it stop!!!!
6Yikes... sorry for the double post.
7I saw this at Borders about a week ago. I immediately picked it up because Nina by Nina Ricci is my favorite perfume, and I thought this was the same thing only re-branded for "Twilight". I sprayed it on, and it burned out my nostrils with those most AWFUL smell.
8Ripping off Nina Ricca is laaaame.
9I would assume the apple motif came from one of the Twilight covers and has less to do with "ripping off Nina Ricca".
I mean should Lolita de Lempicka join in too. It's just an apple. Suing IMO seems kind of petty considering the target audience and (assumed) poor quality of product.
10and Buffy stole it from... Dracula?! ha. all ideas come from somewhere.
that said, I'm sure the perfume stinks.
11Blegh... Twilight. But then, I guess that's the kind of thing you have to expect when you're buying perfume at Hot Topic. Blatant rip-offs of much classier stuff.
(Also: YAY Buffy, BOO Bella.)
12Yup, when I saw this at the mall last week, I immediately thought the bottle was a rip-off of other perfumes. I didn't know about this Nina Ricci perfume, but I think there are some other scents that also feature apple-shaped bottles (Lolita Lempicka, DK Be Delicious). Lawsuit waiting to happen, LOL! Although Jessiebanana is right, the apple motif definitely comes from the cover of the book, but they should have tried harder to not make the bottle look like a carbon copy of Nina Ricci's.
13the bottle feeds off of the random apple on the cover of the first book...which by the way has NO significance in the story...
ugh this Twilight frenzy is out of control...
14I feel your pain on Hot Topic, Bella. Weird that there's an entire store, or "establishment" if you will, for "anti-establishment" clothing.
15Love Twilight, but they totally ripped off Nina
16o god does a movie/ book franchise really need a perfume? and they really did rip off nina
17Its not so much that fact that they used an apple shape for the bottle but even that leaves and the knob on the top are exactly the same. If you are going to rip someone off on design at least change it up a bit
Hot Topic is horrible. I remember going into one 7 years ago and thinking how gross and generic everything was
18Ok, People need to stop bashing Twilight... I mean come on!! Do you people have anything else to talk about? If you don't like the perfume, ok, but do you really have to go around saying how much you hate Twilight? I am personally a very big fan of Twilight, so I don't like it when people are talking about it badly. I think it is an amazing book and Stephenie Meyer is an amazing writer, and I don't see the point in bashing it... I'm sure the people who don't like it are way, way, way, way outnumberd by the people that actually love it... And I am a person that loves it so.....
19Oh, and what if they asked her if they could use her design? Do you have anything awful to say about that?
20Bella, I like the books too ... they are my guilty pleasure and I call them my 'teenage vampire smut'
I highly doubt that they asked Nina if they could borrow that design.
21Gah I'm happy I'm not a patent attorney.
Natty Boh and Pringles have been fighting for years
Sorry, but I'd rather buy Hot Topic's Edward Cullen Body Shimmer. I want to dazzle my professors to give me A's.
It wouldn't surprise me if Hot Topic nicked the design. They have some of the most unoriginal, overpriced stuff I've ever seen.
22ugh Twilight as if!
23i love the nina ricci perfume, this is not ok!
I will walk to the other side of the mall just to avoid seeing this store. Hot Topic makes me feel dirty.Gag me.
24I read about this the other day, this is so pathetic...
25What's the old saying? "A fool and his money are soon parted." Fools bought millions of copies of the (poorly edited, dull, overhyped) books, and they'll buy millions of bottles of perfume. Well, maybe thousands.
26I'd be super angry if I worked for Nina Ricci right now.
27They couldn't have made an apple bottle that didn't look just like the Nina Ricci one?
28wow twilight still amazes me. perfume? really? i feel like twilight's all i've heard about for a looong time
29wow twilight still amazes me. perfume? really? i feel like twilight's all i've heard about for a looong time
30OMFG I'm so sick of twilight, I used to like the books but now it's all gone too comercial.
31Personally I love twilight and I think the author I a great author, but im not so sure about the perfume and Hot Topic.
32Some people say they hate the book when they haven’t even read it.
When you think about Twilight's target demographic, it's no wonder that all their merchandise scream tackiness.
My friend is in love with the books and that Edward character. I'm so embarrassed for her. She's 23, for God's sake.
33You are quite late, Bellasugar... I saw they launched the parfum like last week or 2 and the second that I saw it, I knew I've already saw something very similar to it. xD
34Hot topic need to stop already with this twilight marketing!!!
35Have you seen the twilight band aids???
oh geez Twilight has gotten out of control.
36hahahaha there are Twilight band aids? Them Twilight kids are going to be biting each other like vampires then putting on the Twilight band aid while smelling like Hot Topic's Twilight perfume and them playing with the Twilight dolls....it never ends!!!
cupcakers!!!
37i LOVE the twilight books! love love love them. but the sparkles and perfume and replica jewelry are a little much even for a fan like me. and ripping off an icon like nina ricci is ridiculous. plus the actual fragrance is gag inducing.
38What a bunch of haters. I happen to love Nina Ricci perfume so I am sad to see that there is a cheap noc off even if it is for a book I love. I agree their marketing department has gotten a little out of hand but don't judge the book off that or the fans. It's an amazing series and you should read it and then pass judgment.
39i had this perfume last year, its soooo dreamy as all the rest Nina Ricci perfums(Premier jour,mmm..)
40wow..anyone would know they stole the bottle design. the words are tacky, and i heard that it stinks.
41The words on the bottle (the Twilight one) "The forbidden fruit taste the sweetest" . Sounds like something child molesters would say.
42now we live on a freaking twilight zone... im sick of it!!!!
and Nina is the best!!!!

Article:
"We’d like to say we didn’t see this coming, that we were completely oblivious and had no idea, but that would be telling a big, fat fib. Ever since US store Hot Topic unveiled their Twilight fragrance there were quiet grumbles about its resemblance with Nina Ricci’s perfume ‘Nina’. Both came in apple-shaped bottles that are red-coloured and capped with a silver leaf top. Pure coincidence or something a little more underhand? Well it doesn’t matter either way to Puig, the company behind the Nina Ricci brand as they have announced they are taking legal action against the makers of the Twilight scent.
So it’s bad news for lovers of the Twilight perfume and those responsible for making it as they could be made to stop production if the Puig legal team get their way. And it’s an understandable gripe from the Nina Ricci team, the design being based on their classic Fille d’Eve bottle introduced by the Italian fashion pioneer herself in 1952. Added to that virtually everyone that reported on the launch of the Twilight perfume immediately noticed the resemblance it bore to its high fashion counterpart and speculated on it, us included.
But surely this could all have been avoided. The perfumes themselves do not smell alike, the Twilight one whiffs of lavender and freesia, while the ‘Nina’ one is described as possessing topnotes of Calabrian lemon and Caipirinha lime, midnotes including peony petals, moonflower and vanilla-infused red toffee apple and a base of applewood and white cedar. A change of design wouldn’t seem too difficult as there are plenty of Twilight themes that could be explored without stepping on the toes of an already established scent, and it could even be a great promotional stunt to have Twilight fans submit their own ideas for replacements. Just a suggestion…
If you love the perfume or were saving your pennies to buy it soon, maybe you should grab it now while you still can"
HAHAHA!!!!
43Unfortunately, I've never smelled Nina Ricci's (spelling?) perfume. I did, however, go into hot topic and smelled the twilight perfume and it was god-awful. It was the icky-est scent ever
