When it comes to shaving my legs, I tend to switch between high-end shaving potions and drugstore brands, since the latter are just easier to buy on short notice. But while Gillette Satin Care doesn't totally suck, the Walgreen's offering does, and in general, drugstore brands don't give me the silky-smooth shave I want.
The exception, I've just discovered, is Aveeno Positively Smooth Shaving Gel ($3.99). This product gave me one of the closest, most moisturizing shaves I've ever gotten from a drugstore gel, so read more
It would be unfair to compare Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel only to its drugstore cousins, because it also holds its own against the higher-end stuff. You need just a small amount of gel to produce a substantially velvety lather, and its light scent is cleanly pleasant, unlike offerings from Gillette or Skintimate.
But while the shaving process is the same as with other drugstore gels, the results are leaps and bounds away. Afterwards, my legs were as silky as the soft Aveeno lather, and even on my sensitive skin, there wasn't a hint of irritation or stubble. This may be my new standby.

That's all I use anymore. I have really sensitive skin and it doesn't irritate it.
1Good to know - I'll have to try it, as I'm always left unsatisfied by Skintimate and Gillette as well.
2I used to use Gillette, but I bought a can of Barbasol last time because I was in a hurry and it was the first thing I grabbed. I'm hooked.
3I started using this because I had eczema on my legs. I will never go back to anything else. It gives me a really close shave and doesn't irritate my skin.
4I have been using Dove Cream Oil to shave my legs with lately, but I'm not surprised that the Aveeno does such a good job. I use an Aveeno oil after my showers, and it is AMAZING.
5im always lookin for somethin new. gillette shaving gel just doesn't do it for the legs.
6Oooh that is good to know. I have tried Gillette too and its just ok.
7Hmm... good to know since its time to whip out the shorts, skirts and capris!
8I've got to try that stuff! Gillette and Skintimate just don't work for me. I'm so pale that even the slightest bit of stubble shows, and they leave a tone behind. I can't justify the 20 dollar cans from beauty stores though, so I'm glad to hear there's a good compromise! Thanks
9I love Aveeno lotion but I tend to stay away from shaving gels and such for women b/c they always put some sort of Vitamin E or aloe in them and then I get really bad razor burn or irritation on my skin! I use Gillette Sensitive Skin shaving cream...that's right. The kind that men use. I also have to use men's disposable razors b/c women's razors all have that stupid aloe/vitamin E strip. Go away!! Although, it doesn't look like the Aveeno shave gel has any of that in there so maybe it would be okay.
10i use this stuff and i just adore it.
kiss nicks good bye!
11I usually just opt for none or conditioner (yes ladies, it works when shaving your legs) but I'd be willing to give this a try.
12I saw this at CVS yesterday and I almost picked it up. I think I'll give it a try next time.
13thanks for the recommendation! i'm going to buy one next time when I go to the drugstore!
14Oooo, I don't usually use shaving gel because I'm never really sure about the products, but I think I might try this stuff
.
15I bought this a few weeks ago, and this stuff is great!
16great recommendation- my skin is very sensitive and I have just about lost hope for a brand that gives me a great shave. and yes, conditioner also works well in a pinch.
17For years I have used Aveeno shaving lotions exclusively. They are great. They just came out with (well I think its new, could be wrong) a new sensitive skin one with feverfew and I love it. IMO its the best of the line. I recommend it highly over the reviewed one because it is more gentle on my skin, and the other one didn't really make me have to shave any less anyway.
18definitley will try it out!
19Definitely the best.
20SOunds like a good product!
21But ladies, how do you keep your legs smooth the day after shaving? You shave one day & by the next your legs arent smooth anymore and you feel like you have to shave again.
How do you keep them smooth days after shaving? Would Veet or Nair products work?
This is the only brand of shaving cream I use now! I tell everyone I know about it. The scent of all of them is what got me to try it in the first place.
22I didn't know they had this! I LOVE the positively radiant shower gel. I love the smell too!
23I tried it previously to going with a bare leg in a fashion show and it worked well, doing what it promised to do. I'm just not crazy about the scent of it though.
24i absolutely love it!! i tried it last night and it's the best shave i've ever gotten!!!
