In the seemingly endless parade of my junior-high sartorial choices coming back zombie-style, the scrunchie has made its triumphant return. American Apparel is selling scrunchies in bright colors ($3.50), a move that brings back uncomfortable memories of at-home spiral perms and prepubescent awkwardness. Personally, I'm running from this trend faster than you can say "Chris, Mark, Red, Dave, Ro." But something tells me that this could take off with women too young to remember this trend the first time around. Are you going to scrunch again, for the first time, or not at all?

No! No!
Ew.
Oh God NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh please no.
I still have the metallic sky blue scrunchie that matched my high school gymnastics leotard. It is an awful, awful thing that will never be worn again.
Well, lots of women wear hair bands on their wrists all the time for that purpose, so the whole scrunchie come back isn't that much of a stretch... But will I be doing it? HELL NO!
wrong on so many levels...I don't even see people wear these things in the gym anymore...what's next the banana clip? I think I'm going to regret even speaking of the banana clip
o hells no!
I personally will not wear a scrunchie again.
Sadly, my mom never stopped wearing them.
The only ones I use are the clear elastic ones or small black elastic ones
This is terrible news! Even back when they were the big thing I never wore them - I thought they were ugly. I even had a whole box of them that my sister bought me. I couldn't bring myself to put one on my head. Blech!!!
lol I kinda missed them ... specially cuz they didn't break my hair so much as the regular hair ties but still kept them out of my face ... donno
Never ever again. That picture would look so much better if she was wearing a less obvious hair tie or ever better a pretty ribbon...that isn't neon green.
There's no chance I'll wear them again!
I wear them at home all the time still. Not neon ones though... But yeah, they're way better for your hair than a regular hair elastic, and they're not as tight, so they don't give me headaches when I wear my hair up for a long time.
No, no, no, please say it isn't so! I certainly will not be one to pick up that trend!
I won't wear them, that's for sure!
Ick
I wear them all the time; I can't stand my hair in my face! Mine's just black, so it's not garish or obnoxious.
Please no scrunchies! At least not outside the house!
The only time I ever wear one is to keep my hair pulled back while I wash my face at night. Then it goes right back in the drawer!
No, not good.
So happy most said NO!
i love to throw my hair up in a scrunchie.. its always black or dark blue tho.
NO WAY! I think they are hideous.
No, no, no. Please don't bring them back!
Please NOOO , I will never wear it. Yuk. Looks so 80 and not in a good way.
The first thing that came to my mind was that episode from the Sex and the City... nuff said.
I wear scrunchies all the time at home because they're better for my hair, but I wouldn't wear them out in public. It's not the most sophisticated look.
Black and only at home since they aren't as tight.
L M A O @ the ABC VIDEO!!!! omg... thank you for bringing me back bahhhhhahahaha
I used to wear them as a kid. Umm, meaning, I had no say in it!
Sick!!
Ack, never liked those things. They always looked so tacky to me.
Ack, never liked those things. They always looked so tacky to me.
My first reaction was NO NO NO, but if there is away it can be changed for the better. Yes I know that sounds like a strech, but after reading others comments, I think in the right hands it could be art.
I'd like to think we have collectively moved beyond scrunchies as a society. Let's at least improve on the design.
gag me
no no no, absolutely NOT!
I wear them as they dont snag my hair. I live in London.. ive never been accused of having anything less than impeccably dressed.
Im not a 5 year old dim witted moron who gives two cents about sex in the city or people who say 'ohh noooo you cant wear them its not classy'.. go get a life! Whats not classy is being so dim witted that you defining people over hair wear.
I never wore a scrunchie when they were "in style" the first time. They are sooooooooooo tacky. My mom loves them.
Fashionwise, they are TACKY. If you like them, wear them! It doesn't bother ME.
please no. if it does hit i think i'll have to keep a chuckbag with me at all times **gags
please. be. a. joke.
My best friend has never stopped wearing them. I know they are better for your hair than the elastics with the metal or rubber bands, but goodie's ouchless line is pretty gentle too and way more chic. I think tying your hair up all together is kinda breaking, aren't those claw things supposed to be more gentle than anything?
Seka I don't know if you are trying to say that we "americans" just don't wear them because of sex and the city, or because "fashion" says it is out. But nobody is judging here, we are just saying our opinions and they all vary and for different reasons.
I don't see what the big deal is really. They're gentler to your hair than hairbands. It's not better or worse than the massive headbands and headscarves I see people wearing currently. Fashion trends recycle themselves allll the time.
I WAS there the first time around, but i still kind of like scrunchies... I mean, not glaringly, enormous, tacky scrunchies, but I don't see why they can't be cute, just for fun.
Seinfeld epidsode. Please no scrunchies.
The ONLY time I wear them is when my hair is done, and I need to pull it back and I don't want to crimp the do. They don't get worn out of the house...
I wear them all the time, around the house. I have long hair and two small children, and a scrunchie keeps my hair out of my eyes and I can tear it out quickly to get the door or run out for an errand. Long live the scrunchie!
I dunno how young you have to be to not remember scrunchies. I consider myself pretty young at 21, and I'm definitely old enough to remember the horrible scrunchie trend. I had a few pretty ugly ones myself back in the day.
I wear them at home alot and for the gym because they don't damage the hair as much as the other ponytail holders do. But to see it come back as a fashion accessory? No thanks.
Yes alwayswallis, I am 22 and I remember wearing them and also making scrunchies out of leftover material in sewing class when I was in middle school.
