I've been buying from E.L.F here and there over the past 3 yrs. Their lip glosses aren't the best quality but their shadows are great and better yet trying anything out and having it stink isn't a deal breaker-everything is SUPER cheap!!

I tried ELF for the first time last week and I love it. Can't beat the price!

They have it at Big Lots stores - so try it if you can!

I love Caringconsumer.com. It's run by PETA and includes a complete list of animal-friendly cosmetic companies. I cannot stress enough the importance of buying non-animal tested products. There are too many awesome ethical companies to be paying Cover Girl to squirt chemicals into bunny eyes.

OMG, I absolutely loathe this brand! I think it is the cheapest, crappiest quality makeup I have ever tried. Sorry.

I ordered some of their stuff a while back and found most of it to be pretty lackluster, and some of it downright bad. The one exception was the shimmer facial whip, which I've got in 3 colors and love. The liquid eyeliner (see the pic next to the original post) smells awful and flakes! There have got to be better fuzzy-animal-friendly makeup choices out there.

Bare Escentuals is animal friendly. So is Smashbox. So is MAC. So is Clinique. So is Almay. And a ton of others. I'm sure you can find plenty of products that you'll love, Brave. =)

I'm a MAC loyalist with the exception of a few drug store lipglosses when I managed to be without some... sorry elf.

I'm also a MAC loyalist, and I love Cover Girl eyeshshadows, but I didn't know they tested on animals! What about NARS? Do they test on animals?

Yes, NARS tests on animals.
And please keep in mind, ladies, that these "tests" aren't like, putting nail polish or lipstick on a dog. It includes leaving chemicals on raw, peeled skin, leaving chemicals in the eyes of animals that have either had their eyelids removed or clamped open, and force-feeding chemicals to animals, causing convulsions, death, bleeding, etc. It's painful, wrong, and NOT worth it.

I love elf, and yes, not all of their stuff is good, but it's a great brand to play around with. Not sure if blue eyeshadow is you? try elf first. I personally love their eye lash curler, honey colored lip gloss and bath products. for minimal cash you can go out on a limb and try out a bunch of stuff you might not otherwise. and you can often find coupon codes at retailmenot.com Why not?

There's a lot better-quality beauty stuff out there that's also cruelty-free and doesn't test on animals - I won't be buying elf products just because PETA endorses them.

I am very anti-animal testing for makeup, not because I care about animals (I do, but I think things like medicine and other necessary things need to be tested, and no matter what anyone says, people are worth more than animals), but because makeup is a luxury, not a necessity and we have no right or reason to torture animals just so we can look good. I fully support cruelty-free products, and will check out this product...

I tried the eye makeup remover pads once. I ended up crying my eyeliner off! It STUNG! And that was just the fumes, I never put those pads anywhere near my eye after that.

Lizlee, 98% of products/meds tested safe on animals are later found to be UNSAFE for humans. So 2% of products painfully lab tested go to market, and just think of all THOSE productst that are later recalled due to unforseen complications.

Animal testing is NOT an effective way of proving things safe for human use.

Still cheap quality... can't get past that. There are plenty of cruelty-free brands that actually work well.

foxie: you don't think meds or vaccines should be tested on animals first before being tested on humans?

I think we should focus on alternatives to the highly unreliable and wasteful animal vivisection. It's impractical and cruel. Companies would like you to think that throw-away, cheap animals are a great way to ensure safety, but they aren't.

I've actually looked for this company for their hand sanitizer (because Purell, sadly, tests on animals) but couldn't find it at Cost Cutters (drug store chain in NJ) near me. Didn't think of Walmart.

For a few more cents though, I'd rather get wet n wild...they are cruelty free (according to caringconsumer.com) and I never had a problem with their products.

and (not to go TOO off topic, but someone help) does ANYONE know about Bath & Body Works?? Caringconsumer.com has them on their list as cruelty-free, but their labels say FINAL product not tested on animals. Their site's FAQs say they also don't ask their developers to test. I emailed Peta and asked them, and I just got the "they signed an agreement with us" blah blah blah. So what's the deal?

Devils, BBW is sold in both the US and Britain in the same packaging. Britain's laws require that products use "final product" UNLESS every single ingredient they use has never been tested on animals ever, regardless of when or WHO paid for it. Obviously almost everything in the damn world has been animal tested at some point of time, so BBW has to use "final product" terminology. But the brand is GOOD. Happy shopping!

hey ladies! just so you know, be careful when buying e.l.f.. I work for MAC @ Nordstrom and you don't know how many times our customers have been scammed by this company by purchasing them online. The products are $1, but then there have been instances where they will charge your account multiple times in small increments under various merchant i.d.'s so that you won't notice large amounts being withdrawn from your account. I would hate for this to happen to any of you! Also, if anyone asks, because we get this question alot... E.L.F is in no way affiliated with any department store.
