If women want to cut costs by trimming their own bangs, are there any good tips to ensure a good cut?
Women tend to only need one or two bang trims in between their full cuts. Since most salons offer their clients discounted (if not free) bang trims, I generally suggest leaving the cutting to the professionals. However, if you are dead-set on trimming your bangs at home, I recommend starting with dry hair. Separate out the front section of bangs that you want to trim and pull to a point in the center of your face. Twist the gathered hair three or four times. Cut straight across at the desired length. Try trimming on the long side at first to prevent over-trimmed, super-short bangs. The twisting will produce bangs that are slightly longer on the sides than in the middle and also give the ends a wispy look. The twisting also helps to prevent the over-trimmed look.

I often cut my own hair - I have my own tip! You should cut up, not across. This makes it wispy and also avoids any obvious zig-zaggy mistakes!
1Mich I do the same thing. I've never had a problem cutting my own bangs.

3my bangs grow really fast. I cut them a lot more than once or twice in between haircuts. does anyone know if the method he describes here is for blunt bangs? I wonder if it would work for sideswept bangs, which is what I usually have.
4what a crappy advice. i trimmed my bangs every 10 days (now i'm growing them out) cause it went for the till the lashes look and after 10 days it was poking my eyes. my hair grows very fast. and i'd get 3mm off. so that twisting and cutting think is just ridiculuos.
5My sister used to cut her own hair (all over -- far too brave for me!), and she did the twisting thing to get it decent looking even in the back. Obviously a professional cut is best, but thought I'd throw it out there...
6I also cut my bangs with the scissors pointing up.

I had very blunt bangs that I used to trim all the time. Just keep the scissor sharp, go straight across, correct any pieces, and do a little cutting up to finish. Voila.
8This method really worked! I would even say they looked almost as good as when the salon trims them! I couldn't believe it! Plus I didn't make the mess I typically make while trimming my bangs- yay!
9I tried trimming my bangs and had an undesired finished look. I then looked online and came across this article. I twisted the hair three times and trimmed a little and had the look i was after.
