Murad's slogan is "Where skincare meets healthcare," and soon, the dermatological brand may be meeting up with Estee Lauder, too. According to Women's Wear Daily, the Lauder conglomerate may be considering an acquisition of Murad.
Based in Southern California, the brand was founded in 1989 by namesake Dr. Howard Murad. Murad makes some really great products, but what's really interesting is how this potential deal fits into an overall trend.
Large beauty companies — once focused mainly on makeup — are increasingly buying into the fast-growing market for clinical skincare brands. Earlier this year, Procter & Gamble acquired Doctor's Dermatologic Formula, and Estee Lauder already snatched up another derm-developed brand, Rodan + Fields, in 2003. To me, this points to the future of beauty, wherein women are just as concerned about taking care of their skin than they are about enhancing it with makeup. What do you think?

i think as big as we believe murad and say ddf to be, the big companies buying them will put them into a more international spotlight. its a huge benefit to both companies. it gives the make up companies the scientific side they need, and the scientific companies the backing and security of a large makeup company.

2Bella, I think we're already in the future, as far as women caring for their skin. I think most women, particularly those in their 30s+, are much more proactive now than ever before with skincare. I know that even as a 24 year old, I spend alot of time and money on skincare products. But maybe I'm just a product wh*re in general, lol.
3about 2 weeks ago i got the murad Night Reform and every morning I wake up my skin is so soft and wonderful. this was recommended by a friend and i love it so far and will recommend it to anyone who reads this!
4I personally love Murad, but Estee Lauder always causes me to have a bad taste in my mouth...and I don't want to think that it will own something I like so much. Oh well, if it's good for Murad, I think I'll deal with it.
5But it's true.. I wear makeup and recently (a few months ago) I've been paying more attention to my skin and wearing sunscreen religiously and even adopted some night cream and eye treatment...and toner.. and serum..though I'm really lazy on the night time stuff.

6I love Murad products. I use Vitalic series with Pomegranade. I don't want them to change the ingredients. Is it impossible to work alone and be succesful in cosmetic industry? Why don't all the big companies let the little ones live alone? I hated it when Loreal has bought The Body Shop. Loreal makes Animal Testing, but The Body Shop was aganist it.

I use Estee Lauder skin stuff now. I really need to find a better one though. I wonder if when they buy this company if it will be easier to get in my area of the world. I really need something new.
I think this definitely shows that women are more concerned with their skin just as much as make up. It has been drilled into our heads the past few years that skin condition is just as important as make up technique.
9Murad is wonderful, I use that and Bare Essentials make-up and both have transformed my skin. I now feel better about going bare faced when I have to.
10I haven't tried Murad, but Estee Lauder also owns Clinique, for whom I have worked. I strongly believe that Lauder, while enjoying the profit they make from Clinique, has cheapened the formulas over the years and continues to manufacture sub-par quality makeup at "low" prices (at least in the department store world) to draw in a crowd looking for luxury on a dime. I sincerely hope Lauder does not change the formulas of Murad simply to make a buck.
